NFL's most over rated player IMO is

#1 Ricky Williams, another ordinary 13/36 day (long run of day: 6 yds), doesnt run hard any more and looks to fall down, will hit hole hard only when he sees daylight ... hes in rapid decline but no one wants to mention it ... his 3.35 pc is the worst for anyone in top 30 ball carriers in NFL (other than the human joke eddie george at 2.9) 11 of the top 20 Rbs are over 4.5 pc (5 are over 5 pc) ... Plus he is tied with William and Aman Green for most fumbles for RB in league at 5 ...

amazing how many RBs run so much harder yet he still gets props ...

love to hear comments or list other players U think are over rated ... Ive just noticed this basically all season with RW, used to think the world of him, but just calling it as I see it, he's soft as meringue

Great topic. I'm going to chime in. But, I'd sure like to hear some other thoughts as well.

My most over-rated list includes (listed in no particular order):

E. James (RB -- Indianapolis) Always seems to be injured, hardly ever gives an inspired performance, gets paid a staggering amount of money -- yet when is the last time you remember Mr. James coming up with a big time performance in a big game? That's right, NEVER.

J. Seehorn (DB -- St. Louis) It was all because of his supposed good looks and the fact he played in New York. Very average.

K. Johnson (WR -- Tampa) All mouth. Should have big numbers based on his supporting cast and tall size, but seems very mediocre in reality.

D. Culpepper (QB -- Minnesota) Looks confused much of the time. Unless his pass protection is perfect and everything is clicking, Culpepper won't win the game. Without Moss jumping for balls, Culpepper would be in the bottim third of the NFL starting QBs. He has all the tools including size and strength, but has never progressed to the point where he should be at this stage of his career.

T. Brown (WR -- Oakland) Runs up lots of catches and yards after the game has already long been decided. Has an abysmal record in playoff games. Good attitude and a team player, but doesn't deserve Hall of Fame mention, which is where he will probably end up.

S. Janikowski (PK -- Oakland) One of the NFL's dumbest players -- listen to an interview with this guy and you'll be apalled. He makes Bo Jackson sound like a Rhodes Scholar. Was a first round draft pick, yet has struggled repeatedly with accuracy. Off the field behavior is an ambarassment.

C. Martin (RB -- NY Jets) Has never been a big game performer. Gets most of his yardage because of large number of carries. Not a breakaway back, not willing to get the extra yard. Iv'e seen him run out of bounds ONE YARD SHORT of the first down marker more times than I can count.

T. Barber (RB -- NY Giants) Mr. Fumble. Enough said.

R. Buchanan (CB -- Atlanta) Can't beleive this guy was in the Pro Bowl a few times. Call him "Mr. Toast." He's a struggling WR's best freind.

THE ENTIRE ROSTER OF THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS -- Classic underacheivers. Year in and year out.

D. Bledsoe (QB -- Buffalo) I have never understood the public's fascination with this very average QB. He's never ascended to the elite calss of the NFl, despite godzillion pass attempts and multiple opportunities to be a superstar. He consistently strings together 350 yards games follwed by 150 yard games with 4 interceptions. Absolutely no mobility. Might as well be sact in cement. Not much of a leader either.

D. McNabb (QB -- Philadelphia) His numbers are hurt by having no decent wideouts. But, he's simply not getting the job done.

J. Thrash (WR/RB/TE -- Philadelphia) An absolute moron. His play in Sunday's game just before halftime was typical. Eagles' ball in Atlanta territory. Six seconds left on the clock. Eagles need ten yards for a FG. McNabb hit Thrash for a 15 yard gain on the sideline and the imbecile procceds to run towards the enter of the field when he could have EASILY stepped out of bounds. Time expires. A dumb shiit.

C. Dillon (RB -- Cincinnatti) -- This might be the worst of all. What did he have, ONE game about four years ago where he gained 200 yards. The rest of his career is lackluster. Time and time again he gets the ball in critical situations and can't get the extra yard or make the first down. Now, we see he has a major mental attitude. Absolute poison to a team chemistry.

