Been to both New York and Florida several times. IMO, neither one is much to get excited about. In New York there are a bunch of rude @ssholes who crowd the streets. The locals always managed to treat us out of towners like chit when we came to NY. On the other hand in Florida, you have a bunch of eighty-ninety year old people wearing cataracts who think they are the best drivers in the world. Also, had a friend who was a cop down in Florida that told me stories about living there...yuck. Along with a few other things don't like much in either state. As for tourism/vacation, I like to vacation in Florida while I would not set foot in New York again because its a chithole.

As for me I think there are about a dozen states I would rather live in. I.e. Virginia, Atlanta, California, Illinois, Nevada, Indiana, Texas, etc.

JMHO :D -

Very true over on the east coast of Florida from West Palm to Miami, but not over on this side bro. The sane midwesterners come to the west coast. I lived in Fort Lauderdale for 6 years and had fun, but man....

I love NY at least Manhattan. Love to go there, great food, sports, entertainment. If we could live in Manhattan would do it in a second esp in the summer and at Christmas time and keep our place here in SoCAl.

Wife and I love the big city aspect. We have stayed at the Manhattan club a couple of times along with some hotels on other occasions.

Also have family in Fla. both places have there good and bad, but it's what you personally make out of it.

Exactly, Al. See, you don't get bothered by my generalizations even though you're originally from NY, because they don't apply to you. On the other hand you have NY Sportsfan who sees his reflection oh so clearly in my words. That is all for now.

:mj07: :mj07: not quite, man......but yes every place has their positives and negatives, but just as nobody could pay you enough to live here, nobody could pay me enough to live in the midwest, so there you go.....generalizations are accurate maybe but theres so many damn people you can't group all of them in....if you go the nice suburbs. beaches, golf courses etc in the spring you'd sing a different tune, but the stupid news media that you watch only shows crime, etc, oh well

correct........sane, boring midwesterners who wouldnt understand a sarcastic joke or billy joel reference if it hit them square in the head.....fort lauderdales awesome, they actually know what good music is ie good classic rock, billy joel, clapton, etc.....not that you care, but try getting a bagel or calzone or any good ethnic kind of food on the west coast of fla, you'll be sorely disappointed, I had a decent time down there and it served my purposes, but there's much more action on the other coast (see 4am bar closing times) but it's natural you'd like the area with more people "like you" and I'd like the area with more people similar to me

You got the right idea ctown, although I personally like san diego much better than LA even though only been to each place once, my friend from la admits the same, but if you're in the nice orange county area it's nice but so damn expensive there imo.....not sure i'd want to live in manhattan, not much bang for the buck but you're right in the middle of everything which is great, depends what you're looking for........if i can't have a good big city like ny,boston, chicago then i'd sign for the weather and go to zona, vegas, maybe even san diego, or south florida in a second, why people live in the rust belt of the industrial midwest where it is a$$ freezing, the jobs are all leaving and the factories closing, etc is beyond me, but everyone's different and I guess it depends where you grew up

Do those beaches up there still have all that medical waste floating in and those used syringes washing up to shore?

:mj07: :mj07: yeah if you go to the beach in atlantic city where the crackheads throw their pipes then probably, depends where you go mman, love that nice blue water iun Ft Lauderdale though beautiful, as is the nice white sand on the gulf.......but in all seriousness the beaches on long island are pretty nice and there is a beautiful boardwalk, if you ever come out of your cocoon in no-mans land in that sauna down there you will see

believe it or not there are more & more people from the ny area moving to the carolina area & out this way......

when you visit ny you should know how to act....

ie....never look anybody in the eye when you are walking....never walk close to buildings at night....

i personally like the hustle of ny....i like the way nyers drive, unlike here nyers know that the left lane is for passing.....

people are missing something if they don't go to the various museums in ny...they're really very interesting & there is a lot of eye candy at these places....

there also is nothing like going to the theatre in ny.....once you have seen a show in ny everything else is 2nd rate.....

soho & the village are great places to people watch...great food...great bars....& great late night places where you can sit & listen to great jazz...also central park is a great place to hang during the day....eye candy is also top notch there....

on the other hand.....

you get ripped off with taxes when you stay at a hotel in mid-town.....

but if you happen to wander to the west side piers at night you may find a guy getting it in the ass...where else can you find that....

kneifl....

if you think nyers are rude......go to rome where they have different prices for the tourists than for the natives.....or where the drivers sometime drive on the sidewalk & if you don't get out of the way they will run you down.....i also saw a co-worker get cracked in the head with an empty beer bottle because he got into an argument over a table in a restaurant....

sorry for the long post...just wanted to point out if stay aware ny is a great place to visit.....

:toast: :toast: nice to see someone else defend NY, AL, good for you, these knuckelheads like sheltered kosar here dont want to see anyone honk at them......it's common sense and i';ve never had a problem, just look down when walking and go on your way without holding a map in front of your face, etc and dont walk around bad areas at night, who doesnt know that anyway?...I never go to museums and shows but have heard they are great, I guess wives etc drag guys to that but I'm not there yet, some day......the driving I like also, it's just when people are jerks and cut you off constantly without signaling, but you get used to it, theres no need to drive in manhattan anyway take a cab or a subway or better yet walk.......on another note, i know someone here who had the same early life crises as me but hes 30 and moved to honolulu for a while, he said they despise tourists in the towns there and locals try to make their lives miserable, never answer them when they ask questions, rob them, etc, it is far worse other places

OK, I give. What's the positive in Houston? Stayed there a few times when my dad lived there. It would be my last choice of residence for a US city.

ok you stumped me, LOL.....I was there once for a few days during my texas road trip a few years ago, and it was a few days too many, the only good thing was there was a place with awesome margaritas, but the city looks like a cespool, ugly w/no zoning, crime, etc, there has to be some nice suburbs though......yeah florida is known for being a dumping ground, it's just funny, it draws all the people from up here and other places that couldnt hack it and want to get away from past problems/start a new life ie las vegas serves the same purpose, and I can attest to the fact that it is a perfect place to go for such purposes.....the drugs, sex offenders, foreigners, old people, scammers who buy houses there with crooked money so the government cant seize their assets, etc make for a funny combination thats for sure, and then theres kosar....... :142smilie

Ok , I took a lot of crap in this thread where Jackson saw me on TV shaking hands with Raymer because I was there under totally random circumstances at that exact time.

Here's a thread from some goof on another forum that apparently idolizes 'fossilman.'

Including some BTJ commentary.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I met Greg "Fossilman" Raymer in Costa Rica today! - a class act

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My trip to Costa Rica was good but one of the coolest parts happened today at the airport while I waited for my flight home. Guess who is standing there like everyone else waiting for the same flight - Greg "Fossilman" Raymer!

He said he was in CR to visit with PokerStars and was on his way back home to North Carolina. I thought he lived in Connecticut near Foxwoods but he said he actually has been trying to sell that home for a while and has been in NC. He said he will be heading out to Vegas in a few days for all the WSOP stuff - said that he will be out there for 7 weeks total, whew.

This guy was a real class act. Chatted with me for at least 10 minutes while we waited for the flight to board. He talked about how he refuses to move out to Vegas because he does not want to raise his children there - content with being in NC and obviously putting his family first.

Nice to see someone who did not let fame and money go to his head. He's just a normal guy waiting for a plane like everyone else and sitting in coach drinking diet coke like everyone else. He chatted with anyone who wanted to talk with him or take a picture with him. Hope he keeps doing well.
