I'm sorry, but I wholeheartedly disagree with your last sentence. Alot of fine young Americans have fought and died to give me a right to not do something if I don't want to. It is not unamerican to boycott things or people if you don't believe in what they say. They may certainly have the right to say what they feel, but nowhere does it say that I have to listen to it or like it.

I have every right to boycott anything Hanoi Jane does. Whether it be a movie, book, exercise video(well I admit I did look at some of it when they were selling on TV).

I have every right to boycott Barbra S. I dont have to buy her music or pay to see anything she might be in or produced.

I don't consider that to be unamerican. If I don't like a person like these two, I exercise my rights not to assist them in their quest for fortune or fame.

That's the way I feel about it by God, and that's the way its going to be. And if you don't like where I'm coming from about this, so be it. :moon:

Stevie--you are completely wrong in your last few statements. Companies hire spokespeople in hopes that the general public will bond with them and buy their products. If, for any reason, they feel that a spokesperson is doing the opposite, then they will be canned.

I, personally, will not buy anything that Kenneth Cole makes because he is a huge Pro-choice supporter. It is MY choice to not put my dollars in his pocket. The flip-side of this is that some people may buy his products because of his stance on abortion. That's how a free market society works.

You crying about violations here really shows your ignorance of this particular subject. You are usually an intelligent poster, so we'll chalk this up as a miscue.

I know it is a matter of semantics but we are guarenteed the right to free sppech. I do not have a problem with anyone not buying a product because of a particular spokesperson or whatever. I won't buy or watch anything that Toby Keith is on. But it is not an organized boycott. For a company to say we fired her because of her politics is wrong. I am not crying about it I am just stating my opinion. Most here do not agree and that is okay.

Ricknjack maybe someday you will realize what freedom of speech is...... We are free to say what we want to say without fear of reprisal.

Maybe someday, you will realize what the 1st Amendment is about.

It has to do with the government intruding on your speech, not your boss.

Can you say whatever the hell you want anywhere you want? The answer is no. Is that hindering your right to "free speech"? No.....it is not.

Tell that to John Rocker, Jimmy "The Greek", Al Campanis, etc..........

Yes YYZ you are correct. The government cannot intrud on your speech. So I guess I was wrong. That is the price Whoopi will have to pay for not being PC. Although, I do not believe my boss can fire me simply because I say something at lunch about one political issue or another. Rocker and the Greek and Campanis were not making political statements.
