It's ready at last. Should have been done years ago. I see Bush will be there. It would be beter if folks like his Dad and Bob Dole who fought in WWII were doing the honors. The Real Heros. Not make believe.

an unneccesary dig on the pres, but do agree those guys and all that served in that generation were great people and heros. This is the momorial in New Orleans, correct? I'd like to go sometime.

i agree with aubie that whoever the pres. is, should be there.

65,

the memorial is in wash. dc, by the mall.

tom brokaw called them "the greatest generation" & i agree this is something that should have been done years ago.

What am I thinking about then? The writer who used to be on the history channel all the time, I think he wrote Band of Brothers(passed away now) used to always talk about it, and I could swear it was in New Orleans.

65,

that author's name was stephen ambrose & i think aubie is correct. you are thinking about the civil war memorial. however. don't understand why it would be in n.o., it makes more sence if it was in gettysburgh, pa. or someplace in virginia. a memorial on the war of 1812 would make more sence in n.o.

Have you ever posted one thread on here w/out whining or bitching in it? You have the ability to spin something positive, like this monument, into a negative. And of course to get another shot in of Bush...give it a rest geesh. I hope retirement doesn't make me a bitter man

The pres should be there period no matter what your political beliefs are. Its about dam time these people where honored. It just a shame that several have passed away before this was done.

i just heard an amazing stat, that about 1100 people from the ww2 generation die per day.

if they waited any longer there would be nobody around from that era.

A close friend of mine has two family members that are among the honored and was invited for the event.

Remember those who served for us this holiday :)

I was thinking the same things before I opened this thread....

Too late.....and almost too late for the people who fought in it.

My dad fought in the pacific theatre during WWII.....served onboard the USS Franklin and got transferred just before a kamikaze pilot slammed into the ship, leaving a gaping hole right above where my dad used to work.....

Timing is everything, especially during war.

Marco you re right. They waited way to long. My two uncles and a cousin never made it to see this. They were differnat back then. Boys 16/17 years old signd up. Never even got to draft age. Thats what I mean about real heros. This day should be left alone to those folks. Those who think there needed but found away to hide when it was there turn. Well call those what ever you wish. Bitter I am not. Proud im dam sure am. For those who went before me and those who went with me. Proud of those who are there today.

It is hard to fathom what went thru their minds landing on a beach with no cover knowing 50% would not make it to cover.---and to volunteer for duty knowing what lie ahead--
Times certainly have changed--I am afraid we will never see such collective courage from so many again--and the same to our allies that fought beside us.
I wonder what the world would be like today had not so many fought so bravely.

Here you go Wilson now you can jump in. I see Clinton and Kerry will be there also. Now it starts to ring of Politics wouldn't you say. Would have been better as i said above to leave it to the Vets from WW II.
AR just saw your question answer is yes.
