I think everyone makes too much of it. Who gives a crap, it still takes incredible hand eye coordination, an unbelievable amount of training, tons of travel etc?
.............................................................

I read yesterday where the steroids that he was taking actually improved his eyesight on the ball.

So this makes your argument full of bs.

Think Babe Ruth ever got that chance to improve his muscles etc to hit the home run record.

nope.

Okay, FDC, the next time a bunch of crooked CEOs like with Enron and Worldcom cheat people out of hard earned money, I want you to be standing up for them because "everybody does it". I can only hope it doesn't happen to you as an employee before you can see how unreasonable your opinion is on this.

Bonds would be a middle of the road player if not on juice. Just like Enron would have been a average to below average company without cheating.

And my last point, Bonds is a ****ing punk ass racist. **** him!

land of no where
THERE IS NO QUESTION ABOUT IT, BONDS IS A A**HOLE, BUT REALLY GUYS WHO THE FUK CARES IF H USES ROIDS, MORE THEN HALF THE BALL PLAYERS DO IN THIS ERA ANYWAY. SOME USE ROIDS FOR STRENGTH ONLY AND GAIN NO MASS. SOME USE FOR SIZE AND GAIN INCREDIBLE MASS, BUT HONESTLY GUYS IT DOES MAKE THE GAME FUNNER,MORE EXCITING, AND ENJOYABLE TO WATCH!!!! I SAY LET IT BE OPTIONAL AND WHAT THE HELL ITS THERE BODY, IF THEY WANT TO RUIN IT THEN GOOD SO BE IT. BUT FOR BONDS TO GET THIS MUCH NEGATIVE HYPE OVER ROIDS, WHICH WE ALL HAVE KNOWN THAT HE TAKES FOR A LONG TIME NOW. WHY IS THIS EVEN A ISSUE YEARS AFTER THE FACT. ALSO IT GOES BOTH WAYS 60 YEARS AGO THE PITCHERS DIDNT HAVE THE HEAT THAT THEY DO THIS DAY AND AGE. SO THAT COULD MAKE IT EASIER TO HIT ONE OUT OR EVEN HARDER TO HIT IT AT ALL. YOU THINK THAT MOST PITCHERS THAT CURRENTLY PLAY HAVEN'T TAKEN ROIDS? IN MOST CASES YOU WOULD NEVER EVEN NOTICE A SIZE GAIN.

ROIDS IS SO FAR OUT OF HAND. ROIDS ARE IN OVER 90% OF ALL HIGH SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES, AND WE ARE TEACHING ALL OF AMERICA'S BALL PLAYERS THAT SIZE COUNTS AND STRENGTH MATTERS.
SO THIS IS MORE THEN JUST ABOUT ROIDS ITS ABOUT THE HOME-RUN RECORD AND THE FACT THAT BONDS HAS NOTICEABLY DOUBLED IN SIZE IN JUST A FEW YEARS. IF HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON STRENGTH GAINERS WITH-OUT THE HUMAN-GROWTH HORMONE THEN NOBODY WOULD HAVE EVER NOTICED HIM HITING HOME-RUNS.

EVERY ATHLETE IN EVERY SPORT WOULD TAKE SUPPLEMENTS TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE,STRENGTH,SPEED,MOBILITY, AND EVEN SIZE! SO WHY ARE MOST SUPPLEMENTS OK BUT NO ROIDS FOR ANYONE.
IN MY BOOK HE IS JUST A =NOTHER EXAMPLE TO BE MADE, THERE ARE HUNDEREDS OF GUYS USING ROIDS RIGHT NOW IN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS, THAT JUST GO OVERLOOKED.!
GIVE THE GUY A BREAK ABOUT THE ROIDS. IF YOU WANT TO HATE HIM THEN HATE HIM FOR A GOOD REASON, LIKE BEING A PRICK OR A**HOLE. THE GUY HATES SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS ISNT A GOOD PERSON BUT ON THE FIELD HE IS SECOND TO NONE IN THE SPORT OF HOME-RUNS. THERE ARE PLENTY OF ROID USERS IN MLB BUT YOU DONT HEAR ABOUT THEM BECAUSE THEY DONT HIT 70 HOME RUNS A YEAR MAYBE 30 OR 40 AND THATS CONSIDERED NORM THESE DAYS. MOST ROIDS YOU COULD HIDE IN DRUG TESTS SOME PLAYERS PROBABLY USE THE "WHIZZANATER"
AND GET AWAY WITH IT.

I THINK THAT WE SHOULD NOT GIVE A CHIT ABOUT THE FUKING ROIDS AT THIS POINT BECAUSE THIS IS A FEW YEARS AFTER MOST OF US KNEW HE WAS USING FOR SURE ANYWAY.

THE GUY IS A PIECE OF HUMAN WASTE FOR LYING ABOUT IT AFTER HE GAINED 50-70 LBS. I MEAN IT WAS VERY OBVIOUS, BUT NOBODY RAISED SO MUCH HYPE, UNTIL SOME AUTHOR WRITES A BOOK ABOUT HIS ROID USE YEARS AFTER THE FACT..

what you said is all well and good.

But I read somewhere awhile back that over a million high school kids were using roids. And some die from it.

There is no good thing to come out of using steroids and they should be banned and anyone caught using them should be expelled from baseball along with any records they achieved.

Agree Bonds is a Super racist a hole.... with a very large ego

HELL
I didn't take the time to read everyone's thread on this topic, so I apologize if I am redundant in any way....

What is funny to me is that MLB et al thinks Pete Rose is the devil. To me, this is worse because assuming this Bonds steroids issue is true, he had more of an impact on the game/records than Rose every did and they have Pete in jail. This can't be a one way street. What Rose did was after the fact of his playing days, although I am not giving him a free pass either. If Pete did steroids he might of had 5000 hits and would have played even longer. Tit for tat. Bonds should get the same treatment or worse when or if they prove it.

