Well, there is quite a list, but when it comes to colapsing under pressure yesterday's three putt of a four foot putt on the 17th for Phil "manboobs" Mickleson to lose the US open has to be added to the list. It is right up there with the boston redsox choke (Buckner) against the Mets in the 80's. Or how about Jensen falling on his ass four times in a row at the olympics speed skating. As far as college football goes, I can't think of a bigger choke job then the sundevil defense against Ohio state in the (?97)Rose Bowl to lose the Rose Bowl in the final seconds after Jake Plummer rallied them from behind. This cost them the Rose Bowl, the national championship, and any hint of a sports tradition or heritage. All of these events have one thing in common. It is hard to watch without cringing and sneaking a look between your fingers.

Runner up nominee....

Sprewell on Carlissimo!!!!! :lol2

*thanks for corrections

Forgot about the NFL....

How about the Oilers-Bills AFC Playoff game

Didn't the Oilers have a 30+ lead going into the 2nd half, only to allow the Bills, with their backup QB, to achieve the greatest comeback in playoff history?

the french guy in the british open.

mick didnt choke. he missed a tough putt and missing it cost him the tourney. it didnt matter if he 10-putted after the miss. i hardly put him in the category of biggest chokes. geez.

I agree that Mickelson did not choke yesterday. Everyone is so quick to jump on Phil's ass when he messes up. I think it has a lot to do with jealousy.

USC's 2003 loss to Cal. Lost to a vastly inferior team and cost them a National Championship.

USC lost to CAL @CAL in triple OT with a starting QB playing his 4th college career game. You are right about one thing. The loss to CAL cost USC a unanimous national championship. But USC winning a Co-National Championship in a rebuilding year is not bad at all. ;) This year USC is expected to win the National Championship.

Totally agree with Blackman and Laythewood. Let me set the scene, its April, 1996, its a beautiful Sunday morning in Augusta Georgia. Everyones favorite Aussie, Greg Norman has a six (6) stroke lead over second place Nick Faldo as he gets ready to tee off on the final round of the Masters.

For the next four hours I watched this guy incredibly and painfully slowly lose this tournament. It was not only the biggest choke I have ever seen but also one of the slowest and most painful. It literally was hard to watch.

I simply disagreed with what KOSAR "orginally" posted on the USC subject, not me. Is that a problem? How was USC losing to CAL a choke job? It wasn't. :D

Just like how you disagreed and said mick didnt choke.:)

Runner up-

The 2002 college football season where the best team in college football history, the USC Trojans, lost two games. They petitioned for some sort of National Championship shot based on 'what should have been.' One of the best two loss teams ever. It's just that they choked against Kansas St. and Washington St.
