Road Trip

Hey guys,

Me and two buddies are gonna be taking a major road trip this summer. Were taking my 67 VW camper from Long Island, NY to California.

Out route is gonna be something like this:

Long Island, NY
Virginia Beach, VA
Myrtle Beach, SC
New Orleans, LA
San Diego, CA
San Francisco, CA (dad's house)
South Lake Tahoe, CA
Las Vegas, NV
Fountain Hills, AZ (grandparents house)
-from Zona were gonna take rt 66/ accompanying interstates to ...
St. Louis, MO
Chicago, IL
-then we'll either go straight east home, or go up through Detroit, Canada, Niagra Falls, and back home.

So we are planning on doing some camping and staying in some cheap hotels. All three of us are graduating college in May, but some of us have commitments until the end of June. We will be leaving the last week in June. I plan on driving 6-8 hours a day, approx 350-400 miles. I just bought a new engine for my bus so hopefully relaibility will not be a problem.

The only major problem that we can see so far is going to be the heat. Mid July in a bus with no ac ... whew. I found this portable "air conditioner" on ebay. It's basically a fan unit that connects on top of a cooler and blows the cold air out. Any have any experience with these.

So yeah, that's my story. Gonna see a lot of stuff and we're all psyched. We plan on being onthe road for about 35 days. We're gonna stay in VA and Myrtle Beach for a day or two, chill in San Diego for a day, spend a few days with my dad, a few more in Vegas and a few with my grandparents. The rest is up to us.

Anyone got any places the we definatley have to see?
Any things I should know before leaving?

Please share any experiences that you guys have had on road trips.

No experience with any air condition stuff so cannot answer your question there. I went to college in the Midwest so we used to drive to vegas on extended trips many moons ago. I will take a guess of what your post should read when you return though:

35 days in a car with two friends you will grow to hate each other. I wanted to kill mine after 2 days in the car. But its an experience and you will have fun.....good luck on your trip and have as much fun as possible....good age and time to be doing something like this

I'm so psyched to get out and see so many different things.

Anyone have any must see places along the way? I dont mean like the Grand Canyon ... I mean like places in the cities that I listed that people wouldnt normally know about. Good places to eat, good bars, etc.

of course you should take a phone & join aaa. never know when you will need road assistance.

don't travel at night, best to drive in the morning.

Gas Lamp Quarter in San Diego, lot of outside stuff, open air restaurants/bars. Really nice when I went out there.

gdogg, Im from long island also, rockville centre You're trip sounds good, I'm jealous. Haven't been to a lot of those places but I hope to get to vegas and NO at some point, I'm around your age. obviously bourbon st in no if you're a big drinker/partier, and you got the casinos and strip in vegas, Im sure theres tons of places in myrtle beach to pick up some chicks and all, Have a good time, I love traveling personally, it's too bad some people don't want to bother, they're missing out. Id head down to fla also, but it will be very hot, daytona and tampa are nice than you can go back up towards new orleans, I'm sure you'll have a blast

don't go to the macon county line
