I have been reading the threads and am impressed with how everyone is doing. Was wanting to start on the 20th with everyone but I knew I wouldnt make it thru work. With tommorow being my day off...set another place at the table because company is coming over.

Smoked for 26 years. I have only tried to quit twice...both times cold turkey. 1st time lasted till 4:00pm and was then able to convince someont to run out and get me a pack. Last time was was about 2 years ago. Only lasted 3 hours after I got up. I was a complete and total azz to anyone around me. I think I set myself up to fail on that one.

I didnt tell the wife I was thinking on doing this so when I got home last night with the patches and gum in hand she was happy. (she dosent smoke and never nagged me about it) Then I explained that it would cut into our sex life for about a month. She made the mistake of asking why and I told her that I couldnt drink for that long otherwise I know I would go back to smoking. And if I wasnt drinking there was no way I would be able to drink her pretty to have sex with. :mj07: :mj07: At least one of us thought it was funny.

So tommorow everyone will be out of the house when I start. I think the patches and gum will help me out tremendously.

If you see some B.S. rants and raves from me just disregard.

i guess everybody is still smoke free?

sorry to hear about your aunt, VaNurse.

this is tough but i don't want to be a smoking casuality. and, like someone in another thread said, "IT'S NOT TOUGH JUST DON'T SMOKE".

i have 4mg gum in my mouth and a patch on my left arm. i know i only need these aids for about 4-5 days.

I can't believe it's been 1 year already.:00hour I'm still SMOKE FREE!! I hope I'm not the only one that has made it this far. I'm feeling real good about myself, I really think I got it beat this time. I'm feeling better than I have in many years.:yup

JACK ARE YOU READY TO GIVE IT ANOTHER SHOT?

Or anyone else that didn't make it last time why not give it another go.

Has anyone here tried the new medication, Chantix? One of the NP's I work with is completely sold on it and is offering to write me a scrip. Any feedback?

If you really have a frame of mind to quit this brutal habit go to a hypnotist!!!!!! It worked for my mother. 30 years bang. Never again.

the unit clerk at my job who is around 60 and has been smoking since she was 8 recently started taking Chantix. Today was her 7th day without a cigarette, and she's one of these folks I would have never thought would have quit or even tried to quit. I guess right now I'm impressed with Chantix. Couldn't hurt to try, and also, our insurance pays for it where I don't think it bays for Zyban.

Good luck to all of you! You can do it! I quit a year ago cold turkey after 23 years of smoking. Look at it this way... I smoked 1-1.5 packs per day for most of that time. After only three months, I had already saved enough maney to put a down payment on a new car. YOU CAN DO IT!! gOOD LUCK.

Hey Jack,
We convinced my mother in law to try Chantix after the birth of our 2nd child and it worked for her for about 3 or 4 months. She has migraine type headaches in the back of her head and I think that drove her back to the wicked weed. Good luck with this.
