i just received this e-mail & thought that some might enjoy it...

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the
bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good. and while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

I do believe the invention of the "BABY ON BOARD" sign was the beginning of the end to our great society. Every parent who displayed this pathetic 80's monicker should be ashamed.

product of the 50's remember alot of this though I've never ate a worm unless it was in a Tequilla or Mescal Bottle.

This one I remember very well:

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

My Dad always told me to call him if I was ever in any kind of trouble...landed in jail one night (18 years old). I worked for him at the time so my call was twofold, a) wasn't going to be in for work the next day and b) I was in jail. He cleared his throat (it was 1:30 am) and said, "You got yourself in there, get yourself out!" :scared

Stupid young kid at the time, everything worked out.

Thanks AR, you just described my childhood to a tee.
I even ate snails at a friends house. Wrapped them up in a sheet of paper and lit it. sifted through the ashes, cracked open the shells and ate 5 of them. Homemade escargo (sp).

I grew up in BFE, so I did actually walk miles to a friends house. Didnt have cable until I was 16.

Saw first tit on scrambled black and white tv watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High. (Still have a soft spot for Phoebe Cates

Ate a bottle of pills (dont remember what kind) because no childproof cap. (did have to get my stomach pumped)

Got half my face bit off by a neighbors dog because I tried to ride it like a horse, and no lawsuit or even asking for medical reimbursement..

Ahhhhhhhh, the good ol days........

exactly! you can't get the kids to go out and play these days. even when it was snowing, and snow up to my ass, i'd be out ALL day, no problem!

in the summer, i left in the morning with my glove and bat and was at the park all day long playing baseball.

the good old days.

I don't remember eating dirt, or insects.

I do remember playing tackle football. I had my nose broken because the kid in front of me gimped out on a tackle and the kid with the ball stumbled head first into my beak.

I think there is a rite of passage that includes blowing up (with fireworks or ammo) or playing baseball with ones childhood toys. For me it was GI JOEs that went flying in dozens of pieces upon meeting a wooden Loui Slugger at age 13/14.

I will have a problem making my kid wear a helmet on his/her bike. :s4: I guess it's safer but damn it looks lame.

The good ole days--Thanks AR
--anyone else use cloths pins and baseball cards to make their bike sound motorized--use to keep all the bats that were broke during little league and take home and do the ole wood screws and tape job on them--when I got whipped by teacher at school , would get another when I got home. Father had big thick belt he got for door prize at VFW and only thing he ever used it for--was wore out by time i went to high school :)--mom used wire end of flyswater, would put loop shaped welts every place you caught it.

I wasted a 'goldmine' of baseball cards on my bike, balloons had a better sound. I have a clothes pin on a bag of chips now :mj07:
