YALE CONFIRMS WHAT
BetCom HAS KNOWN ALL ALONG
Gambling equals Good Heath

It appears that some from the academic world now agree with what those in Las
Vegas, Atlantic City and the offshore gaming industry have known for years:
gambling is something that is good for the soul.

In a recent study conducted by Yale University and published in the American
Journal of Psychiatry, Rani Desai, associate professor of psychiatry at the
School of Medicine, concludes that there appears to be an association between
recreational gambling and good health among elderly persons.

"This definitely confirms what we've known all along in regards to our own
customer base," says Robert Evans, President of
BetCom. "Win or lose, our
clients always have a positive attitude, especially when a client can turn
$1,500 into $450,000 in sports betting, and hundreds of others turn $50 into
tens of thousands in our casino.

"We know for sure that many of our clients are extremely happy, and as the
study said, healthier," adds Evans. "Plus with our particular business model,
our clients can only wager with money that they can afford to lose - if that
happens to be the case."

Evans says their clients are smart enough to set aside only a certain amount
of money for gambling, and they make the most out of the experience. He adds
that this experience is not so much focussed on winning or losing, but rather
on the entertainment value.

In the study, Desai and her co-authors go on to state that although the
underlying reasons remain hypothetical, proposed explanations for this
increase in mental health are attributed to the increased activity,
socialization and cognitive stimulation while engaged in gambling. "Such a
mechanism would be consistent with the literature on healthy aging, which
indicates that more socially and cognitively active elders are, in general,
healthier," Desai adds.

The Gambling Impact and Behavior Study by Desai and her colleagues compared
the health status of recreational gamblers who had gambled in the past year,
with persons who had not gambled. Their health, which was self-reported, was
measured according to a number of to alcohol use, abuse and dependence;
substance abuse and dependence; depression; mental health treatment;
subjective general health; incarceration and bankruptcy.

Evans says that this is good news for a number of groups, including Las Vegas,
which is experiencing unprecedented growth, Atlantic City, which is now
considering adding sports betting to their casinos, offshore-based internet
gaming sites, and possibly even the US health care system. "We could see a
decrease in medical expenditures to our elderly if the US government would
wake up and see that gambling, when operated professionally and with the
clients welfare in mind, can have a positive impact in ways even we never
thought of," adds Evans.

Those figurres from that book are bullshit, chances of pulling that off are like 1 and 1 million, He I do this for a living and Jeri has been a resort ex on strip for over 20 years.

You can beat a book but very few do, but don't give me that bs 50 into 10 grand casino bullshit. I know way more then some of you think on ins and outs of megas resorts.

You should be ashamed for even putting up such bs. Trtust me I don't care which set of books they bring out here to show me , you don't take 50 bucks and turn it into 10's of thousands, let alone saying hundreads have done that. Just lost major creditably by that bs story, the floor makes and made vegas slots , table games and viedo poker. That is what built these new mega resorts from the early 90's till now.

Unreal someone would say that. Sorry been around this way to long from the inside. Know way more about the goings on of a mega resort then most and that does not happen, 1 maybe 2 will take 50 and turn it into a few grand but that happens maybe to 3 people out of 100,000 who play each day. Check with gamming control on stats.

danmurphy jr.

simply put.....I couldn't agree with you more.

This article, which was written by a sportsbook, reminds me of a few of my favorite expressions:

"Throw any stats against a wall and a few are bound to stick."

"People see what they want to see, hear what they want to hear, and believe what they want to believe."

"You can put perfume on a pig, but it will still be a pig."

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go dip into my grandson's college fund so I can bang that UNC/GT OVER tonight!

There are over 15 suicides each month in vegas casinos/resorts, you never hear that and also there is at least 30 people die a week out here in the casino or there room and that is never talked about, heart attack, to much booze and staying up 46 hours as soon as you get here, drugs to keep you going, there is not a day goes by where some one does not bite it at one of the casino or megas resorts, The best part they take them down the service elevtors in the back and out the basement where no one sees.

Fletch....

just saw your post...

Right you are!
This guy talks about the roses, not the thorns. And there are very few roses, and many more thorns.

I don't think it was wrong for IE2002 to post it. He and Jack run the site and do an excellent job, as we all know.

But I agree, this sportsbook just lost some credibility with me as well. Do they think we all just fell off the truck yesterday?! Who is this article intended for? I hope that not one person here at MJ's actually believes this garbage.

I'm going to take it for what it's worth: everybody's money is green. They want yours, mine, ours here at MJ's, and the eldery's.
After all, we all have a great chance to turn 50 bucks into tens of thousands.
I think this author's great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was involved in the gold rush in the 1800's.

Fletcher could tell you las vegas stories that would curl your hair. I cleared the service with a gunship crew who had seen it all. They took jobs as armed security guards at major casinos and lasted about 6 months

LOL---Madjack

I figured this article was posted by you or IE2002 for "entertainment" rather than "scientific information."

I just want to make something clear: I have never used this sportsbook, but if it is posted on this site, then it must be very good.
When I say "this book just lost some credibility with me", this has nothing to do with their customer service, payouts, lines, etc.....
I'm just saying that I can't believe that this particular sportsbook representative would want a "Disneyland" article like this posted on the best and sharpest handicapping website in the world.
It just makes them look bad, in my opinion. It insults my intelligence...(and my IQ score ain't that high in the first place).
Again, nothing against their operation, but sadly, I'm afraid some people (not from this site of course) will believe this type of P.T. Barnum tomfoolery.

The idiot tax

The idiot tax

A friend of mine knows 4 or 5 people that have won the state lottery. We are always hearing about the chances of getting hit by lightning are better than the chances of hitting this six number lottery. He likes to tell us to ask winners how many times they have been struck by lightning. :)

I guess you all summed it up, but i would think gamblers have a higher rate of alcoholism, tobacco/drug abuse etc because for most gambling is in some part an addiction (no matter how many people try to deny it, for 90% imo it is).
