ESPN2's little scrollbar is reporting that the Rangers have agreed in principle to a trade, sending A-Rod to NYY for Soriano and a minor leaguer. From what I've read, A-Rod will play third as he's that desparate to get out of Texas. Which is odd. You'd think he'd have a little more loyalty to the team that gave him the contract that is the biggest joke in the history of professional sports (I'm not a Ranger fan, BTW).

At least this is a trade and not raping some small-market club of its free agents, but it doesn't make me hate them any less.

Anyone but the Yanks in 2004!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frankly I'm happy with the trade. I would have been happy if the Sox got Arod, but I didnt want to give up Nomar AND Manny to get him. Now this makes the Yankee haters that much more vocal.

Fvck A-Rod and you know what FVCK Scott Boras. That peckerhead is the one that jumped up and down to get Texas to sign this deal in the first place, dont you guys remember Texas was the high bidder, then outbid THEMSEVLES by $92 MILLION!!! A-Rod has no one to blame BUT HIMSELF for Texas being in the shape they are, what exactly did he think would happen? I think Texas will be happy with Soriano, frankly his numbers vs Arods, I dont know what they are but hes a 40-40 guy if I remember right. Arod is still probably the best all around player in baseball. Yankees payroll easily over $200 Mil now.

I'm so sick of baseball. They might as well just give the Yankees four outs in an inning and move the fences in only when they are at bat.

And yeah, $200 million!? That's just criminal to the other teams trying to compete.

Ace- keep in mind you guys would've gotten Mags, too, so it wouldn't have been just A-Rod for Manny and Nomar. I think you would've been better off with the new guys, to be honest. Regardless, I'm pulling for your boys big-time to take the East.

But you are straight on with the Boras comment. The Rangers are idiots for buying into his bullshit. A-Rod's deal crippled Texas.

Their offense will be unreal except for 2nd base. However, if I was the Yankees I would move Jeter to 3rd and keep ARod at SS. Jeter is a below average fielder and ARod one of the best. Then again, probably won't matter with this team. Still, nothing is ever a lock.

Best offense in the league means nothing. Sox had the best hitting team in history last year. Getting Riviera healthy, hoping Brown is healthy and hoping they keep Contreras, thats how theyre going to win.

Lieber, forgot about him but wow, what another huge risk they are taking. This guy has ONE what I would call good year in his whole career in 2001 when he went 20-6. Thats three years ago and hes coming off Tommy John surgery to boot. These kind of risks either make personnel guys look like geniuses or fools.

Anyway from a Sox standpoint, they needed starting pitching help and they needed bullpen help, I dont think anyone here would argue that. They added the best free agent SP in Curt Schilling and a 40+save guy in Keith Foulke. The Sox were 5 outs from the Series last year and they have gotten much much better in my opinion. Can their offense get better? Maybe, maybe not. Some of those guys wont have career years again, but then again guys like David Ortiz will play full time and get another 150 ABs. Obviously A-Rod makes the Yankees better, but they give up a guy I really love in Soriano to get him, and they have a couple big question marks in their SP.

All that being said, man is opening day here yet?

Definately a great move by the Yanks. I can understand people think its just nuts that they can do this, but alot of people love them, and they will pay big money to see them win, thats why they dish out the money they do to get these markee names. I think the Cubs easily could be up there with the Yanks in payroll, but they are really cheap at times, even though this year I have seen them dish out the most money in a while. Everybody had there fair shot to get A-Rod, but it looks like they Yanks come out on top once again....

Cubs cheap? How 'bout the Sox? The Cubs payroll is over $20 miilion higher than Sox. I think Cubs get a bad rap for being cheap.

who knows whats going on with the Sox, thats a Reinsdorf thing too. They had a nice team last year and they just let everybody get away. Same thing though, they don't want to dish money to get the players as well. Problem is there, nobody goes to the games, they don't get as much revenue as the Cubs do...

I assure you The Yankees aren't done..

I assure you The Yankees aren't done..

By mid-season they will have Carlos Delgado ,Albert Pujols,Mike Piazza, Garrett Anderson, BretBoone,Jim Edmonds etc. etc....

I'm surprised they let I-ROD slip thru their fingers this free agency. Their payroll must be 1 Billion by now ! LOL

Let's see if The Red Sox can beat The Evil Empire. Just do it !

:D

to the red sox fans out there i think schilling put it best "Arod to the Yankees.... its another challenge, but after 85 years did any of you think that getting over this final hurdle and winning it all was gonna be a cake walk? No, it'll be more fun this way. So lets move on, let whatever happens happen, and focus on the fact that the best Red Sox team in the last 100 years takes the field in 7 days, for a ride that is guaranteed to be the most memorable of any of our lives over the next 8 months." I cannot wait to see how this is going to play out this year. If the soxs or anyone else for that matter can get it done it will be mayham in NYC

Is the Arod signing huge? Yes. But the last 3 years Sox fans have listened to the Yankees being hailed as instant WS champions before the season started and teams with one third the Yanks payroll end up winning it all.

here yah go, lmao!!

No team has ever won a World Series with a player who has a $100 million contract. The Yankees have four and counting....

Rodriguez, Kevin Brown, Jason Giambi and Derek Jeter -- No team has ever had four such guys.
