didnt get a chance to do a lot of capping earlier in the week. was all geared up for bg/toledo game. finally went through everything and decided on these:

arizona wildcats (+14)
small shot on arizona moneyline (+450)

fresno state bulldogs (-26)

hawaii warriors (+6.5)
hawaii warriors moneyline (+210)

cats have taken baby steps this year, and i think this is the kind of game that stoops knows can set the tone for next season. if nothing else, the arizona defense has played its ass off this year, even in games where theyve been overmatched. ive seen nothing from asu to justify 2 TDs of road rivalry chalk.

fresno, on the other hand, is worth whatever chalk vegas requires them to lay right now. ill step out and say that i think theyre playing as well as anyone in the entire country the last month or so. dawgs ground game is absolutely shredding defenses right now. theyve racked up almost 1200 yds the last 4 weeks on the ground, and have done it by chunking out 6.3 yards a carry. no doubt in my mind that fresno beats boise right now in a neutral field rematch. thinks its very unrealistic to expect sjsu to match the emotion and effort they displayed in the boise game. that was the spartans one shot to shock someone. hard enough for a mediocre dog to rise up vs conference elite 2 out of 3 weeks. sjsu isnt even mediocre. theyre just grossly overmatched. while it would be storybook for sjsu to send out fritz hill with a herculean effort against their rival, i just dont see it happening.

as for hawaii, theyre simply the most night-and-day home/away team ive ever seen. theyve played well in these late-season matchups vs power conference teams. northwestern is decent, but theyre hardly a team in a hurry to lay chalk with 2000 miles from home. i think michigan state is the kind of team that can rip apart hawaii next week with their power attack when they come to the island. but hawaii should win this game against the traveling cats.

Glad to see you on Hawaii G...I think Northwestern is getting a little to much respect from Vegas after the Purdue win and keeping it close with some of the other top notch Big10 teams...But Hawaii at home is a whole new ball game and Chang will want to go out with a bang his last 2 home games IMO, since he probably wont be making it farther than a practice squad in the NFL...wouldnt be suprised to see Hawaii blow them out...

Also what do you think about Tech at home, i know you dont like fav's as I dont either, but I just dont see this Okie St program being able to keep up with Tech in a shootout, especially with a young QB...let me know what you think

texas tech is one team ive never been able to win with or against. so i offer that caveat right off the bat. when i bet on em, they look like a mediocre big 12 team. when i bet against em, kingsbury (and now cumbie) would throw for 500 yds and it would be a tech rout.

i will say that ttu on the carpet at home is damn tough to go against. other than the texas game this year, theyve been a scoring machine at home. i also dont think oklahoma state is as good as their ranking. all that being said, im staying clear of this game but yes -- i would lean to the raiders and laying the short chalk if i was forced to make a play.

Thanks for the quick reply gman...im leaning off it now as Dr.freeze is claiming a straight up win by OK St and he def knows the conference much better than I do...I was looking at your Fresno play, I think they are out to make a statement as well and their is no way St stays within 4 scores, I think its a plus that they stayed so close with Boise as people will get the perception that they will do the same with Fresno, since the public generally sees Boise as outclassing Fresno...im with you on it, gl G

you;ve seen nothing from asu to warrant a two td spread????

how about an 8 and 2 record including a 44 to 7 pounding against iowa.

the only justification of the line is the intense rivalry and it's in tucson... asu is better defensivly and obviously offensivly

bg:

well considering that redsfann (an iowa homer) wants to rip my head off because i offended him saying iowa is the 3rd or 4th best team in the big 10, i obviously dont think a whole lot of iowa or that asu thrashing of the hawkeyes (although i am happy to say that i did have asu in that game)

i will repeat verbatim what i told scott:

if asu wants respect, they can start by not getting outscored 72-7 by the only two teams that are any good in the pac10 this year.

sorry, i just dont see asu as worthy of this price.

as for arizona, two years from now, it will be the wildcats laying the points to the devils in this year-end matchup.

