this is a 100% bunt situation in my opinion, managers are simply afraid to give the bunt sign to their stars. When you bunt, here is what happens 95 % of the time.
If you get the bunt down, the next hitter will be walked to set up a double play, it puts more pressure on the pitcher to throw strikes, he doesn't want to walk a run in or load the bases, though a pitcher with good command can decide which of the next two hitters he wants to face. Always play for 1 run late in games, not the big inning. Drives me nuts when the manager can't make the correct decisions. Being a Cubs fan, I see qustionable decisions nearly every night. don't get me wrong, Dusty's teams win games, but he leaves a lot to be desired with his in-game managing.
