You made the right call Sun, 11 hrs. from 610 to cypress rosehill on 290 that drive typically takes 25 min. with no traffic (for those who don't live in Houston). Bumper to bumper N bound on 45 for 100 miles north of beltway 8.

I went 290 from my home in Champions.

Took 2 hours to go first 10 miles

2 hours for next 30 miles.

The was able to haul ass to Austin except for a little shit town (Giddings) that has 3 traffic lights and took an hour to gert through

Then to Austn and up to Dallas.

So I circumvented the I 45 mess.

Bu I am hearing now 15 hours plus to get to Austin

talked to my brother-in-law about an hour ago, I'm not real familiar with the area. He left at 3am from Highlands, he is now in Conroy, traffic is just brutal. Have another sister-in-law who turned around and came back home. gonna get some sleep and maybe try it again... not a good situation...

At his point getting on the road is worse than staying. I think I probably left at about the right time - 11pm last night -(unless of course I had left 2 days earlier on a hunch). But traffic was absolutely brutal. On top of it all I hit morning rush hour when I got to Dallas.

Some pictures I took from the road out of our subdivision that goes to the 290 feeder (a little west of cypress/rosehill) BTW I have never seen it like this (unless they have lanes blocked or something) It's been like that since about noon yesterday Homedog..you would not recognize it my comfy country home is now urban sprawl..it caught up to us.

glad you guys got out safely.

what's the plan for going back? i know that depends on a lot of things but off the top of your head what do you think?

rush back when you're permitted?

have someone check your place and hang loose for a couple weeks?

i can't imagine.

good luck with everything.

Problem is the computer models show the storm coming in then maybe backing up over Houston. And maybe stalling. In 2001 a tropical storm did that and dropped 32 inches of rain.

So that is the biggest issue. Else go back Monday when it should have cleard. I am not rushing. Going when it is safe. Plenty of latitude at the office. Of course, when is everyone else going and what will they do about traffic . Might have to go hours out of the way to get back around.

My house SHOULD be fine. Upscale area, gated, and shouldnt flood. The issue is trees and my whole house sems to be glass. I know some folks staying so they can check for me. And brother is a cop.

I have not left my problem is the in-laws and extended family are now @ my house and I think 5-6 day of living with my mother in law is going to be worse than dealing with Rita. Going to ride it out and if all the house goes to hell blaze to Austin with the family and catch the next flight to the west coast, my family is there. Similar to Sun in regards to the type of neighborhood and many of Harris County/Houstons finest live within a stones throw, however our block captain bailed this morning LOL.

Sun, I went thru Allison in '01 and remember it being brutal. I heard the same thing this morning about the storm stalling once it hit landfall. Best of luck up in Dallas, and if you need anything, just let me know. Email is screenname @ hotmail. I'm 45 mins away in Fort Worth and have a couple of bedrooms open if things get too crowded. That goes for any MJer or family. Best of luck with the situation.

Rod,

Been thinking about you. Me and my uncle shot down to Rockport last night to tighten down the place. It was a ghost town when we headed out late this morning...most houses and businesses were boarded up and most folks were already outta there.

I'm hearing on the radio that it's taking around 19 hours from Houston to Austin, ouch! I'm in New Braunfels now but if you need a place to hunker down, give me a shout and we'll help out any way possible...512-845-0476.

Good luck to you and the fam. Talk to you soon!

Yes, it is amazing how it has grown. And there is no sign of slowing down either.

Glad you made it out Suntzu. Unreal what is going on down there. Saw on the news cars were moving at 3 mph on the freeways out of houston. Hell I can walk faster than that. Hope that thing keeps moving. You got a Hurricane play for this weekend? Seriously good luck.
