going to court on the 11th to fight a speeding ticket...just wondering if any madjackers have any helpful tips :)

I know the laws are a bit different from province to province or state to state....but some "general tips" would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

Some guy was promoting a book on fighting tickets on Howard Stern on Thursday or Friday. I forget what it was called but some of what he said sounded somewhat legit. You may want to see if you can find it at a bookstore or something.

I'm the king of this one. How fast? Do you have anything else on your record recently? Where was it and what type of cop? In other words was it in some podunk county and this was a state cop? Need more info.

Here is the most paiinless way to fight a ticket. Call an attorney, peel off 2 or 3 benjamins, send those with the ticket to him or her, and forget about. Its not worth the hassle to try and fight it. If you go in there solo, the judge isn't going to like the fact that you aren't paying one of his lawyer buddies to get it takin care of. They will get it reduced to some sort of non moving violation and you probably won't even have to go to court, and if you lose, you will have points on your driviing record, you will have a fine and court costs, and you will be frosted that you lost.

Good Luck whichever route you take.

My dad is a cop and he says some guys will actually find out when the last time the cops speed gun has been calibrated. If it hasn't been calibrated once a year, than the judge will take that into consideration. Or another one is that if you haven't seen a speed limit sign within so many miles.

wow guys........great advice.........appreciate all the input.

and to answer some of your questions.....

ticket was here in the city....not out in the country somewhere....and nothing on my driving record........

I will keep all the madjackers updated as to what happens...court date is Monday July 11th in the afternoon.....

and Captain.....your probably right about the lawer.....but I'm too much of a cocky prick...I think I can do everything myself...I'm going in on my own....might cost me bigtime....but we will see....should be fun!!

in some provinces...yes

yours???? cuz if so, it's what you'll get, and it's the only way to go :)

likely, you'll pay the cost to go to the school which is roughly the same cost as the ticket, but it keeps it off your record which is KEY.

I fought may last ticket.(wasn't a speeding ticket lane usage)I was amazed after pleading not guilty the the D.A. talk to all the not guilty after the court room cleared out. He offer me just court cost of 35 bucks or instead of a 95 I took it.

speeding ticket

wish i saw the thread earlier...
- personally i would of gone back to the court and asked to change the court date and once changing the court date, only chance is that if that cop does not show on the NEW DATE as maybe he never put it on his calender etc..
that is what i would of recommended as if the cop is not there,,YOU WIN
