On the course!
Here is some priceless information regarding sports wagering, that I picked up on a travel board. The original question was a guy asking if tout services are worth it. Here's one of the replies he got:

Why anyone would pay anyone for tips is beyond me because if you just put a little time and effort into football betting its almost impossible not to show a profit at the end of the season as long as you are disciplined and only bet parlays.

For example assuming the season consists of 18 weeks and you place a 4 team handicap parlay each week of say $20.00 (it could be more depending on each individual.

In England a 4 team parlay on the handicaps pays at least 10/1 odds so 18 weeks at $20.00 a bet is an outlay of $360.00.

Just 2 winning parlays out of 18 and you are guaranteed to show a profit of over $60.00 and thats only betting $20.00 a week with only 2 winning bets and if you cant get 2 winning parlays out of 18 then your not spending enough time studying the games or your stupid or very unlucky.

How many of us thought this way at one time or another in our gambling career. :wall:

That's great for you to post that a week after the games have been played!

I'll tell you what. Place your "bets" each week in a nice little thread BEFORE the games go off, and we'll see how much cash you make.

Telling people that parlays are a way to make money at sports wagering, is like telling them you have a "system" for winning at the slots. It's bad information. If you have been making money betting 4 team parlays, you haven't been playing very long.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Actually i did post my selections here in this forum Saturday evening before they began with my first bet containing 1 loser and 5 winners thus a losing parlay but i then placed my second bet of a 4 team parlay which won giving me a return of over 10-1.

I am not saying you cant lose betting parlays im just saying if you put some time into studying form, odds, trends, injuries, etc and your disciplined its not that hard to make a profit over the season.

Alas i am far from disciplined myself because as much as i bet to win i also bet for fun so often will place more than one bet simply so i can watch and/or listen to the games which make it more enjoyable but harder to show a profit over time.

But even saying that i have made a profit most years from football (soccer) here in England and from American football since i first starting betting on it about 15 years ago.

To bad i cant say the same about horse and greyhound racing but thats another story.

By the way i am 48 and been gambling since i was 12 and even worked in the gaming industry for 17 years so i think i have an idea what im talking about.

Well, I guess you should be one of those guys seeling your picks, John. You are the only person I have ever heard of winning at football over a 15 year span. Congratulations to you.

By the way, I've been a human for 40 years, it doesn't make me a humanitarian.
