normally dont bet the nfl particularly heavy. havent seen anything in preseason or the first two weeks that i like as much as this one. having said that, not trying to hype this game by any means. i think anyone who knows me knows my style. this is a strong nfl play for me, but - keep in mind - this IS the nfl. (if you get what im alluding to. sh1t never makes sense some times)

anyways:

2.5 units.......detroit (+3.5) over minnesota

would play it on the moneyline, but i'll grab the field goal and hook instead i think.

i guess maybe its just my way of looking at stuff, but in regard to some early posts this week about this being a fishy line and betting detroit as a contrarian play- i dont see this line as really "off" by any means. lions have fared very well in this series lately. vikings certainly have impressed the 1st two weeks, but lions have put up a boatload of points at home this season/preseason. it just seems like harrington is really comfortable at ford field. his number would support that as well. still not sold on the minnesota running game either. (to that point, lions have their own running issues, but im not the one layin points in this one) definitley doesnt hurt that this is probably a contrarian play, but thats hardly the reason im betting it. lions will win this game straight up. just seems like mariucci is really getting the lions to play with a sense of purpose at home. theyll take their lumps on the road, but i like these guys as a home dog.

I like that pick to Gman. I think that Bryson looks as if he could possibly get their running game going in the right direction. Getting 3 and a hook could be some good value here. Also, we are fixing to start seeing the Vikings of old. But, I do see a shootout here as I'm liking the over pretty big here. gltu:D

i can C this either way, but my only concern was how easily Minny moved ball and coulda blown out Bears, then would line have been 5-6?
Mooch has Deet excited a little, tho Zona had Deet on ropes in game one too, check the flow of that game. ..

I feel safer play might be OVER ...

could see easily 50s/even 60s type game

you guys are both right re: the over. i wish i was an over player. ive trained myself to either look under or to pass the total. the nfl has the lamest freakin rules to keep the clock running, and some of these expected shooutouts turn into defensive battles somehow. (see: cleveland v. indy week one. how in the world was that a 9-6 game?)

having said that, its funny because right when i looked at this game, i told my buddy to activate some of his lions and vikings for his fantasy team because this one is gonna be points galore. so im definitely thinking along the same lines with the total (over). i just wont have the nads to play it.

but pt1gard- you make a valid point. had vikings blown bears out, line might have been 4 or 4.5 (dont think wed have seen 5-6, but definitely woulda been higher than the current spread by 1/2 point or full point).

but that, in itself, is my point. vikings have never been a disciplined team who puts teams away. they seem to play up and down to their opponents level. if vikings play the way the played for most of that bears game (from the 2nd quarter on), they will assuredly lose this one imo.

gl guys. thx for the feedback

the lions and suny buffalo in one week. you are a risk taker for sure. my uncle used to tell me if you bet garbage teams, your money will go in the trash with them.

good luck. you are a very unorthodox capper!

Thanks for the insight G-MAN. MINN was one of my top picks for the week, but now I think I'll go with the OVER. Good luck this weekend.:D

still in shock from the lions failing to score with 2:00 having it first and goal from the one foot line. will take it like a man and congratulate vikings bettors, but my god- still incredulous that the lions failed 4 times from the one foot line. ouch. props to vikings bettors. for those that followed on the lions, my apology. was there for the taking, but apparently wasnt to be.

I was on Minny big, so I'm very happy, but it was a real struggle. The only point I will make that might make you feel better is that Minn missed an extra point earlier, if they kick that and Det scores a TD, unless they convert a two-point play Minn would cover anyway. Also, Culpepper went down which mean Minn very conservative in the second half.

Phew, I was very lucky there.

englishman:

i know what you mean. lots of missed opportunities and points left on the board for both teams. im not much of a "venter", thats not my style. no sense in blasting the lions for not scoring on 1st and goal from the 1 late in the game. instead- i give the vikings credit. they could have let the lions walk in but they didnt. just a tough loss, thats all. good post. take it easy man
