with all the problems in our county today, and both candidates agreed these are "troubling times", with
terrorism
economy
jobs
health care
Iraq
environment
home Land Security etc. etc.

its undeniable morality had the biggest effect on this election. Bush s ability to drive nearly 5 million conservative Christians to the polls gave him this election. Does this concern anyone? Doesn't our constitution distinctly State Division between church & State?? With so many pressing issues should this be the overwhelming factor? And what kills me most is some that scream loudest about morals and behavior are sometimes the biggest offenders I e: (newt, Limbaugh, O'Reilly).

I actually heard one woman at a Bush rally say "I finally feel God is in the White House" nobody has a problem here? Didn't Bush himself say God wanted him to be President? As he attended rallies for the evangelistic right, quoting Bible passages.

This just seems slightly skewed to me with so many problems in our country isn't it somewhat ridiculous Gay marriage is the pressing issue.

I know most Christians are good people, I was raised Catholic and attended church the better part of my life. Until I saw the hundreds of kids abused while the church turned a blind eye with Cardinal law in Boston saying "if we prosecuted all the offenders, where would we replace the priest, there wouldn't be enough men of the cloth". WTF.

that and other little gems like church not recognizing divorces, unless you drop a couple hundred thousand like the Kennedy s them you can get a annulment. The church actually for a price has the arrogance to say that day never occurred. Quickly realized you can be religious without being church going.

As I said, I fully realize many many people are church going model citizens, hey if it works for you fantastic. But among these 5 million, isn't there the same knuckleheads that sent people like Jim and Tammy Baker there life savings??

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I'm not touching that with 10 foot pole but ---will say both sides had their driving forces--ones mans comfort is another mans fear.
That applies to both sides.

I heard this morning that some exit poll showed that people leaving the voting booths were most concerned with moral issues. Something like 22%. They are against gay marriages and partial birth abortions. Of all the issues we talk about here, the war and economy are what we discuss most. It is the same with all of the other sites I visit. Aparently there is a large moral majorirty out there.

I pretty much look at ALL organized religion as a business. A business that has interests and lobbies with them in mind as any other would.

Don't get too nervous about any business's involvement in politics. As long as you can see the activity.

Any covert agendas, religious or not, are what should be worried about.

People always think they are living in the hardest times. IMO they use religious organizations for strength and to find answers/comfort.

I have never met a religion that didn't know how to get in your pockets. I also don't like any religion telling me there religion is better then mind. I don't think we reached that point yet. When we do you will know by the shift in elections. To believe is one thing. To be crusaders is another.

guys, this is a interesting topic for me. i am very close to the pulse of conservatives. the evangelicals are, for the most part, good citizens. they do not appreciate the 10 commandmets being taken out of schools, homosexual agendas in schools, sex ed in schools, etc. they certainly have a strong feeling for crime and punishment. if kerry truly wanted to get elected he should have picked a more conservative running mate. a rich lawyer really hurt his ticket. imo

this being said, i am no fan of W. i voted for him because i did not want kerry elected. i am sad that our great country spends $$$$$ on elections when there are so many other important issues. this will never change. jmo

The exit polls were wrong because conservatives work for a living and they had to wait and go vote after work. They didn't have time to sit out at the polls at 5am like angry whining unemployed protesters.

At the risk of sounding corny: What is wrong with voting for a god-fearing, principled, conservative man whose #1 interest is the safety of our citizens. Many times he could have fired a subordinate, or take a poll to change his position to a more politically expedient one -but he didn't. W is a moral and courageous leader. Some of you may agree. Many of you are groaning, or steaming. To that second group I ask you to reflect for a second, if you believe such a man can exist? To the first group, aren't you glad we have him as our leader?

Let me flip the question on you Shamrock.
There was one area in U.S. that voted 90% Democratic--Washington DC.
Wasgton DC also leads U.S. in virtually every crime statistic known to mankind as well as aids per capita.
If you think this is an exception go to the heaviest demoratic voting counties of each state and cross reference crime and tell me what you find.

now you tell me which you feel would be the greater concern?

see all those red states?

there are a lot of people who take their religion seriously.....they see Bush who takes his religion seriously......they hear day in and day out people who demean them and their religion....

they get sick of it and the heartland of America stood up to be counted....THAT won the election for Bush.....people are sick and tired of being characterized as simpletons just because they are religious......the majority of the NE and West coast of the country cannot relate to them...

On the course!
Kerry was using the "God" card as much as any candidate I have ever seen!

But then again, Mr Waffle used every tactic he could, and still failed to get the needed votes.

An email I got from a friend of mine who doesn't post here.

"When it comes to Karl Rove, it's very difficult to dispute either part of
the phrase "evil genius". Now we have 4 more years of an already terrible
government that now has full control of the House and the Senate and is
even MORE beholden to that faction of our population that thanks the lord
and praises Jesus whenever they get a decent parking space at the local
Walmart (which was probably built at the expense of an Historic
Landmark). It makes me want to puke."

classic example of how many people just cannot relate to religious people......and the Christians are sick of this condescending attitude and showed it Tuesday

Glad to see he is trying to be a 'Uniter' not 'Divider.' He is welcome to his opinion, but the rotund pundit should at least try and be positive once in a while. At least Kerry has said its time for healing.

Yeah, and the *really* funny thing is that we grew up together and attended the catholic church together nearly every sunday for 18 years.

well use your experiences and open mind to realize that some people function a little differently and instead of constantly demeaning them try to appreciate diversity

Freeze,

I keep an open mind about everything. For instance, I would prefer to schtup Barbara Bush, but if she wasn't available I would do Jenna.
