I don't know about Canadian insurance policies but the typical HO-3 from a reputable US company would probably cover the loss. If the mother is the 13 y/o's custodial parent and the father was out of town, it might be hard to prove that residence insureds acted intentionally. From the article, it appears that the destruction occurred after the police had come and cleared the house, removing the 13 y/o to the hospital. It seems like super-vandalism to me.
Reminds me of the Brady Bunch episode where they have to glue the lamp back together... times a million.

13 years old? I'm too paranoid not to know where my kids are and then not check on them a few times. I would have had that party broken up before it started.
