*failed to complete picks on time*

Well its all over but the check cashing. Not to my surprise at all, Petey failed to make his picks on time. I know that Petey has had a tough couple of weeks, one of his friends moms was in the hospital, and I am not insensitive to that. I had a good friend from high school die last week and went home for the memorial service, so its not as if I dont understand his situation and its not as if *I* had any easier of a week. But his tough month wasnt tough enough to prevent him from coming in here just last week to harass me in another thread and (again) insult me and my fiance:

1/19
"WE ARE FORMULATING A STRATEGY AND WE WILL BE MAKING OUR REMAINING 30 PICKS BEFORE THE SUPER BOWL. GOOD LUCK."

1/20
"Oh you're not going to the party now. Sounds like your broad has you on a short leash. THAT'S NOT SURPRISING CONSIDERING SHE'S OUT MAKING A LIVING AND ALL YOU DO IS PLAY ON MADJACKS AND WHINE ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD HEALTH INSURANCE. YOU BETTER REACH DOWN AND MAKE SURE YOUR BALLS ARE STILL THERE. IF THEY AREN'T CHECK HER JEWELRY BOX!!!!"

1/20
"houseboy
Hey ace I realize that you aren't contributing financially to this purchase whatsoever but did your broad at least let you have your name on the title? DID SHE THROW YOU A BONE??"

So I know hes here, I know hes been around at least long enough to insult me some more and I know hes had MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME to throw 30 picks out there. Pete has picked the underdog and the under every time he has made plays and at one point he picked 108 games in one day, so how long or how much thought does that take? I dont want anyone to think this doesnt mean I dont feel about what is happening, but it was **his choice** to wait until the very last day to make his picks, he could have finished this up 6 weeks ago. And I know he was online until at least last week, so he could have made his picks then, it was **his choice** to wait.

I have gotten a few emails from folks that it seems like know him (or maybe are him using an anonymous email) saying that I shouldnt expect to get paid from Petey and I shouldnt expect him to pay up, thats why I say "payment doubtful" I think this is total and complete horseshit. I offered to have this bet at $100, as the quote below says, and feel free to go find the posts he made about this, HE wanted it to be $600 and HE borrowed money to make it happen when he wanted to bet more than he could afford. I dont feel bad in any way, shape or form wanting to get paid now after all the shit he put me through for 5 months the way he insulted me and kept my personal financial woes in the public domain, but you can check out my Private Petey thread for my rant on that. I have a new house to pay for.

If he wants to welch out on our bet, thats going to be his choice, but I will have the utmost respect for him if he actually comes out of the woodwork and pays up.

Couple things Ace

Couple things Ace

First off didn't you and Petey send checks to Jack for the contest, therefore doesn't Jack have the money, if so I find it hard to believe you won't get paid.

Second, I don't think anyone here questions you on any level about anything, you have helped me out on issues in the past as well as others, so your best play here may just to be the bigger man and let it go. I think Fletcher has it right, Petey is young and head-strong, nothing you can do will win this fight, you'll just end up looking like your whining about the $600, which I don't think anyone would really blame you for if you did, but what will that help?

I, with the willing help of a couple others turned the General forum into a shit-hole for a few days a while back, and when all was said and done nothing came of it except people who have never met not liking each other, Jack's forum getting BS'd up, people threatened, etc...., the upside was, well, nothing.

It sure LOOKS like Petey ran his mouth, got beat and went running with his tail between his legs, a victory for you, however if it really was personal problems that kept him from completing his picks, then I would think collecting your winnings and wishing him the best would be enough, seems like you won on both accounts.

I also hope he comes back, dude made me laugh like no other on this forum, I mean you can't make up the stuff he posted, sometimes reality is better than fantasy.

If he comes back and starts saying he would have won except for not being able to make his last plays, then you have an issue on your hands, but until then be the bigger man here;)

Im not going to argue this point with you, but what if it was me? You better damn well believe if the tables were turned, Petey would be stomping up and down, demanding to get paid. So what does that say, you can make bets, and if you lose, the winner should just be the bigger man and write off your debt?

If Petey hadnt made such a big deal out of insulting me and my fiance over the past 5 months I probably would be more inclined to work out something. But penguin, read back, read everything he said about me and her, read how he dragged my financial problems through the mud for 6 months, he kept my unemployment right here in public - then tell me if you think you could do what it is you ask that I do. He's been jumping up and down on my head right up until last week, so I'm not about to write off 6 months of him behaving like that.

