What does Coach K really have to prove on the college level any more? It's pretty obvious he is the best coach in the nation and has been for about the last decade. I am not much of a Duke fan and even though it is tough for a college coach to jump successfully from the NCAA to the NBA if any one can do it he can. I would not bet against that guy being a successful NBA coach if he did happen to take the job.

No I agree with you. Anyone who is truly competitive would understand that once you are the top of your game (which admittedly he is), you would want to take on the next challenge. He will always have a spot to return if he wanted it.

Look at all the college coaches that screwed up their careers by taking a mediorcre pro job.

Rick Pitino - was building a dynasty at Kentucky. Flopped in Boston

John Calipari - Built UMass into a power, leaves, UMass folds, (Calipari lucks out at Memphis)

PJ Carlisimo - Seaton Hall was becoming as powerful as a Latrel Spreewell stranglehold

Tim Floyd - Did solid job in college but no respect from Michael Jordan

You can even throw in Tarkanian, Kruger, and Hamilton. Tarkanian lasted like 20 games with the Spurs, Kruger was a bust in the ATL after 1 good year at Illinois, and Leonard Hamilton was no good in Washington. All these people were hot coaches for a year or 2 then decided to try the NBA.

Personnaly, I think Coach K moving to the Lakers would be a mistake for him....like Pete Carroll at USC learned, the high energy, enthusiastic approach can work with college kids, but will fail with the prima donna/arrogant, overpaid pro athlete. Coach K should stay at Duke where he is a legend!!!!

I guess this means Henry Bibby (USC HC) is out of the running for the Laker job. That was a complete joke his name being mentioned, especially since many USC basketball fans want Bibby fired. I guess Bibby was convenient and filled in the black quota to be interviewd. Lakers avoided a Detroit Lions mess.

If he does go, it might be a setup to expand the Duke community to the professional level. Conspiracy Theory'er's listen up:

1. Johnny Dawkins because the head coach of Duke if Coach K leaves.
2. Coach K, Dawkins and Wojo go out and recruit all the McDonalds AllAmerican players under the impression that they play 1 or 2 years for Duke then leave to play for the Lakers
3. They stay for two years go to the final four/championship game whatever
4. They go to the draft too early, get drafted late 1st round-Late 2nd round
5. Coach K trades his picks to get his players that Dawkins coaches, helps them develiop in a year or two.
6. Now with the help of previous Duke players picked up via trade ( Elton Brand, Duhon, Deng, Boozer, Dunleavy, Ferry, Grant Hill (you know he drinks Sprite , ect.. ect.. they go off and go to the final four of the NBA every year and win it every few years.
7. Dickey V retires, leaves ESPN, moves to the west coast, gets a job with Fox Sports and becomes an analyst for Laker basketball " Coach K and the Lakers are awesome baby!!!! I love JJ REDDICK!!!!!
8. Jay Bilas becomes the new Dicky V for Duke basketball
9. Quin Snyder hangs himself for leaving the Duke family and giving money to shit players at Mizzou

By the way I am a Duke fan, but if he does takes this this is a short term thing. Coach K is reaching the twilight of his career. He has had two hip surgeries, I think he has 5 years tops Coaching left in him. If he has questions about jumping to the NBA now is the time, if he fails, he fails with arguably the Yankees of the NBA, he can have the best. I personally don't think he can weather the storm and craziness that will ensue with paid 20 somethings that are millinoaires

Jay Bilas is on ESPN right now saying the Lakers are "willing to make him the highest paid coach in professional sports." Not a Duke fan at all but I would never doubt Coach K's ability to succeed if he were to take it, but Steve Spurrier kept coming to mind when I heard that.

Quick story,

So Sunday night, I am driving down I-57 about an hour south of Chicago heading to school when I pull up to a white lincoln SUV (forget the name of it) totally pimped out anyways, I am going 85 or so in the left lane, I drive up and see illinois metal plates on the bumper, I pass the SUV and here the system on the car not bad at all, look over and just briefly glance at dude on the phone. Thought it was Dee Brown of the Illinois b-ball team, so I pass him and get in the right line in front of him, and notice in the mirror on his front windshield says " D. Brown" just like that in letters on the front. Now where the hell does this bitch get this money to buy this kind of car or even loan it? He is a poor project baby from the deep inner city. Shit is crazy i know thats how it is every where but man the NCAA should look into all of these athletes and their rides, hahahahah
