Speaking of fixed games, I have theory, crazy as it may be. Players could not fix games because they're mouthes are to big and they could not keep them closed. Coaches might be able to by calling bad plays but what coach would want to see their team lose especially when it counts. My bet would be the refs!!! For instance Pitt verse Indi. The whole world saw the interception by Pomamalu but the ref came back and said incomeplete. Mistake or fixed to get indi back in the game? No one really knows these refs and they are very low profile.

I agree that this sort of inexplicable call happens too often to be chance error. There are times when calls are made that are literally illegal, going by the rules. No explanation is ever given.

I don't believe the games are fixed. Maybe a rare one, where a college player tries something. Or a corrupt ref. I do think it is fairly common for games to be "managed" to stay competitive, and that this is tacit league policy. Since we have no sports journalists, it's hard to say. But for a long time the socialist victim mentality has pervaded sports. That means, we have to help the team that's behind get back in the game. Very easy to do in football and basketball; I've even seen it in baseball.

I have an alternative explanation for bizarre calls like the interception that wasn't: Mass sports is used to condition the population to accept to stupid, arbitrary, meaningless decisions from political dictators. We're conditioned simply to accept whatever happens, and ignore that it makes no sense, is illegal according to the written rules.

Note the league didn't even fine Porter for his comments that the league tried to steal the game. When you have a media/NFL policy of promoting minorities whether or not they're qualified, it's not strange that creeps into reffing and every other aspect. I'm convinced the discrimination is far wider than that. You saw what happened the minute they put in Brad Johnson for Culpepper.

Why would the books stay on 4 and get hammered this long? Seems to me they want that Steeler "Public Money" to keep pouring in. Maybe they feel like I do and the more balanced offense will wear the Steelrs down all day.

If the books wanted equal action they would have set the line at 6 or even 7. Why do they want onesided action here?

The answer seems chrystal clear to me.

That might be true for some books. But Pinnacle is a first-rate book, and probably does more action than most. I'd be surprised if it voluntarily took a position on this game. Pinny has said it's shading toward Sea in advance of Pit money it expects to flow in from general public on weekend.

Hi Clem...thanks for your balanced thinking. That is more than can be said for some of the delusional ideas that have "hijacked your thread", as you say. There is some real fanatical thinking here...anyways...back to capping. More by Bob Scucci...

Last Sunday on the Fan590 radio show Inside the Lines , Bob Scucci was on with Scott Kaminsky from Bowmans. They had this to say about the lines and why Pittsburgh is favored.

Bob Scucci is the Sportsbook Director at the Stardust. He was welcomed back and is healthy again. He said that the Steelers are -4 at the Stardust and that it has been all Steelers money since last Sunday. Sure, there are still -3?'s out there, and at -4 it's at -115 juice now. Parlay and straight bets are all on the Steelers, which has made the Steelers higher than the -3? they started at.

The point is that the Steelers have a very huge fan base and they will travel. There are people who were Steeler fans since the mid-70's and they are now in their 40's. They are from all over the country and are die-hard Steeler fans who come in to the Sportsbook and just bet their team.

Scott added that the public is now infatuated with the Steelers. They beat Indy and Denver and have looked good so far vs quality opponents. So this will drive the line up also, as far as the public goes. People will bet what they remember last.

Bob said that, for props, early money is on the player to score 1st TD. Actually, people like to bet the 1st of anything. People just come in and see these bets first. It makes the 1st Q exciting.

Let me add that a lot of sharp money may well be waiting for the line to go further in the Steelers favor, before jumping in. This is one reason for the reluctance of the books to go off -4, since they can get picked apart by the sharp guys. Just because some sharp money will hit the Steelers at -3?, it doesn't mean that the books couldn't be banged hard if they move the line too much. So I wouldn't read too much into what the books do here, if I were you. They are not betting on the game themselves, but they are constrained by what may happen if they do let public money drive the line too high.

ANYWAYS...just a show of appreciation from someone who reads your opinion and yes, I do think that you are on the "smart" side. Whether you win or lose, thanks for your rational analysis.

solid info Yanni. Thanks for posting- they know the big guns that have not made a play will come in on Sea, otherwise they would have made their play already everyone knew the # was going up. There also is alot of fear of getting middled that will make everyone reluctant to be the 4.5 guinea pig. I actually was leaning towards Pitt until I woke up and read the map- Hags are the play. Thanks for the enlightenment

Very good reading Yanno...but I'm starting to notice as this game gets closer and closer I am hearing more and more people on Seattle...sportsbook is 55% on Pitt and 45% on Seattle...not sure what happens with that line on Sunday but I'm teasing the game to Pitt +3 Under 54...I like both defenses and I think Pitt wins the game but not sure if they cover the four, I think Pitt wins with a FG...but good luck to us all! It should be a good game.

Hope you don't mind me posting this in your thread, Clem, but it's an update on what was said earlier. It's from Bob Scucci at the Stardust, and his short segment of the show Inside the Lines on Fan590 this morning. It gives the point of view of the Sportsbook Director at the Stardust, which by the way is scheduled for demoliton at the end of the year. Bob Scucci will be going to the Borgada in Atlantic City.

Bob said that they have 4? on the Board but denied that they were an island, with everyone else having 4. He said that Vegas and the offshore books are completely separated on this, and that it is 4? in Vegas. He said that they have brought "perfect 2-way action" @ 4?. The -4 money was all 1-way in the early going, so the books still need Seattle to have a good day. A certain offshore that contributes to the program reported that they were getting even action @ -4.

Asked if the "cerebral money" is on Seattle, Bob said the the wiseguys are on Pittsburg on the moneyline or taking the + 4?. All the square (public) money is laying the points with Pittsburgh or taking Seattle on the moneyline. THE BEST OUTCOME FOR THE SPORTSBOOK IS IF PITTSBURGH WINS BUT THERE IS NO COVER.

About props, there is one they have that is popular, which is whether Seattle will ever be ahead. Yes = -280. This is drawing a ton of money, but he joked that they would gladly sacrifice that prop (lose money on the yes) to get Seattle for the game (which the book needs).

This is just an update on where the money is going in Vegas, and what kind of money is going on what bets, and the fact that the action has been divided tho the book still needs Seattle from the earlier betting before they raised the line from -3? or 4.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU TODAY, AND HAVE FUN! :)

Thanks again Yanno, I'm glad I teased Pitt plus the points...I've been saying they win by a FG in a low scoring game.
