Three cheers for Slimfast for standing up against the shameful behavior of their spokesperson.

Guess I'll have to start losing weight using their products :thumb:

Obviously, that tells us to boycott Slimfast products, based on Mrs. Ctownguys description of her husband which she whispered to me in bed last week, Ctown has been boycotting the same for some years now.

I don't understand why. She used no words any worse then VP Cheney on the Senate floor. Maybe we should fire Cheney. Lets not forget Cheney has used the F word two weeks ago. And ass hole last year.

Well I really dont see why folks are gettinf so upset about a grade B actress that hasn't had a good movie in over a decade uttering her feelings, isn't that her right under the constitution? Something tells me that a drug addicted felon like Rush Limbaugh will have a field day with this but whenever someone brings up his criminal past he cries foul. Let the lady speak her mind if you dont like it dont listen!

At one point in a speech mocking the Bush administration, Goldberg used his surname as a sexual reference.

I don't think anybody's denying her rights.
She just got canned. That's a private and business decision.

Good Bye Whoopi, don't forget your bottle on the way out.

Slim-Fast Sheds Whoopi Goldberg After Bush Riff

Reuters
Wednesday, July 14, 2004; 10:00 PM

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Comedian Whoopi Goldberg will no longer appear in ads for diet aid maker Slim-Fast following her lewd riff on President Bush's name at a fund-raiser last week, the company said on Wednesday.

Florida-based Slim-Fast said it was "disappointed" in Goldberg's remarks at last Thursday's $7.5 million star-studded fund-raiser at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

"Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air," Slim-Fast General Manager Terry Olson said in a statement, adding that the company regrets that Goldberg's remarks offended some customers.

Republicans have expressed outrage over the fund-raiser for presumptive Democratic nominee John F. Kerry and his vice presidential running mate, John Edwards, in which entertainers lined up to skewer the president.

The New York Post said of Goldberg's appearance at the event: "Waving a bottle of wine, she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia."

A spokesperson for Goldberg declined immediate comment.

Slim-Fast is a unit of Anglo-Dutch food-to-detergent group Unilever Plc .

Now then, on the other hand, people are a bit too uptight. I'd just do the same and mock both Kerry and Whoopie (maybe a sexual connotation here and there) :142hump: .
Most of these liberaloid acts and rants fall flat on their face anyhow.

true there is freedom of speech, but imo the vast majority of the american public (myself included) feel that respect should be given to the person who is the president, no matter the party.

i believe that wes clarke was badly hurt when michael moore called bush a draft dodger right in front of clarke. clarke's bid for the presidency wasn't doing too well before moore's remark, but his campaqign went immediately into the toilet when he didn't separate himself from moore's remark.

imo this is also going to hurt kerry. he didn't immediately separate himself from whoopie's comment. instead he said something to the fact that hollywood is speaking for the american public.

this is one of the reasons why kerry will not win this election.

mark,

i believe most of the american public want to see respect given to the person who is the president.

and i think moore's comments, & his movie & other peoples personal comments made towards bush will cause a backlash against the democrats.

and slimfast seems to agree with this assessment.

now i don't think this alone will cause kerry to lose, but it is definitely going to hurt him.

"the bunker"
the whoopster had every right to say whatever the heck she felt like....

and slim-fast had every right to show her the door.....

my guess is that slim-fast got a shit-pot load of letters from people put off by her statements.... and they decided they didn`t want her representing them....

the marketplace at work...

beautiful...

Wow, this thread is all over the place. Cheap shots about her looks, people saying that Cheney said worse, people saying that this incident could influence the election.

The bottom line is that Slimfast decided that she turned into a liability as a spokesperson as Mjolnr, GW and Nosigar alluded to. And that's that.

The Olsen twins were booted from the 'Got Milk' campaign because of Mary Kates health problems. Frankly, that pales in comparison to the Whoopi deal.

I'm not sure how anybody could actually be upset that Whoopi was fired. That's ridiculous.

But AR, i'm not quite sure how you would have Kerry 'distance himself' from her comments, unless you would expect Dubya to distance himself from every Rush, Ann Coulter, Hannity, Combs, Scarborough etal comments that come down the pike. That's not possible.

This isn't even a blip on the screen as far as the election is concerned.

Slimfast canned her purley for political reasons. That means they violated her right to free speech. It is really pretty simple and just because you didn't like what she said doesn't make it right. I don't like a lot of things being said. Right wing radio and Fox TV among others showed no respect to President Clinton yet they were allowed to stay on the public airways. If you were upset by what Whoopi said, which I have not heard by the way, then you must have be beside yourselves with anger over what Right Wing radio says about a former first lady.

kosar,

obviously a candidate cannot distance himself from every remark.but if there is an unwarrant remark toward an opposing candidate at a political function, the candidate should say something about it. howard dean once did it at one of his functions.

the question is:

why did whoopie become a liability ?

because of what i have been saying.

the vast majority of the american public want to see respect given to the president. and making the kind of remarks that whoopie said about bush is not respectful.

people on this forum may not agree with this, but this is the way it is.
