RAZ's thread below is where this idea came from... When i move back home to Memphis in January  i will be looking to start the "normal" life. I cant wait. I will have visited something like 40 countries when this is all over with. Man what an expeirence i have been blessed to have working for whom i do. I can't wait to get home and to buy a house, car, and a DOG!

Here is my ?, have any of you ever seen or owned a Vizsla. It is a hungarian pointer that is used for hunting. I am going to get one for sure, but i was curious if any of you know of any breeders or owners that i could get in touch with to ask them more questions. I am going to try and post some pics to let you know what one looks like.

hey Wareagle what do you do for a living?

Wareagle makes his money gambling and posting amusing quips and naughty pictures of fine Asian talent at MadJacks. He goes around the world to obtain only the best in humor and T&A shots.

He also does something in the cotton import/export business, probably for underwear people or something. :)

Future parents in law have one, and I get to dog sit her all of the time. I'm really considering getting one in the near future. They are the most adoring pets ever. They do need alot of attention and excercise. So if you live in an apartment you'll have to make sure he or she gets lots of excercise. They also don't take well to your leaving, so when you travel it's good to have a relative or friend to babysit at your house, as kenneling the dog can be traumatic. One of their previous Vizslas almost starved herself to death when kenneled. I can find out which breeder they used. But I guess it depends on if you want a show caliber dog, a dog to field train, or just a pet. Either way the most common negative behavioral trait seems to be extreme timidity so when you pick out the puppy make sure he or she isn't bashful.

Thanks for the reply Yak! I will have a backyard and the dog will get plenty of exercise. I am an avid hunter, so i am hoping to make it a hunter/house dog. I am not married (yet) but i hear they are also extremely good with children. It would be great if you could get me the breeder info. Get my email addy from Jack if you can get that info.

Canadian waters(summertime)
wareagle -- Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories. I had Max for 13 years, hunted with him faithfully for 12 of those years. Without a doubt the finest pheasant dog around. All my friends wanted to hunt with me (not because I'm a great guy or a good hunter) because they just loved watching him work those birds. I had more invites from farmers who wanted me to take their friends out on their property, Really did me proud. AAAAhhhh....the good ol' days. Not only are they great on upland birds but are great waterfowl retrievers as well. You do feel sorry for them in that cold water of winter with that short coat of theirs but they are relentless.(almost lost him once to hypothermia)

If you do get a chance to pick a pup from a litter I agree with Yak. They can be timid so select one that's pretty bold(like Max!) And if you're single they're great. Everyone that sees one wants to talk to you about the breed. They are so unique and rare and strikingly beautiful. This is a great opportunity with the ladies (unless they start humping her leg :) ) They really don't want to be left alone -- a lesson I learned real quick. Left ol' Max in my wife's 66 Mustang for about half an hour to retrieve some decoys and spruce up the blind -- came back and he had the ceiling ripped out of the car. We can laugh now but back then my wife couldn't figure out why I kept wanting to take the ol' bomb instead of my truck (kept trying to get estimates for repairs until one day she saw some material hanging down in the car and...) I still love her though!!

It's great you'll have a nice yard for him to exercise --- just a word of advice -- they love to dig! Keep an eye on him. Even when they do get in trouble they get out of it with their unbeatable personalities and the beauty they present. They are great with children but are a little high-strung.

Sorry I can't help with any breeder info. Thanks for letting me share :)

Nice looking dogs..congrats on your journey and have a safe return...I switched to Dogue de Bordeauxs or Olde english bulldogges (different from standard english) try Canidae food, my dogs respond well to it, all natural no preservatives...good luck on the home and pup...

Congrats wareagle. Fine looking pup you got for yourself. I like Max (of course that's a homer call reliving the splendid memories of my beloved vizsla) But consider what the word Max can mean -- short for Maximillian/a Holy Roman Emperor and an archduke of Austria (something with a flavor of royalty : also short for maximize or maximum /for the increased amount of pleasure you'll share)

I used to hunt a lot with my buddy who owned a GermanShorthair name Czar (alway liked that name too/another name referring to emperor or king)

Whatever name you eventually choose will fit him perfectly (I like Gunner also). I envy you with all the great years you have to look forward to with your new treasure. ENJOY!!! :thumb:

hey guys, i need help with a name:

here is what i have so far....

Gus, Gunner, Duke, and Gambler. Anyone have any more?

...please don't name him "Duke" - they're only a 4 seed in the Pope Brackets!!! :scared

...being in memphrica, you have to name him something so that when you call him it sounds fierce!!! :cursin: ...probably something like.... Rebel, Kafka, Voodoo, Zulu, Rawhide, Thor, Zeke, or Zombie. :mj07: :mj07:

...you obviously can't name him something like.... Ralph, Martin, Merlin, Melvin,TYLER,BRAD,TODD,SCOTTY,ZACK,DILLON,SAM,KYLER,TYLER,WYATT,MAX,JAKE...just ask beantown...okay, I threw a few in. :)

...however, I do like "Gambler" ...and "Gunner" ain't bad either.... :)
