On the course!
I don't see how the players can negotiate with the league. The union's rules should prevent anyone other than the assigned delegates to negotiate a settlement. (That's how most unions work, right?)

Vanished into vortex
YYZ, at the end of the day Goodenow works for the players, the players do not work for the union. I am not going to say I know the law word for word since two countries and jurisdictions are involved, but the members of the union, the players in this case, should be given the opportunity to vote if that was in fact the owners FINAL offer, and I am pretty sure that will still have to take place before an impasse can be declared. Goodenow was hired to represent the players, they can fire him just as well.

Personally I am hearing all kind of rumors about what is and is not happening even today, but I honestly think it is now over for this season, and I did not think that after Bettemans announcement yesterday, but 24 hours later it seems dead in the water. The owners offer will only get worse for the players from here on out, it will be a long and ugly process and the union had to know there would be repercussions from canceling the season. The players will be worse off on the other side of this so hatching out a 13th hour deal is not out of the question, highly unlikely, but not out of the question.

owners did plenty wrong. they expanded into markets that care little for hockey.

why go from 21-30 hockey teams, it was to get a bigger US TV deal. look at the deal they got, it reflects the poor ratings in the US.

I mean where do you think are better markets for hockey Quecbec city, Winnipeg, or Carolina Phoenix Florida

When Carolina made it to the semi finals they did not sell out the first game they played at home....what is that.

when they did sell out they made a point to tell the viewer, would you even have to mention that in the Toronto market.

as for ticket prices they will drop when they come back, they have to but the owners are just as greedy as the players.

want proof look at ticket prices for the leafs the last ten years, they will charge the highest amount they can.

the players should have dropped the bs about no cap, far sooner.
I mean one was at $42 the other at $49.

could not both sides come in at $45 in the middle for the next 3-4 years.

owners and the players both deserve each other, will watch university hockey for $11. good hockey.

will not see real nhl hockey unitl dec 05 jan 06.

by the way replacement players is not the solution as some markets are almost impossilbe to use them ie: Vancouver, Montreal.
also it wind up in the courts for months......then the lawyers will have them wish they both settled for $42 millon.

agree Bobby orr would make a great commish, he is smart enough to know the headaches involved.

hockey has to get back to their orginal markets, I have a younger cousin who lives in Minnesota he told me when Detroit won the cup. his high school class "was going to see some guy called Brett Hull with some cup." I knew then hockey was in trouble.

thanks

Personally, I think the season's over. It's too late. I'm disappointed and devastated.

Here's what I've found and heard on radio shows so far. Take it with a grain of salt......

Anson Carter on Toronto radio said 42.5mil cap should have been enough for the players to vote

Shanny declined an interview with Detroit radio station, citing "important ongoing talks"

Tkachuk going on radio blasting JR for speaking out and partly responsible for dividing the Union

ESPN contacted the NHL regarding pulling out of TV contract for the 2005-6 season due to this season being cancelled

Newsday, Kevin Lee on Team1200 , Team590, and other stations reporting a group of players (450 strong) with high end agents putting together a proposal to present to Goodenow in hopes that he will turn it over to Buttman to save the season (don't see Goodenow doing that, although it's probably the only way to save his job)

More later, gotta run