M. Booker (WR -- Chicago) Has it all -- size and speed. The Bears throw 45-50 times a game, yet this miserable clod of flesh can't get open. Bears would be better off running a wishbone than lining up this reciever who disappears into pass coverage every time the Bears need a "go to" receiver.

J. Harrington (QB -- Detroit) His career started off hot. Since then, he's looked awful. Looks lost, throws into double coverage, and is quickly becoming the next Heath Shuler.

Okay, which ones have I missed?

Keyshaun Johnson and Daunte Culpepper were the first two to come to my mind.

I don't agree with most on Nolan's list, but that is why we have opinion threads like this. Most notably, the entire Pittsburgh Steelers roster? I'm not a Steelers fan, but I would take a couple of their players over most anyone in the league at their position. Give me the Steelers receivers with a consistent QB and it's over.

#1 WARREN SAPP - Is there a more obnoxious, more outspoken player who does not perform on the field? Some may argue Keyshawn, but I think he's quieted his act...This year after 8 games, Sapp has registered 18 solo tackles, 3 assisted, and 3 sacks. His sack total since 2001 now matches that of his entire 2000 season. A good player, yes, a superstar, no. Seems to have gotten a lot louder, contrary to his on field performance.

#2 SHANNON SHARPE - Another loudmouth asshole, whose actually toned down his act a bit, but still...good for 9 TD's since 2001. Understanding the TE is not the touchdown guy in Denver's system, but still think he's not worth the hype.

#3 DEUCE MCCALLISTER - Career year last year...where is he now?

#4 CURTIS MARTIN - On my list mainly because I finally bit on him in fantasy football this year, and he completely tanked. Agreed though, ND, lotta carries, and then just sets up for a 30 yd field goal, or even shorter.

#5 STEVE MCNAIR - Am I on drugs? No. Seems every year, he is the preseason MVP pick. They commend his toughness, his ability to play injured, his perserverence. Then, midseason, something breaks. Then, the Billy Volek era begins.

Underrated players post to come?

Want to defend Marty Booker...

Want to defend Marty Booker...

The Bears have only thrown 241 passes in 8 games = 30/per game. The Bears have also one of the WORST off.coord. in the nfl with John Shoop devising and calling their schemes. Think Booker has done quite well the past couple years in spite of all this.

WTF??? Tim Brown? He has been double covered 95% of his career and still has very impressive numbers. Agree that maybe he should have hung it up about 3yrs. ago, but he was always a go to guy. I also disagree with Duece. He is a fantastic back.

Corey Dillon overrated? His recent attitude problems aside, he's been the only 'player' on the Bengals offense for the last 6 years. Defenses have keyed on him every game as the Bungals have not had any semblance of a passing attack since this season (and the final few games of last season). Yet Dillon gets his 1300 yards and a very respectable YPC year in, year out. The guy is underrated, if anything.

And Harrington...let's give the guy a couple of full seasons before crucifying him. And some players to work with on offense. They have no running game, Rogers has been hurt..without him, the Lions receiving corps is arguably the worst in the league. I believe they have the highest number of dropped balls in the NFL so far this season.

Keyshawn is a victim of his team. He is not in an offense that showcases his talent or has the supporting cast around him. Brad Johnson is average QB who is just efficient. Keyshawn will be in the NFL HALL OF FAME, bank on it.

"the bunker"
mcnair????

mcnair????

he`s finally getting the due he richly deserved this year....has the guy ever been in a pro bowl game?......that`s ludicrous....

i`d like to see peyton manning or rich gannon or culpepper put up the points mcnair does with an absolutely pedestrian surrounding cast....give mcnair a randy moss or the rice/brown combo or manning`s receivers.....then,the record books take a beating...

mcnair may be THE most under rated player of the past decade....

you want overrated?.....try the guy he has to hand the ball off to....eddie george....

btw...marcel shipp is headed for stardom if he sytays healthy...nice observation,v.......

corey dillon is a very talented guy....but he`s a virus....cincy will be better when he`s gone....
