A friend of mine in the Marine Corps and I where on leave back in 83' and this bar in the North Suburbs was leasing this bus to go to the harness races at either Hawthorne or Maywood race track can't remember which, I was tore up. Anyway, this buddy of ours John that always wore these crooked glasses gave us some mushrooms, hell we were on leave, so we ate them. Anyhow, its freezing out and we get on the bus with a keg and party all the way to the track. I had never been to a horse race before and decided to bet on horse number 7. There was an indoor grandstand that had this huge window looking out over the track. We sit down with a freshly purchased beer and I figure out that I am quite buzzed. Anyway, the race starts and the horses, unbeknownst to me, accelerate to a trot and I notice number 7 in the lead. I mention this to Dan, we giggle about the fact that we are triping our brains out behind this large T.V. screen. Number 7 comes around the back turn still in the lead and I quip "Go 7", we giggle a bit harder because someone looked at me weird. 7 comes around the final turn in the lead. I elbow Dan.."7....7.....here comes 7" we both kind of start laughing as I stand up and bend back over to hit him on the shoulder one last time and holler "7" as he crosses the finish line, when the elderly man behind me taps me on the shoulder and says, "Hey buddy, you know they go around twice don't you"? At which point Dan begins to absolutely howl with laughter as does everyone else in the ever decreasing windowed grandstand......................was friggin awesome for everyone but me.