Hey gman,

You don't have to defend yourself one bit you are one of the coolest, nicest, most solid cappers in this forum. I always listen and anylyze what you have to say on the games. Keep on doing what you do best.

thanks for the words. really appreciate them.

although i certainly trust my read on teams and games, im not arrogant enough to think that my way is the only way to see a game. id be deluding myself. bgold has a different opinion on the game, and i can respect his vantage point. i strongly disagree with him, but it doesnt make his opinion any less valid. i think asu is a good but hardly great team. i guess we'll know at about 6 eastern tomorrow if my thoughts of asu prove correct or not, lol

btw- hope your holiday was a good one kneifl. the respect is reciprocated -- youre one of the good guys around here.

Kneifel - don't missunderstand a valid point with an attack on someone. And yes I agree gman is solid but as he very eloquently put it it's always good to hear other peoples views of a game. Having said that gman don't suppose I can talk you out of playing AZ as I see an AZ st. blow out. Arizona just doesn't have the offense to stay within two TD's of State.

Disagree on Arizona as well

Disagree on Arizona as well

Always look forward to your picks, but Zona has no offense whatsoever. Their only offensive threat, Bell, puts the ball on the ground - alot. I can't see them putting up many points on a solid defense that has played well against 8 teams not named Cal or USC including a couple destructions of other top 25 teams. Their schedule stength has been amongst the top 10 in the country. They are also not getting any respect from the polls, it's Walter's last game and a rivalry. They will be fired up to take it to the Cats.

ASU has the firepower to put alot on the board, even against a hard playing, but undertalented squad. They may keep it close in the first half, but sun devils will pull away and win by 20+, rivalry or not. I'm taking the devils and I'm taking Cats less than 17 1/2 points for the game.

If Arizona can hold Utah to 23 pts they can sure hold ASU down to a reasonable amount.............Arizona sure played USC a lot better than ASU........

hey bgold
calling asu better defensively is weak, asu #4 au #5 ranked in pac-10. they are within 1 point of each other...
offensively they score on poor offenses' but on top 2 pac-10 teams they laid an egg... sundevils are over-rated big time! this game will come down to a field goal! take the points
if wanna bet asu this weekend, take +2 on your basketball team.

i'm just posting some words of caution, you obviously think stoops is going to wave his magical wand and turn things around.

asu got thumped by sc no question about it... they also got thumped in the score by cal.. if you watched the game you would know what I am talking about... so asu has 2 losses to the number 1 and 4 ranked teams in the nation... they have 8 other wins and a 5-2 mark in the pac-10 even with missing wash in their schedule.

johnny- i am calling asu better defenively because the numbers back it up.. i personally think asu's strength is their defense. i l don't know how anyone in their right mind can call asu overrated. even if they lose to arizona they still are underrated. they have played the 2nd toughest schedule in the nation... and have 2 losses.. go bet u of a.. and if you win congrats, i just don't want to hear you say an 8-2 team from the pac-10 ranked 8th by the computers, is overrated by the polls coming in at 20! How many ASU games you watch? the ucla nad usc games? did you watch any others? and don't say cal, because I am a big cal fan and alum of cal as well and if you saw the game it was asu who beat themselves otherwise it would have been a lot closer.. not to mention the other factors in that one

this is a list of pac-10 teams scores on asu defense:
Washington State 28
Stanford 31
California 27
UCLA 42
Southern California 45
Oregon 13
Oregon State 14
these scores are from last to 1st. you can see they've gotten worse. do you really wanna call this defense a strength?
i hope you do not take this as a personal attack, i have much respect for you.
just wanna state the obvious...

The 1st and 4th best teams in the country. Give me a break. We're not an elite team (top 5) but we can handle our own, especially a 2-8 UofPew team

As a MAC conference grad straight out of Rocket Country, I've been impressed with your picks so far. Will be taking some of your picks. I really like the Hawaii pick!
What a game on tuesday. I kept telling the guys at BW's that the rockets make awesome adjustments at half...boy did they prove that!
