B.G BURKETT: NAVY COMMANDERS TO CAST DOUBT ON KERRY'S WAR RECORD

B.G. Burkett: Navy Commanders to Cast Doubt on Kerry's War Record

Several Navy officers who supervised Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry when he commanded a swift boat in Vietnam are preparing to publicly question his war record - including the circumstances under which he was awarded three Purple Hearts - a noted Vietnam War historian revealed on Sunday.

Burkett, whose 1999 book, "Stolen Valor," is considered to be the definitive history of of falsified Vietnam War claims, told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg that Kerry's former commanders would allege that the top Democrat's Purple Hearts were awarded for "self-reported injuries that were virtually nonexistent."

"He never got a day of treatment, he never spent a day in a medical facility," Burkett said. "These were all self-reported wounds, which you're going to hear from some swift boat guys in the future as to the nature of those wounds."

Burkett said he had personally spoken to the Navy commanders who were preparing to go public about Kerry's decorations.

"You're going to get quite a showing [of those speaking out]," Burkett told Malzberg. "I don't know [the number] yet. They're trying to get it to be unanimous of every swift boat guy who ever served."

As to the timetable for the upcoming revelations, Burkett said that Kerry's superior officers "were still discussing that."

"You've got some major rallys being planned against John Kerry by Vietnam veterans on the mall, at the convention - this type of thing," he said. "And we're going to make America aware of John Kerry's military record."

Im still waiting to here from anyone that serve with Bush. As for purple hearts. They hand them out to easy in many cases. Paper work has to be filled out and you never know what may happen. It's like Bronze stars to many of those to. You pull a buddy out of the line of fire and but abandage on them pull a second one and paper work is filled out and you never know. Now a silver star that takes alittle more of doing. They dont come to easy.

Kerry didn't bleed enough. Is that the problem?

No, he uses his militar record now to give an appearance of strength and character. Of course, nowadays it's convenient to do so. Back in the day when the fad was to be against the war, he vilified all military personnel serving in Vietnam.

I don't care one way or another who served or not, but when one brings it up.....

I don't think you will hear anything negative from those that served with him as it was only handful of personel on boats and and the one who wrote reports and nominate him for awards--so he won't changing horses--did see one interview with one that served with him short time that dissed him but could not concur if it was legit or sour grapes. The thing you must remember with small groups is it is very easy to nominate awards to the person responsible for your promotions.

on didn't he bleed enough---

I will say this--the "truely courageous" I saw over there would have been totally embarrassed to have been nominated for purple heart for contusions and scrapes and "certainly" wouldn't have bragged about them and run campaign on their merit.
I think as more light is shed on this issue you will get a much clearer picture.

I haven't looked into the degree of his wounds and most of the information that I have comes from you, but don't you think the Rqpublicans should downplay the military careers?

You have one candidate who at the very least was wounded fighting in a foreign land and another who was (or was not) being trained on an air to air fighter when we were at war with a Country that didn't have an Air Force

I think your point is valid Bobby--with one exception The day he started dragging his military associates to rallys and promoting his miltary endeavors for political gain he then open the facts to scrutiny.

If everything was on up and up he's got no sweat if not his political future is history.

I still say good for him. He didn't duck it he went. No matter the out come he did go. He did not run and hide. And the one guy that was by his side has became a life long friend. Has everyright to be there. Bush should get some of his buddies to show up.

Bobby, with all due respect gw never trained air to air anything. I still haven't witnessed anyone who saw him anywhere near training. Collecting benefits maybe, training naaa...

you see Bush Sr. knows about War, and better than anyone he probably knows his 90IQ kid shouldn't be anywhere near it. In air to air training, no...Jr. was off being schooled on American politics in the great State of Alabama. I mean where the Hell else would a young perfectly healthy American guy be during a national conflict.

how come military service never meant anything for your boy billie, all you libs didn't even want it mentioned during his 2 elections. so we got a draft dodging coward for a president and now you don't think Bush who at least was in the nat'l guard is not qualifiied, but a draft dodging coward was.

Turn it around ctown...

Clinton's military service (or lack of) was a big issue to the Republicans...and now they have a president with a "dodgy" record, all they can do is try and pull down his opponent, and are defensive about Bush...

Fu**ing hypocrites...

That being said,

If Kerry lied about his record, he should be tossed as the democratic candidate, before the convention, and someone like Edwards elected

Not exactly stuck...

If Kerry is shown to have lied about his record, he no doubt would do the honorable thing for his party and withdraw from the race...allowing the Dems to select another...
