not nearly the coughing spell i usually have in the morning. it's almost nothing at all, ALREADY! if that ain't motivation to stay smoke free, nothing is.

the main reason i quit was because of all the coughing. i can't even smoke in the mornings until i have coughed for about 30-45 minutes. serious loud, hard coughing. this morning, after only 36 hours of no smoke, the cough is nearly non-existant.

i really want one of the bastids too. i'm sitting here having a cup of coffee, all pleased that the coughing has stopped already and i still want a smoke? sheese.

stay free, folks.

LOL, the 4mg gum really took the edge off for me. From what I understand day 3 will be the fun one!

It's psycho warfare against those little critters, that for should. I enjoyed some crazy epic dreams last night with the fresh nicotene patch applied as TJ suggested. I always wanted to hook up with that swanky broad from IT dept and last night, thanks to the patch, it all happened in vivid color. It snowed here last night and schools are closed but I am going to work one way or another. No way I stay home all day on day 2

I know a guy that didn't start smoking until he was 30,quit when he was 55 and has not smoked since. He will be 80 late Dec this yr. You can do it, he quit cold turkey because of something his doctor told him. My friend Jack takes care of himself and is in better shape than most in their 60's. It's your life, you can do it. 1min, 1hr, 1day at a time.

It is tough to get rid of these cancer sticks.I am a heavy smoker myself and i would do anything to kick this habit. Most recently i tried a method of smoking 1 every hour on the hour.Consider that i smoke over 2 packs a day easily.1 every hour is a bonus. The funny thing is that i work out at the gym 5 days a week and that includes running on the treadmill.People think that i am in great shape but little do they know my lungs are filled with crap.Hang in there jack..good luck

...agree with ryson, that 4 mg gum is really helping. Resisting the craving this morning was harder than yesterday for some reason, but had a piece of gum in my mouth before I hit the shower. I'm still avoiding the booze and coffee...even though I can smell a fresh pot that someone put on here at the office this morning.... (Apparently some of my sense of smell is resurfacing....)

Played cards last night in a non-smoking setting...and didn't think too much about wanting one except when someone would announce that they were going outside for a smoke break.... I'd just punish the gum for a few seconds and take a deep breath and think...glad that's not me having to go outside into cold weather for a nicotine fix. ;)

...keep holding on, fellas! Remember, :nono: SMOKING!

taoist -- that is very similar to my experience when I quit. My immediate thought was that I wish I was going out for a smoke, then I would think about how stupid that thought was. No more standing outside at weddings and other events when it's below freezing!!!! Another side benefit of not smoking.

Great job, everyone!

We are not smokers!!!

Stopped at my local watering hole last night for a couple of beers and resisting a smoke was VERY difficult. I went on home, had some dinner and went straight to bed but had trouble falling asleep.

This morning the cravings are pretty bad but I am just going to suck it up and move forward. I'm doing this cold turkey and it is not fun.

Good luck with Day 2 everyone!

Judge, I originally thought the same thing.... Cold turkey is the only way. I wanted to just use regular chewing gum to help with the cravings.... let me tell you, this 4mg gum is helping alot. If you can do it cold turkey, great....but if it comes down to smoking again or buying the nicotine gum, please choose the gum.

Is everyone else still hanging in there?

ugh....i'm only on day 1, and can't believe the difference in cravings when doing it without the patch!!!! If i can make this cold turkey, it's gonna be a freaken MIRACLE. between that and the stress of knowing if i get this job i want or not, it's TORTURE!!!!! Finally got the call i'd been waiting for since last friday (then put off till monday, and no call then either) :( Well, i hear from her this morning, and know that i am the one that is hired IF they hire,,,,, she should know for sure by friday if ramp positions are going to be contracted out to the airport. if the bids are too high, i will fly to chicago for a physical next week (all the more reason to not be smoking, eh?? ) DAMN, i read that thing that TJBELL posted about changes, and couldn't believe the part about 8 hours for the blood pressure to go down.... but today my blood pressure is FANTASTIC, and normally it is thru the roof!!!!

Day 2. 12:10pm.

Went to the bar last night. Took the gum with me but didn't take it cause I was drinking beer. Had 2 beers, felt the urge and drove home and straight to bed. This morning I was really in the mood for one but, I don't smoke and didnt even want to take a gum cause I drink my coffee to work. Girlfriend has been really supportive :SIB

Got to the office at 9:30am and found an eamil from a manager which really pissed me off.. so I replied and told her to quit wasting my time. :mj07: Had to go for a walk, cool off, chew on the gum for a few minutes and go and say sorry. :142smilie

I really do feel better today but know this will be a longer day than yesterday but.. I don't smoke so I don't care. Its all about ME this week. Screw everyone and their problems. :142smilie

Good luck boys and gals! 2-3 more days of pain.. The rest will be up to you and who wants to smoke anyways? If you smoke, you will die before your time and I want to live for a long time.

Ciao!!!! Be strong!!

FYI - I was told by people in the know that although patches may work, it is tantamount to putting the cart before the horse. After 96 smoke free hours, the physical dependency to nicotine is gone unless you are absorbing it through patches or candy. If you make it 96 hours, you have a lifelong mental habit to kick, ie: keep your breast pockets empty or wherever you kept your smokes etc. Again, Good luck!

my wife, who was a smoker for many years gave up smoking out of fear.....one morning she started spitting out blood....& of course all kind of negative thoughts started racing through her head.......but it was only her gums that were infected.....because she had those thoughts that she had cancer she stopped cold turkey & it's now been about 17 years....

a recommendation that i have is to stay out of bars....the smell of smoke in bars make it very conducive to smoking..........

hang in there guys (& annie).....you'll be glad you did.....

MadJack.....GL 2U. Have to say I don't how how you have done it so far. I tried quitting so many times and every time I talked about it I'd start back. I went thru accupucture, hynoist, patch, gum, setting a date etc.....then one day, I threw the pack against the kitchen cupboards, ran the water on the pack and slam dunked them in the garbage. I never told anyone I quit but had a hard time the next day trying to explain why I was sweating so much, dizzy :dizzy: ,shaking:mj08: and as one fellow worker said "you look green".... :mj02: I was sick . Still I knew from my past trying that I would fail if I talked about it. I finally exploded one day about the 4th day. We were out fishing and this friend of mine never had a lighter or matches. "Gotta light", :nono: "No"....."Gotta Light" "No"....."Gotta light" :cursin: "No".....He knows I was a chain smoker, so you think he would have seen that I wasn't smoking. :wtf: I quit :weed: ......don't ####en ask me again or you'll be ####en :s1:

Bottom Line..anyone who is trying to quit smoking or whatever it is.....has to want to, then do go for it.
Good luck to you and all that are trying, it's a tough thing to beat but it can be done.

...just back from lunch...man, to me this is the worst time of the day. I'm currently chomping a piece of gum like a man on a mission. I'm with Jack in that i couldn't do the bar/alcohol thing for at least a couple of weeks, but unlike Jackson, this does not feel like it's gonna be a piece of cake. Right after lunch I was wanting one so badly, I started shaking and the gf asked if i was cold... LOL No, sugar, not cold...just addicted. LOL :142smilie

...thanks for all of the support and words of advice from those quitting and everyone else. Guess which threads will be my favorite for the next few days.... :mj07:

Stay strong team!!! ;)
