Cant make my mind up which to go with in my new house. Have a designated media room, that will mainly be used for sports and movie viewing. So which satellite would you go with, DISH or DIRECTV?

You can still get Dish with FTA. Google VIEWSAT and you will find out everything you need to know. Do Not go with a Pansat...there is more/and better support for the Viewsat. It is real easy to set up and well worth the $200 for the box. It should be running for awhile thanks to some smart people figuring how to get around the N2.

Here is a site if you want more info.

Dont have to register..just go to the forums.

the website is AL7BAR.TC

I would suggest the fortec lifetime ultra. You can get everything from free pay per views to ALL local channels including Chile if you so desire

Let me see if I'm making sense of what you guys are talking about in this thread...

I currently have a Dish Network 500 system. I pay for the 120 channel package and the HBO package.

With these receivers that are listed here, what channels will I get? I'm most interested in the pay-per-views, rather than the rest of the movie channels. All you'd have to do is watch a few movies and a couple of UFC cards and they are paid for.

FDC--

you say I can get the pay-per-views with that receiver you mentioned. Do I need to do anything other than hook it up? And, does it need to be re-programmed like the rouge DTV cards do?

Redsfann,

You will get hundreds of channels and you get around not having the NFL package because you should be able to get out of town Fox and CBS channels. If you currently have your dish up and working it's not very difficult to swap it out!

No you cannot run AVR's on Direct Tv cards at this time since no one has cracked the new generation cards for over two years. besides, Direct TV will sue you if they find any paper trails of you buying equipment from illegial companies unless you can prove that you bought the equipment for hobby purposes. The last thing I saw on Direct TV lawsuits was that the people they were suing had banded together and filed calss action lawsuits against Direct TV in Colorado and Cali but that was a few months ago.

Dont mess with it just get direct tv that way you will know you have everything. The packages are not that expensive, cfb-cbb are like $120 ea , nba and mlb are $180 and ticket is a little more expensive but not much, i dont know how much the hockey or soccer packages are i dont subcribe either of them.
