gruden's call wasnt really that bad, nor was fassel's.
fassel didnt have a choice.
gruden, on the other hand, did.
sure bucs coulda kicked FG but then giants get a chance to get a kickoff return and start at the 30 or 40 yd line.
bucs 1st down woulda sealed the game. even after failing on 4th, giants had to go 90 yards and score a TD.
weird ending obviously, but not necessarily by way of bad coaching

so funny......was having a conversation with a friend of mine about coaching in the CFL and coaching in the NFL.........and we were debating on how in the CFL there is only one time-out per half and I said because of that the CFL coaches have to be able to make decisions "in heat of the moment" and decide from there.....in the NFL......you have 6 total timeouts and thus allow yourself some "time" to think of what you want to do........

THEN I SEE WHAT HAPPENED at end OF MNF GAME

guess who won the argument.....I mean talk about some horrific decisions with regards to the clock........what a JOKE :nono:

I think the big mess-ups were:

* TB calling the timeout at 2:19, and
* then NYG burning their last timeout.

I could see TB going for the 4th/1. BUT you're putting TB D right back in the late/tired spot they've been burnt before.

The NYG onside kick was really their only shot, b/c they'd save the time and gain field position. That said, the onside kick w/ no tee was inept.

calling timeout to decide if you want to go for it was retarded. i agree there.

but going for it wasnt a bad decision at all. make a team go 90+ yards to beat you, especially vs that defense. not dominant like past yrs but still tough to go 90 yds on

I think it was dumb not to kick the field goal to go up 7. Either way the Giants need a TD. A td to win, or TIE. It worked for him.. But you have to kick that fg.

Giants +5:mad: Why do I not ever learn to quit betting on these fawking monday nighters. Thankfully I had the under. I was just waiting for Tampa to get the onside kick and just run into the endzone, like Dallas against Philly. What fawking bullshit the nfl is!!:bsflag

Another Option!!

Another Option!!

I like the chances of a 4th and long if I'm the Giants, better than an onside kick recovery. Who cares about field position at that point. Will yourself to win, instead of thinking about losing.

We should see plenty of teams going for it on 4th and long in the next few weeks. Teams out of the hunt and playing the role of spoiler.

Keep it Positive, Topdog

Topdog, I couldn't agree more. Although a 4th and 19 is extremely difficult to convert, I still think the chances are better than recovering an onside kick. Especially an onside kick without being able to use a tee!!!!
The biggest joke is the timeout by the Giants just after the two minute warning. It's 4th and 19 at your own 3 yard line, how bad does a delay of game penalty hurt your team??? A 1 1/2 yard penalty to save a timeout!!! Would have been well worth it in my opinion!!!!!

Everyone is forgetting the first screw up, Gia not going for 2 with about 6 to go in the game. Team is down by 11 if u score the toward the end of the game u HAVE TO GO FOR 2.
If Gia make the 2pt covnversion then the play calling is totally different.
Personally, I think both coachs had their head up each others A$$.
