wish i saw the thread earlier...
- personally i would of gone back to the court and asked to change the court date and once changing the court date, only chance is that if that cop does not show on the NEW DATE as maybe he never put it on his calender etc..
that is what i would of recommended as if the cop is not there,,YOU WIN

I got a speeding ticket a few years ago in Houston and did exactly what bases said above. It's true... If the cop doesn't show up, you win.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, kick.

Wish I saw this earlier too. Bang on on fighting every ticket.... and if the cop doesn't show up, you get off with nothing. That's happened at least twice to me. I actually had one cop write me a ticket and then she says "Make sure you fight this in court. I plan on being on vacation when your court date comes up. Make SURE you fight it", and she points at the instructions on the back for disputing it. I was pretty shocked a cop would actually do that. I guess she was just making her quota for the month and wanted to do me a favor. Sure enough, court date comes and she's not there... :)

The whole "you're not paying a lawyer so we're going to make it tough on you thing"...I don't think that applies here in Canada. I've never witnessed that kind of an attitude. Seems to me if you are articulate, polite, respectful and well-dressed that's all they really want. It doesn't hurt to kiss a little ass for a couple minutes either. :D
