taz....thanks!!!! rather than bothering jack, two other options...... my e-mail addy is in my profile. if you mail me, post here that you did so i can check my filtered mail.... other option (which IMO is easier for a question answer session) is if you have MSN messenger, try adding the same e-mail addy that is in my profile to your list. (fair warning, i got LOTS of *what if* questions.....LOL)

Sorry no MSN messanger, only AOL messanger. Sent e-mail to your hotmail account, should be able to pick it up by subject.

After buying a place, I've saved every single receipt I bought something with this year and records of all payments written. Hope it helps with my taxes because last year I owed $2,500 - got paid off quickly but royally sucked. Now I'm kicking myself because I know about a few more things I could have written off but never did in years past.

guys, the questions i'm asking are simpler than the stuff you're thinking about, cuz i had a whole $125 in taxable income this year....LOL (that's IF i don't have to claim the selling of my house) so i'm just wondering who i should give the deduction for the kids to since i can't take it....LOL)

If you sell your house are you going to move somewhere else Annie? Or are you going to stay where you're at. Just wondering, because there are a lot of nice places to live around you. I know it was great for me to get out of Nebraska 6 years ago, best thing that ever happened to me - met my wife and made a lot of new friends, realized who my true friends were that I left behind but I still visit. Small towns suck, too many clicks everybody knows your business.

if you lived in your house for 2 years, as your primary residence, there are NO TAXES owed, period. it doesn't even get reported. thank Clinton for that one.

thanks jack....that was what i was hoping for on question # one (capital gains taxes do not apply since it was my 12 year residence) guess that for sure means i don't need to file taxes at all this year, so now all i have to figure out is who to give the kids to.....LOL

Jon, i sold my house in Minnesota in March and moved back to Iowa and into my dads house. my sole means of income this year were proceeds from the sale, minimal child support, and half of an unemployment check.... just trying to make sure that is was a LOCK that i wasn't required to file taxes this year.

i'm definitely not a tax expert and, like i said, i hate the subject, but you have children and you might be able to claim some kind of unearned income credit which could be substancial.

somebody please correct me if i'm wrong.

I think you have to file no matter what your tax situation is.

Otherwise they will send someone to take your first born son and hold him for colateral until you do. May have to take his baseball bat also.

jack, it's an EARNED income credit (unfortunately) and i have no earned income on the year..... that is why i'm wondering if my dad can claim the kids on his taxes.

and Scott....... if you promise it's the firstborn they take, i'll never file taxes again...LOL ;)

teenage daughters piss me off :D :cursin:

Jeez, sorry to butt in but I almost fell off my chair when I read the above. The exemption is $250,000 single tax payer or $500,000 married, can be taken unlimited times only qualification is primary residence living there minimum 2 years.

Use to be one time lifetime exemption of $125,000. (thanks to Democrats tax plan)

AND IT WAS CHANGED BY REPUBLICAN CONGRESS TAX REFORM BILL NOT F******* CLINTON.
