We are moving. horray hooray.
Headed to SE WI.

I will be working in Chicago, and both wife and I's family are in Milwaukee. So Kenosha area seems to split the difference nicely.

Any recommendations on Kenosha area? Right now we are looking at Bristol and Pleasant Prairie.
Seeking: family oriented community, close good schools, we are family of 4 (me, wife, 3 yr old and 1 yr old and a dog)

Prefer to stay away from downtown city area.

also... I am going to be needing to rent a uhaul type truck (14-17 foot range) for a one way trip coming up in May.. any recommendations from anyone on who to use for a cheap price? Uhaul is asking $1000 for a one way rental on a 17footer right now. yikes!

Might want check out Gurnee,IL. I believe there is a madjacker from there. I think it's halfway btw Milwaukee and Chicago. Kenosha to downtown (if that's where your working) is a pretty long haul. I'm guessing you'd be 15-20 miles closer in Gurnee.

You are officially a redneck if you choose the location of your house based on the availability of a hunting/fishing liscense.

Kenosha is a nice area as is Racine the commute is tough because you have to come straight down 294 tollway and that is rough but Bristol is cool you would like it I guess. Still a long ass haul to work though

I will be just on the north/east side of the airport.

Kenosha to Chicago is a bad drive? omg.... I've been driving Baltimore to the west side of DC for the past year... its 60 miles and takes me 3 hours each way due to traffic.

Kenosha to Chicago is nothing!

Pengy - yea I know... it's a redneck factor... have land way up in northern WI and out of state licensing fees would cost me and the family about 1k a year extra... enough to git me a darn near new huntin riffle!

marine,

I would look to the west of Kenosha. There are alot of small towns off of hwy. 50 that may suit your needs.

Don't mean to offend anyone from Kenosha, but I do not think it is a very nice place to live.

Little over 50 miles Kenosha to your destination, not too bad of a drive.

Marine,

Where do you have your land in Northern WI? I'm up there all of the time for work. If you're ever in the Green Bay area let me know.

Aces,

North of Green bay... Pound/Crivitz area. about 180 acres of woods and farm.

Straight up 41/141 about 45 miles.

Bohica,

I keep hearing the same thing, but anything I read keeps saying how nice it is for family life there. In the late 90's it was ranked #2 place to raise a family. This year it was in the top 100 overall... but all my friends out there groan when i say kenosha.

is it that bad?

I'm just looking for a quite family oriented community, preferably one where my neighbors are going to have college educations and can use complete sentences when speaking with them.
Are Bristol and Pleasant Prairie better locations then Kenosha? or just stay out of Kenosha Country all together? or just City of Kenosha?

Marine,

Great area. I hunt in the Pembine area. Not too far from there.

We'll need to organize a Madjack's Packer Party this fall.

Good luck with the move.

You don't want to live in ILL, if you own firearms !

Marine just moved from Milton WI back to Ohio. The Penske 16 footer is sitting in the driveway as I type. Book it online and save 10-12 Percent! (The wife did it, a piece of cake to accomplish.) Ours was $386 before insurance with online discount, no questions asked at return insurance took it to like $457. IF you have AAA membership you get like another 8% off. The truck I drove down today had 177 miles on it when we picked it up. The other two Penske's I rented were both late model well maintained trouble-free experiences. The last U-SQUALL I rented was a joke the guy went out and put new headlights in it before we left. The real problem was the clouded over plastic lens on the 10+ year old unit!

I was in the Janesville - Rock County area for a year it is a nice town. Any way I can help let me know.

Good Luck !!!!

I live in SE WI and the best advice is to live west of I-94. Schools are great and the towns are small. I would advise not looking for a place in the city. (Kenosha and Racine)

I live in Union Grove and my son went to grade school in Yorkville. The school is so small that the principal knows all the parents and childrens names. It goes up to grade 9 and then the kids go to Union Grove H.S.

Give a shout when you get into town and I would be more than happy to show you around the local area.

I'm looking for 3 bedrooms plus an office and about 2000 sq ft... less than 8 yrs old.
think it can be done around there for less than 300k?
living out east for so long housing prices and the house you get are skewed beyond belief...

You shuldnt have any problem getting the house you want for under 300k.
If your a golf fanatic there is a new golf course being built and home/lot packages start at 260k. Its called Strawberry Creek. Located in Bristol. Here is there website http://www.strawberrycreekclub.com/Home.htm

Towns in no particular order..Union Grove, Yorkville (Part of Union Grove),Paddock Lake ( buddy lives here), Salem (brother lives here), Bristol. You can try Wilmont but first Mapquest it to see how long it would take you to get to work. You wouldnt be taking the interstate in.

The place I work for has there semis parked in a Ryder yard. We get a good discount on the rental trucks so if you want I can check on Tuesday to see how much it would cost for a one-way rental.

If you have a realitor..great. If not I can hook you up with the wifes friend that does this.
