headaches and grief. it figures this would happen on a day where its vital that my pc work correctly.

alright im going to try and explain what im experiencing. but the problem is that when it comes to this kind of computer stuff, im an absolute novice and thats what makes this so frustrating.

WHAT IM EXPERIENCING:

*when i try to use internet explorer, it doesnt go to the netscape homepage. it goes to some 'default homepage' and brings a ton of bullsh1t pop-ups with it (adserv, free cell phone, porn popups, etc)

*my task bar disappears, as does my main 'wallpaper' and i have a beige screen that mentions something explains 'spyware' and tells me to 'click here to by a spyware remover' (sic)

*sometimes the screen goes absolutely blank (just white) with no taskbar or anything. just totally blank. and when i try to remove the popups from the task bar, it just fu/cks it up even more and they wont delete.

*when i bought the computer, best buy offered the norton antivirus thing and i said "sure" so i have the antivirus thing installed on my computer but apparently it amounts to shit because this is the box that keeps popping up:

========================
VIRUS ALERT
Norton Anti-Virus has detected a virus on your computer

Object Name: C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/Loc../ScriptBodyJSP[1].htm

Virus Name: Download.Trojan

Access Taken: Access To The File Was Denied
==========================

is this someting norton cant fix?

I downloaded the SpyBotS+D thing that someone suggested that is supposed to work well and is free. It is saved on my computer but HOW DO I RUN THE PROGRAM :shrug: as of now, all i did was go through the 'installation process' with it. i guess im too dumb to know how to use it? how do i actually use it and on what?

Is this something that is easily fixed?

Why does Norton not take care of this and/or why does it say "access denied"?

H-E-L-P and i will forever be indebted to you. this is the worst!

Gman, after u download the spyware killer, it should leave an icon on your desktop. Double click that to install it the rest of the way on your computer. ONce it is installed, it should get rid of that spyware and browser hijacker. gl.

Ever since I downloaded SpywareBlaster, I have not had any problems with my computer.

Before I had SpywareBlaster, whenever I ran Spybot, I always had lots of spyware found....now when I do the check each week, it says "Congratulations! No spyware found".

Spyblaster is free and the last time I ran it, it had 1200 different programs listed. The program does not scan and clean...it prevents spyware from ever being installed .

I also have SpywareGuard, which does the same thing as an anti-virus program, but for spyware. It's free also.

Do the updates before running the program and be sure to check mark all.

here's the link

http://www.wilderssecurity.net/index.html

There's also a forum link on the SpywareBlaster page if you want more info or help.

just ran spyware search+destroy. it found like 93 entries. so i 'destroyed' those. so i was feeling good about everything being corrected.

i restart my computer and i got the following message AGAIN:
(when i tried to log onto my homepage, it goes to all these popup pages and defaults)

========================
VIRUS ALERT
Norton Anti-Virus has detected a virus on your computer

Object Name: C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/Loc../ScriptBodyJSP[1].htm

Virus Name: Download.Trojan

Access Taken: Unable To Repair this File
==========================

how do i get rid of this file?

(thedynasty- i went to that page, did what it said and it didnt delete the file
:confused: :mad:)

every few minutes i get a white screen with "in 30 seconds you will receive an important message".

:confused:

i thought the spyware S+D would take care of this.

this trojan appears to be fu/cking me up

update:

just used the ad-aware program.

i think it found 19 problems or whatever. so i got rid of those and now i have my home page back to normal.

is ad-aware something that can get rid of a trojan virus?

i just want to make sure that even though my computer appears to be back to normal that that virus isnt 'lingering'.

or would i know right away if the trojan was still on my computer.

is ad-aware a program that takes care of trojans?

dr.strangelove:

im new to this stuff (not really 'new', perhaps just new to understanding the importance of these security features and programs that get rid of the bullshit on our computers)

so my question-

how long does it take for computer to accumulate all this crap? like the computer im using now is a new one that i just bought in august. its a brand new one and pretty much top of the line.

how does all this shit get on our computers?

does the fact that we visit these gambling sites/webpages have anything to do with it?

it seems like these programs are detecting a lot of shit on my computer and i just bought a brand new one half a year ago. is this normal? how often should these programs be run?

there are many sites that drop cookies onto an individuals cpu when they visit their sites.

here are some critical programs you should have

1. anti-virus
2. firewall
3. spywareblaster
4. spyguard
5. ad-aware
6. spybot

did you perform the scan of the link i posted above? it will get rid of those trojans u have

also, take the time to read the internet guide i posted,

cheers

Depending on the version of Norton you have, you might be able to go into your quarantine folder and rid your system of this because if North detected it, it would have at least quarantined it.
If Norton is unable to handle it, you will have to get something like Ad-Aware or SpyBot Seek and Destroy to nail it down.

You can get either on http://www.download.com
