Actually the first screw up was made by me for betting on the Giants. . .even though I pushed.
The first screw up of the game was on the opening kickoff. The dumb ass Giants decline an offside penalty on the kickoff to take possession of the ball on their own 28 yard line. They then go 3 and out.
Why not make them kick again? What's the worst that could happen?
Fassel, coaching staff, and Kerry Collins are brain-dead. Combined, they made a handful of idiotic moves. Like going for 1 instead 2 (mentioned above); calling a deep pass pattern on third and 1 when you're driving, running the ball; getting sacked on the last play of the half; wasting timeout in last 2 minutes; overthrowing wide open receivers (Collins); etc; etc; etc.
As for the Bucks going for it on 4th down with less than a yard to go, I think that's the right call. You've got confidence in your offense to pick it up. If you don't get it, you've got confidence in your defense to stop the opponent. . . in this case, the hapless Giants. The Giants showed no ability to move the ball consistently.
A field goal attempt isn't a lock. If it's blocked and returned for a touchdown, then you're screwed. If it is made, then the Giants get the ball on the kickoff with a chance for a score to tie the game. Overtime can go either way. I like the call Gruden made to go for it.
There's my 2 cents. . . and my last 2 cents for a while.
To quote the Piltdown Man (Jerry Glanville) - "The NFL - Not For Long". I stopped betting the NBA a couple of years ago. The NFL has joined them on my "Do not bet" list. I'm done with these overpaid morons. :thefinger
