They're saying the same thing as the national guys. Pretty much that it will land a Cat 3 somewhere between here and Naples. The schools are closed in Lee and Collier counties tomorrow so they can turn them into shelters. If it keeps like this, i'll probably head to Clearwater Beach or Tampa tomorrow sometime, but I definitely want to make sure I beat the rush if I go. Last thing I want is to be stuck on 75 for 12 hours.

Here is the latest local advisory:

1. Hurricane Wilma is now a Category 4 hurricane.

2. Lee County is under a State of Local Emergency at this time.

3. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is at Level 2 (Partial Activation) as of 8:00 AM today.

4. Hurricane Wilma is located near 18.3 N and 85.0 W. Present movement toward the West-Northwest (295 degrees) at 8 mph, with maximum sustained winds near 150 mph.

5. Lee County is not currently under any Watches or Warnings. We remain in the 3-Day Forecast Error Cone.

6. Lee County Public Schools will be closed Friday October 21, 2005.

7. Persons receiving this notice should monitor forecasts closely and be prepared to take protective actions should Watches and or Warnings be issued for our area.

8. Municipalities within Lee County are issuing or may issue Voluntary Evacuation Orders starting at various times. Lee County Emergency Management supports these decisions, but reminds everyone that no shelters are open at this time.

Jeez, even up there huh? I guess it wouldn't take much of a change of path to steer 125 miles north. Especially since it hasn't even started moving east yet.

Watching the locals here, they are not sure of anything or where it will go.

Guess people just panic.

Computer models show all sorts of different paths.

Yeah, and it's still 3 days out. When Ivan last year was three days out, they had it coming straight through Ft. Myers and it hit the panhandle.

And for Charley just a day before it hit, they had it hitting up near you as a Cat 1 and then it took a right turn and hit us down here as a Cat 4. So who the hell knows.

I was supposed to fly into Ft. Myers today, and leave Sunday for a wedding at Tween Waters. The bride and groom decided to move it to Gainseville instead where they live. Couldn't see trying to fly into Tampa, not to mention a $625 ticket as an improvement and Jacksonville had no flights. Tween Waters is keeping our $225 deposit for our room because they say the hurricane won't land until Sunday. That is B.S. They say there hasn't been a hurricane warning issued, and that is their policy. Damned Crooks. Anyway stay safe.

kosar,

IMO

watch the national broadcasts, i.e. weather channel.

I wouldn't rely on locals, too much agenda.

When steve lyons said get out, I was out of new orleans, THAT night.

Good Luck

Thanks guys.

Doughboy,

That's a bunch of bullshit. Tween Waters, of all places, should understand about this. They got EXTREMELY lucky during Charley. The largest and most luxurious resort on Captiva Island, 'South Seas Plantation', still has not re-opened after 15 months. South Seas is just down the road from Tween Waters but Tween Waters had very minor damage. That's a horrible attitude. They're penalizing you for not wanting to ride out a probable hurricane on a fvcking barrier island.

Lawrence,

Thanks, yeah, I hardly watch local news to begin with and I definitely don't rely on those guys for predictions. As it's going on, they're very useful for current conditions over the radio, but not for predictions.

On the course!
Good luck down there. My folks made reservations up in Georgia if they have to scoot.

I hope no one has to evacuate........

Did you put it on a credit card? Dispute the charge if you think they are trying to screw you. Then write a letter to the credit card company and the merchant explaining your position on the matter. Your credit card company will usually side with you. That's what I always do when someone is trying to screw me. It works.

Matt: You still leaving or riding it out???

Yeah Tom, gonna ride it out. Hopefully it doesn't strengthen. It's no prize as it is right now, but a 3 or 4 would not be good. As early as thursday, through yesterday, 75 was a parking lot from here to Sarasota. Apparently the traffic isn't that bad right now, but i'm just gonna stay put. Thanks.

Agent,

They gonna have anything special going on on November 4th? I'm coming up there late on the 3rd and there's a small chance i'll have the 4th free.

I wonder if Matt has any electricity. Winds here around 35MPH and raining like crazy. The local ABC News has crews in Ft Myers, Naples, Miami, and a few other places but it's still dark and hard to tell.

I'm sure if he has power, he will be online soon.

Keep us posted Bro!