If back in October he lightened up or came to me privately and said hey can we call this off or hey I cant afford this, you know, I might have. I even asked that negotiations for this contest be held privately, so that we could work someting out between the two of us. But he wanted it public, he drove this train right up to the edge of the cliff - until he realized he would lose.

I debated on whether to chime in hear, but for once,:D S-Love did hit the nail on the head. Dirty or clean, you made the choice on whether to come in here and air your laundry. Unfortunately, PP decided to use it in way that was demeaning, disrespectful, and probably a little below the belt. I think back at some of the stupid crap I used to do and say when I was in my twenties (now 41) and just shake my head. I'm sure I came across to some people as one big A-hole and at the time, didn't think anything of it. I would like to think I have matured a little since then and hopefully, with a few years under his belt, PP will do the same.

As far as the wager goes, you did your part and lived up to your end of the deal, and everyone who frequents this forum has seen that, PP didn't. Whether you see your cash or not, (I to remember Jack saying that he received both checks, I think), remains to be seen. I'm sure $600 wouldn't make a big change in your life style, so bragging rights might be all you get out of this. If you see the six bones, that is just gravy.

Penquin fan wrote a great post, so I won't rehash what he has already stated, but the part about being the bigger person, and having more dignity and class then your opposition, should be filed away in your head. You now have the ammo to bring up in the future if the situation arises, but just keep it in that file until needed. You made your point by winning the contest and posting some of PP's classless posts, so IMO, if you keep stirring the pot, you are only lowering yourself to his level. Your right, if the tables would be turned, everyone knows PP would be in here throwing endless amounts of smack, but what does that say about him. You have shown that you have more class than he does, IMO, I have more respect for that champion than who is the best handicapper.

Good Luck to you and your fiance and congrats on the new crib.

OK thanks guys, and Crunch you have a lot of good points I cant argue with you. I've already gotten an email from someone who thinks I'm being unreasonable. I guess I will just butt out, apparently winning a bet and wanting to get paid are not character traits some people in here - sports bettors all of us - think are acceptable.

Thanks for the input. I've said my piece, I will keep quiet for now.

And by the way I am only basing whether or not I get paid on the fact that Petey hasnt been in touch in a couple of weeks, and an email or two indicated there is a chance when I get the check from Jack, it may not do much good. So if I get it and it cashes, I will certainly have respect for Petey for standing behind his loss.

Ace, I don't think anyone said that, I started my first post by asking weather or not Jack had the money in his posession, assuming the checks were made out to him in the first place. Certainly I think you should get paid and consider it unreasonable if you don't, that wasn't my point, my point was starting a forum war about him would serve useless, guess I should have been more clear about that, being the bigger man does not mean not getting paid, you put the risk out there and deserve compensated.
Congrats on winning by the way.

Ace, I don't think to many people would find it amusing to have themselves and their fiance berated like you did from PP, so IMO, I didn't think you overreacted, merely just defending yourself.

Unfortunately, people welch on bets all of the time, and time will tell whether PP fits into this group. Hopefully one day in the future, he will make good on this bet. I think I have seen it a few times happening on this site, so your not alone. Ought to be a lesson learned for everyone.

I don't agree with a lot of the people on here. I think you have every right to expect to get paid for several reasons. First off, I'm pretty sure you would have paid had you lost. It's not like it was 2 boneheads, neither of whom would have paid. Second, how much time did you put into this contest? A pretty considerable amount I would think. The fact that this guy wasted that much time of your life, you have every right to want to be payed. I guess from the start, you should have had the money on the table in jacks posession, or something like that in case he welched on the bet. I'm not surprised, but at least in my opinion, you are not being hard on the kid. If he is as young as he says, then he needs to be held accountable for stuff like this. On the internet, he may get away with it. But in real life, people aren't going to be so forgiving. Better he learns his lesson now then the hard way later.

Just my opinion of couse.

Sorry Jack, like I said I was only basing this on the email I received and the fact that he didnt answer any of my posts looking for him. Didnt mean to ruffle anyones feathers, like I said, I'll wait to see what happens.

You know, I dont know what it is about Jack and these mugs, but way back in the day for some contest, maybe the Aces Gold one, he told me he would send me a mug and I had it a week later. In fact, I had coffee from it yesterday morning.

Ace, he could be busy working extra hours at the airport strip-searching poor ol' dangerous grandmothers to get the money to pay you off.
