If anyone has the opportunity to take a look at Lute Olson's comments regarding this on sportsline, its worth a look. Here's the part that is the most interesting to me and shows just how ignorant announcers like Dicky V are when they say Reddick is the best pure shooter over everyone else including Salim Stoudamire:

"There's a bit of information that (our publicist) shared with me about Redick being the greatest shooter in the country," Olson began. "If he hit 71 consecutive field goals, he'd reach Salim's field-goal percentage shooting. If Redick made 53 consecutive 3-pointers, he'd tie Salim for 3-point field-goal percentage. How in the world can somebody continue to go on TV and say Redick is the greatest shooter in the country?"

Salim Stoudamire is the best pure shooter in the country end of story.

You are absolutely right Nickel! That kid shoots lights out. Watched him play a couple of times this year and he is unbelievable from 3 point land. J.J. can shoot but not like this kid.

Yes they are Charles and NOBODY seems to see it! It's amazing. Tonight Stoudamire increased his lead further:

7-14 FG
4-6 three pointers

Reddick:

7-17 FG
3-8 three pointers

What's amazing is Reddick had a great night compared to his normal percentages. But they don't even compare to what Stoudamire has done the ENTIRE season.

never mind....the best shooter in the history of college bball is ranked about 95th in three point fg percentage this year but he's only that low because the acc is a tough conference and jj NEVER gets any open looks...nobody else in the history of college hoops ever played in a tough conference and none of them were ever guarded.

Can you imagine what Pistol Pete Maravich could have averaged with 3 point shots? His records will never be broken , yet had a completely different set of rules.

I know its off the track of the thread, but wanted to tip my cap to the ol pistola.

to me, you cant go wrong with either player.

theres no doubt that stoudamire doesnt get the credit he deserves as a player because he is a bigtime talent, but he has himself to blame for a good deal of it.

the fact that stoudamire is so temperamental certainly hurts him in the eyes of not just the media, but in the eyes of those who dont see him play night in and night out but have read of his antics and borderline selfish attitude.

i do, however, think it would be more appropriate to laud stoudamire and push for the recognition he deserves as opposed to discrediting what redick has done. theres no doubt that with the game on the line and a big shot needed, redick is at the top of my list as to who i want with the ball. and of course right up there on that short list is stoudamire.

two very good players.

white kid from duke with a (publicly) impeccable reputation

compared with a black kid from arizona who is perceived as a me-first player.

reality of it is that the media will always prop up the former before the latter. part of that is right. part of that is wrong.

To be honest, I don't even see how you can say Redick is better than Plavich from UNCC. They are the same player. I would probably take Plavich myself.

This whole JJ Redick is the greatest shooter ever, greatest free throw shooter who ever lived, blah, blah, blah is just ****ing total bullshit. If you buy into this, you are a complete idiot.

Redick is a nice player. He's limited. There are other good shooters out there. Period.

But don't you think that Riddick is a NBA caliber player with his 3 points shooting and will go in
top ten in draft ?

I got to think so watching him over the last two years.

To me Reddick is the Tom Brady of NCAA basketball...The guy never puts up big stats, always gets his ass kissed by the all the announcers, and is called "mr. clutch", like both are...to me Reddick some how gets a fire up his ass and hits shots when his team really needs him too...Salim is a SOLID player and I love watching him play, especially being a PAC-10 guy...but I really do hate how players who perform well all year are put 2nd on the list to guys who only play when it matters (Brady and ReddicK), because the other guys work their asses off all year to watch some guy decide to play lights out in a game or 2, or in the last 3 mins like Reddick does