Dude,
All due respect and all that horseshit but don't compare theft and a felony to cheating at a frigging game for chrissakes. Bonds didn't steal a damn thing, nor can he be aressted for what someone WROTE. Don't you guys get it this is a BOOK......a BOOK, not a video of him, a BOOK, thats for sale, a BOOK. .. It is not steeped in anything except conjecture. My God dude. Enron...............steroids??????? I am sure Dahmer and Gacy cheated at Chutes and Ladders when they were kids but that doesn't make Milton Hasbro a felon. What I am trying to say is this, don't believe anything unless you see it. Test the media, hold them to task, they are not always right and if they are SO FUHKING WHAT. In a hundred years there will be far better hitters then him and there will still be the media trying to bring him down....................who gives a care.

Theft of 280 million hardly compares to alleged steroid abuse.

Ripken8,
Of course you can walk across your swimming pool the frigging thing is still frozen........

FDC, I could not disagree more with you on just about every point you make in this thread.

First, we should care that he is cheating by using roids, we were taught at a very young age two wrongs don't make a right, so to say it's OK because half the other players are doing it just doesn't wash.

In the grand scheme of life cheating at baseball and stealing 280 million dollars don't compare, but let's talk about Bonds in the context of baseball, he is cheating. You claim it gives him no unfair advantage, but tell me why he does it then?

Obviously it gives him a big edge or he wouldn't do it.

Sure Barry gets the worst of it since he is so easy to dislike, he brings that on himself though.

You say it's just a book and not facts, true, but in all honesty what do you think is going on. I'm not asking what you or I can prove, but what you really think is going on.

I enjoy a lot of your posts/threads here, but completely disagree with you on this one.

How did Koufax and Paige cheat? No advantage to taking Roids? Now thats naive, the whole reason they're taken is to get bigger, stronger, faster, the mantra of athletes. Can't see why it should be ok for the users to increase their strength by 20% vs guys who aren't doing it or ever did it.How is that not an advantage, being 30 or 40 lbs heavier and just as fast? This opinion that it makes no difference goes the opposite of what those inside the game are saying, the users and non users among the pro athletes. It may be illogical, but I guess I'll believe them and not FDC in this case.

Penguinfan,
Good post and I agree with you and edludes that it provides an edge or advantage. I re-read my earlier posts and didn't see where I said anything to the contrary only that it still takes incredible coordination to hit a baseball.
I am not trying to say that cheating in of itself is ok. I am not. What I am saying is this........baseball at the professional level is a spectator sport as is football, soccer, and hockey etc............. The athletes that compete on that level are challenged to do well and compete at such a higher level, not by their peers but by fans and fan media. As many have stated, he is adored by many. Why do you think that is, because he hits lots of homeruns for their favorite team, yet for every father that takes his yong son to a game and is asked "Daddy can I get a jersey", and dad replies "sure son whose do you want" "I want Barry Bonds" there are twice as many that don't like Barry or believe that he is on roids that will actually tell that young lad to pick someone else. Or will sit in front of the tv and pass that dislike on to the youngster who knows no better.

Yes I think that Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark Mcguire (sp?) all juiced, funny hting is nobody said shit when Mark and Sammy brought all those fans back to the game in that most memorable year of my life watching baseball.

At the professional level the players are asked to do much more than the A ball player. Imagine the stress of playing at that level, everything you do, say is scrutinized by the media. Do you honestly think that if Barry Bonds came to the media the day they banned steroids and said "My bad I will quit" the media wouldn't have jumped all over him and then when his performance declined the media and the fans would have been buried in his ass too.

The point is that we, you and I and every baseball and professional sport fan in the world have created this along with the media. Is there a baseball fan here that hasn't booed when a good player was going bad, or told a buddy they should 'trade his ass'? This is Bonds' chosen career path and if he chooses to take the chance of using a banned substance then if caught he will suffer the consequences, much like Pete Rose does now. However, he still must be caught and using your own logic, we are taught at a very young age that one is innocent until proven guilty. I am entitled to an opinion as are you but the book proves absolutely nothing. Lets imagine just for one minute that Lyle Alzado didn't die from steroid abuse and the drugs were actually encouraged by the media...........and public................then what would we be saying?

It just seems to me that very few people are willing to step outside of public conscience sometimes and think what this really affects. What do most of the people attending the game want?????????? And then you have the purists. Both are right in wanting to be entertained, because thats all it really is isnt it? Entertainment?

The public is so fickle.......I remember when the players went on strike and everyone thought they were greedy and believed it was their salaries that drove higher ticket prices and such...............what a lark.

In closing I certainly see both sides of it, yes I think he roids, yes it gives him an edge, but in the big scheme of things I could care less because he brings people to the game.

fdc.....

i think if baseball doesn't investigate bonds i think people will think that there is a cover-up & start staying away from the games.....

but i think bonds will "retire" before breaking aaron's record......

AR182,
He may retire and he may not I am not sure. I am just saying that it is all speculative. I remember the talk of the "dead ball year" too and everyone complaining about the lack of power that year too. Its a lose lose situation roids or no roids there will never be controversy free players or sport as long as there are fans.

Badtodabone,
not sure what the point was of that but nice catch anyway

FDC, I am glad we can disagree in a reasonable manner.

From your point of view, and being from Pittsburgh, well I guess maybe I would have considered it different if Bonds was roided up back in the day and it helped him actually throw out Sid Bream from deep short stop, but still, we are talking about one of the most revered records in all of sports when you talk about Arron's home run record and it would be a shame if the new record holder had an astrik next to his name.
