i've been an ambassador for a couple of years. I get stuff in the mail periodically. This year they sent me Christmas cards, envelopes, address labels to send out. I've also received the glasses and stirrers seen in the pic, a t-shirt, and a visor.

I also got an email about 2 months ago that my barrell was filled. Now I only have to wait 8 years for it to age. It has my last name and my wife's maiden name on it (which is also my son's name).

I'm just glad that I wasn't actually drinking Maker's when I read it at 8:15 am!

Just started to develop a taste for Jack on the rocks. Can someone explain the difference b/w bourbon and whiskey. Is it the whole kentucky thing? Is there any other difference in how it's made/how it tastes.

Would I enjoy makers if i like jack?

Bourbon is a whiskey made of at least 51% corn. Pretty much all of it is made in Kentucky. It is just another type of whiskey (like canadian, scotch, irish etc.).

Jack Daniels fits the bill by the corn definition, but isn't made in Kentucky. Additionally it goes through it's signature maple charcoal filter that changes the flavor. So it really isn't bourbon in the traditional sense.

I can't see anyone liking Jack daniels, but not liking Makers Mark. Jack seems to be a love it or hate it drink, but Makers Mark is just quality bourbon hands down. It is relatively unique in that it's 45% alcohol (most other Kentucky bourbons are 40%), and of course it is small batch "hand made".

Damn, I wish I wasn't at work right now. :mj14:

I played Golf (allegedly) with the guy that is one of the owners in the company that does the wax for the Makers Mark bottle. Pretty sweet gig.

I was at the liquor store tonight and asked about something I saw a special on TV the other night, Apple Jack. He sold be a bottle of Laird's which is supposedly the premium of this...? I haven't cracked it open. Anyone else drank this stuff?

Also, he knows I'm usually strictly a bourbon guy, so he was hyping the hell out of Bulleitt Bourbon. Anyone had this stuff, yet? He says it's an extremely old recipe, but some guy brought it back into the limelight a few years back.

Always interested in sipping on some new bourbons!

Won't stop me from buying it but out of curiousity how much is a fifth of makers? About the same as Jack?

I took a liking to Tequila after living in Mexico and don't hesitate at buying don julio. I guess there's a big difference. If I'm drinking it to get canned with some guys I'm down with anything but if I want a glass to enjoy it's worth plunking down the extra coin IMO.

Makers might be 10-20% more spendy than Jack, I think? But shit, ur getting no value if your buying fifths. Bulk is where it is at. As I always say a pint a day keeps the doctor away.

Did anyone else see that magazine insert/advertisement about 2 years ago from Makers Mark that had a free Red Wax style drink coaster?

Dude speaking of Mexico, I had some interesting Mexican Whiskey a few years back. It had a very wheat-ish flavor too it, but was actually pretty smooth. Wish I remembered the name, but was worth trying just on novelty alone.

AND speaking of apples. A local bartender introduced me to something that has popular locally the past year (perhaps it has made the rounds in other communities previously).. a "Washington Apple" It consists of 1 part Crown Royale, 1 part Cranberry juice, 1 part Apple Pucker.... it "tries a bit too hard" for me, but is worth a try. The cranberry and apple puker kinda cancel each other out in nastyness.

And finally, dawgball: I read an article a few years ago that San Franciso per capita leads the league in both bookstores and bars. Don't know what to infer from that, but I like the sound of it!

OK enough drunkin ramblin' for one night.
