Beginning Balance = $200.00
I went into the final week of the Infinity NFL contest at +$3.50 and in 23rd place. After looking at the standings, and realizing there were only 3 games I really liked, I thought that using a bye would be my best strategy. But because I already won $200 in the BestLine NCAA contest, and feeling the spirit of the Christmas season, I decided to post a play in order to give all the knuckleheads (you'se guys are the greatest, and I mean that) a fair shot. When I went 2-3 and finished at +2.20 I figured I was toast, but I was surprised to discover on Tuesday that I hung on to a winning position (and might have moved up to 3rd with a 5-0 week!).
I liked the idea in an earlier post (sorry, but I forget who came up with the idea) of using the contest windfall for something worthwhile. I'm not a high roller, so when I have a "Best Bet" I really like with my own money, I'm going to up the ante by also making a play with this fund. If I can build the bankroll up to $1000 (even if I'm winning, that's going to take a while if I stick with my "Best Bet" criteria), I'm going to give some of the money to a worthy charity for kids, and use the rest of it as a prize fund for some type of contest during next year's football season. Since dollars are fungible and I expect a good number of the plays to involve golf, the wagers won't be limited to propositions at Infinity.
Best Bet #1:
- USC(-7) over Michigan (1/1/04) ($55 to win $50)
Thanks to Jack, Infinity and IE for a great contest.
