Is it true that if you are a certified 5th degree black belt and are under the age of 18 you are registered with the police dept. as dangerous?????

I have read that some black belts are required to notify but it may be a myth.

I think if the police were called to a murder scene the conversation would be something like this.

On scene :

Police #1 ... Well his nose is crushed thru to his skull.

Police #2 ... Thats a heel print imprinted in his chest.

Police #1 .... Yeh looks like he was beat and kicked about the head many many times.........hmmmm

Police #2 .... What do you think we got ?

Police #1.... Looks like murder by karate...

Police #2 ...Yeh maybe we should check the black belt list down at the station and get them in for a line up again.

Police #1 ...Isnt that a Louisville slugger emblem imprinted on his forearm ? Could this be a murder by bat ?

Police #2 ... I dont know lets do down to Krispy Kreme and get some doughnuts and coffee.

Police #1.... Well OK did I tell you I got this callous on my toe thats just been killing me.

Save for 1 or 2 styles of karate, it's not a very effective form of 'real' fighting compared to other disciplines. A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is MUCH more dangerous than a normal karate black belt.

I'm serious...............I am concerned about my kid . He is having problems with a kid from his football team rumor has it that the kid is a bully because he can kick some azz for real................All of last week the boys had unsupervised football practices due to the strike that is when the kid started with him. He threw a football at the back of his head and called him a "CRACKER" LOL I told my son he should have picked up that football and made that boy swallow it................Now today I find out he is registered Karate nut!!!!!!!!! What do I tell my son now ?????? I can't tell him to walk away  can I???? Then the kid will never stop!!!!!!!!!!! but I am stumped on this one..................How dangerous can a 17 year old boy be??????? I don't know shit about karate.

Well, he obviously is going to have an advantage against another 17 year old who hasn't taken any type of martial arts or fight training. But he isn't going to have some death lock or kill him with touch of his hand. Best bet would be to try and wrestle him to the ground and take it from there.

How big are your son and the other kid? Karate really isn't a style that is going to be applied in a fight once it gets ugly.

You tell your kid there is a time and place for everything. Now is not the time. Stick to practice and do very best he can. Karate does not necessarily make you better at football. Depending on the postion your boy plays. Maybe he can dish some hurt out during drills. Allways pick the spot and time. If this kids does hurt some one becasue of his talent with karate. Let the school know the lawyers are not far behind. That goes for any kid not just your son. What may happen many will get sick of him and do alittle night time sheet party. With a sheet over your head and a knee in the grion you become more nutrial. But for sure not his time or his place remember that. And make your kid understand.

I dont think I would let my kid go to anymore unsupervised practices. Just work out on his own. There should be parants or some coach at any practice. Thats not safe.

If the kid was really into Karate then he would be respectfull. These are art forms and dicipline is required to be a part of it. They all teach non agression.

I would say what you have on your hands is a common bully. He may have floated the karate rumor around to get a rep. Even a false rep is better than no rep in the hood. Its a means of survival.

My advice would be to steer clear of this guy and dont give him a reason or opportunity. Anyone on a football team can usually depend on a certain team commraderie. That means no beating up your teammates you may need them to cover your ass for you somewhere along the line. Maybe the kid is too dumb to realize that. And if he is then he will probably not make the team anyways and problem over.

Now if the kid is in a upper grade like a senior or something there is a certain amount of jawing your going to have to take from uppper classmen. Thats understandable. But they in no way have the right to harm your kid or put him in any danger.

If they do then you get the school, coachs, and police involved if you have to . This is a crazy world we live in. Its just not worth standing up unless you have to , to protect yourself.

If its possible during practice or a game, tell your son to make a block for the guy or back him up or help him in some way on the field. That will also solve any more trouble.

it is so hard being a parent in todays society :( I don't know about anyone else but its scary ....................kids don't fight like they used to, even I am thinking of supplying my son with a baseball bat ...................:(

The problem is that they are back in school ,strike ended yesterday. My kid goes to school in center city. The field we practice on is 17 blocks from school, the guys walk there after school in between that time they have been known to fight in love park . The last thing I want to hear is that my kid got his azz kicked ....I THINK I WOULD KILL SOME ONE!!!!!!

you can't be a rat ,,,,,,,so my kid "HAS" to stand up for himself.....................

my kid is a sophmore he is a senior I was thinking maybe since my kid is good on the field and maybe stepping into some one elses position this could be the problem....................we all know that the upper classmen shovel out some sh*t especially the football players................I was thinking maybe since most sophmores don't get to play varsity that its a problem for my kid...............but this kid is offense my son plays D

 I think that some one needs to stand up to this kid ......I just really hate that it might have to be my son!!!!

If your son brings a bat or in any way insinuated to anyone that he is carrying it for protection. And word gets out. Thats when it could escalate. Knives and guns are brought in to protect against baseball bats. Then they may go looking for the guy with the bat.

The jealousy thing is definately possible. All the players will know about it and the older ones will not show any respect. You have the right to help him out. Take him off the varsity and make up some reason to cover it. He probably is not going to play much anyways until next year. Is it worth it for the hassle ? If you take him off and tell the coachs he is being harrassed then its worse like you said. dont be a rat. Just find a reason and let him play JV only.

It depends alot on if these guys are hoodlum thugs. If they are from the projects you dont want to really get involved at all. If they are upper middle class kids then its not as bad but you never know who the kid hangs with.

