Not to answer your literal question, but am curious of some of your opinions (IE, ddubs etc) who I know play NHL a lot. What do you think about the effects of the lockout on games to be played when they start...from a wagering standpoint. Who will be in the best shape...defense or offense. Will the NHL play their bluff of less clutching/grabbing, cutting down on neutral zone trap etc to favor high scoring fan friendly games (over etc).

Any thoughts...since to me the season starting looks inevitable.

actually saint just asked you in above post same quest......
how can we base anything on goalie patterns or whatever, etc, etc.

i have a couple good theories, but nothing concrete at this point..

thinks will throw it out the window this season, unless i come with something very strong and of course will post it here right on madjacksports if i do...

yeah, at least if they get a deal in place now next year will progress as normal. if not, it will kill at least the early part of next year which presents the same problem for us.

Just a thought, and take it for what its worth, but the NHL is basically dead in the US. I have no personal opinion on the matter. IE summed it up best. Like him and others I get no enjoyment out of watching hockey, but I have made some pretty good dough on it on the past. Not disrespecting anyone who does like hockey, just a difference of opinion.

My stupid, but maybe grounded theory is that the NHL absolutely has to make hockey exciting for the casual observer to watch. I'm not saying anything is fixed or nothing, but it wouldn't suprise me to see more goals. The game has to open up a little bit. The only way the casual viewer is going to care is if it is high scoring. This will probably offend old-schoolers and the like, but they desperately need to increase scoring to make the game exciting for the average joe.

My guess is overs will hit at a pretty good clip early heading into the playoffs, then they can get back to the grinder games.

I golfed with a ex nhl player way back last summer......

well, actually.....he golfed and and i met him in the clubhouse afterwards....his name was BOBBY ORR......

i thought after talking to him way back then for 2 hours .....this son-of-bitch should be the commish of the NHL the way he was talkin......anyone else feel that way looking at things sorta now.....this guy has a pulse on the biz world(very successful what he does)---he relates to the players very well---youth also---why not......

just wondering.....

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
well, just thinking outloud...

well, just thinking outloud...

I like betting unders.

28 game season means it'll be positioning for playoff spots for the most part. Defense. And defensive corps should be stronger after long layoff than offensive lines.... I'll look for which NHL goalies been doing well of late in the other leagues....

look and think and search hard about some early trends before books/bettors catch up with them---lines for first dozen games will be crazy guesswork.

any thoughts? who has experience betting shortened seasons in any sports that may be applicable?

my inital thoughts also TR, agree

but will it be 4.5 with juice???

i think our standard curve is going to be 3-5 games utmost.

linesmakers will have no advantage if reseach is done right as a player.....reminds of early afl days....lasted 2 gms.

Thanks, NorthWest. Probably won't bet much on hockey this season (if there is one). Maybe once in a while if I see something really strong. This maybe the first time in many years that I will be watching hockey just as a FAN. As IE, TR, and others said, gonna be hard to find an edge with the shortened season. Any angle you find, you're probably gonna be dead on, or dead wrong. For me, there's too many variables. Teams are gonna have players that haven't played competitive hockey mixed with the ones playing in Europe, AHL, Russia. Then there's the visa problem. Will take alot of effort in research just to sort that all out. Anyways, we're not there yet.

Latest update: supposedly they are only 1.5mil apart, and that's with a very significant concession on the PA's part. So if Buttman doesn't budge on his offer, and the season's cancelled. Then I will be convinced that his primary objective in this mess is to BREAK the Union. He will probably successfully accomplish it, but he will also undoubtedly DESTROY hockey and the league.

1/2 hr to go??

This is going down to the wire, boys and girls. The deadline's passed. Buttman press conference at 1pm est.

Daly's issued a statement that "the season's not over, we're considering options"

I was confident yesterday, but 50/50 today. Just can't fathom an entire season without hockey, maybe more. :sadwave:

But remember, the NHL MUST make another offer, otherwise there will be NO GROUNDS for an Impasse.

I think it's gonna be 44 right before the press conference, and the PA will have to take it.