I would make sure I walk to the field with friends that will back me up if there were trouble. Being alone is asking for trouble.

Some things in life we just can't protect them from. We have to just trust and pray we have given them the insights to handle themselves and only fight to defend yourself. You can walk away from words. If someone makes a hit on you , thats when you just go postal on them and try to beat them down. Hopefully it dont come to that.

If someone is trained in any discipline they should easily be able to take someone who isnt trained. Agree that karate is kind of bs as an art and in a real fight you never kick above the knee anyway(too easy for someone to grab your leg and pull him down). Best bet against a martial arts guy is to take him to the ground immediately and stay on the ground wrestling. Youre either a striker or a ground fighter. Tough to strike when youre off your feet. On the ground your son would have a big advantage cause of his size.

I wouldnt want my kid to fight him but IF there is no way out you do what you have to do...Hate to say it but this is one of those life lessons we all learned the hard way that your son is going to figure out on his own, most of us have both given and taken a beating...agree when its your kid its a different story but we cant protect them forever...good luck...

Could all be BS, due to the fact that if this kid is really a blackbelt and his instructors caught wind that he was being a bully they would have his a**. Many styles are in it for the money that is why you see 10 y/o kids with blackbelts. Find out where this kid trains and inform the school of what he is doing. Another point if this kid is a true black belt then he knows he has the advantage and should be taught that he only to use his skills when being attacked.

If the bad guy does know Karate. Your son does not want to have a bat. He does not want to sneak up behind or come streight on from the front. Best is standing at angle close as possible some what to the side. The open spot will be the shin. You place your foot against his shin and move it down with great force to the foot. This move one of the hardest to protect against. It brings great pain and a reaction to grap ones fot that feals like it just got broken. This lets your son with his extra weight to get the chit head on the ground. You now have as good achance as he does and maybe even more advantage.
Thats a old timer talking that did some golden gloves and had about 40 lessons in karate. Witch is not much in karate. I did it for excersie for health reasons. It is very good for that. I think the bad guy here may be blowing some smoke. Also the senior being a tough guy to the younger guy will prove nothing and win him no friends. I would get in my car and follow about ablock back to ses what goes down. This gives you a chnace to move in and stop anything from happening. Again if the senior wants to stay on the team the coach should have idea chit he's trying to pull. A couple questions of the coach also seem right thing to do. Just not in front of anyone in private

heres the deal now..................My kid called a few guys from the team lastnight to let them know the deal. I am assuming that now all of the boys will be talking tthroughout the day today during school and this whole thing will escilate............so as I drove my kid to the train station this morning even though I would have rather called him out sick LOL my advice was KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.................IF HE STARTS WITH YOU ,IGNORE HIM, IF THAT DOESN"T WORK AND YOU HAVE TO FIGHT, LET HIM THROW THE FIRST PUNCH, THEN "TACKLE" HIM TO THE GROUND AND BEAT THE PISS OUT OF HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T STOP UNTILL THE OTHER BOYS PULL YOU APART.......................... I almost wanted to tell him to try to break his fingers or crush his hands ( He is the starting wide reciever for the team )but I didn't........................ I knew when I sent my boy to a all boys school that there would be fighting ,boys fight , but the karate thing scared me and I think him too..............I am not as worried now that my son has some boys from school on his side and my guess would be that other kids may want a piece of Tyrie also . I would guess that this isn't the first time he has bullied other boys. So now I sit and wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the boys are going to call me when they leave school on there way to football!!!!!!!!!!! I really hope my son kicks this kids azz but good.................. we'll see

I want to spy so bad but I promised my son I wouldn't!!!!!!!!!! I will pick him up at 6:00 after practice ...............

:( we'll see, I'll fill you in later ...........

btw- it is a myth that these black belt kids hands are registered I asked a cop , he told me the same thing everyone said "get the kid on the ground!" he will not be able to use his karate talent from there ..............so I do feel like my kid is at an advantage because he plays tackle for defense and won't have a problem bringing him down I HOPE!!!!!!!!!!!:( now I just sit back and worry all day !!!!!!!!!! :(

Best of Luck Tbone, but guess this is one of life's lessons for your son. Hoops is right on- BJJ is the most extreme. Too bad your son doesn't wrestle either, which is a lot more useful than flying kicks. With wrestling skills once the perp was on his back it would only be a matter of time before he'd be tapping out- IMHO. Besides if 'the Karate kid' was a true practioner of the arts he wouldn't be acting like a bad ass.

As far as fighting goes....Karate is crap.

period, end of statement.

Probably ranks right up there with basic forms of judo for effectiveness in trying to kick someone's ass

If a fight is going to happen tell yer boy not to mess around. A quick finger jab to the eye, tearing off the ear and a swift grab and twisting of the balls should put the karate kid down a few notches on his inflated ego scale.

another effective tool is the "fish hook" once karate kid goes down, have your son get behind him, reach around and hook his index finger in the idiots cheek inside the lip and just PULL back as hard as he can.

Why people always dick around with punching and kicking is beyond me. You want to end the scuffle as quickly as you can to avoid getting yourself hurt with some sucker punch.

Amen. Why break your hand. Your legs are stronger. Once on ground it's all even. I forgot the old hook the lip one. Will make you behave fast. Just dont place hand in mouth. Well unless your going to stick your complete fist in it.
