Does anybody know what is legal in Canada in regards to online sports betting and poker rooms?

Not sure how things are in Canada, but here in Mexico, i dont think they have laws governing it, and besides if they come a knockin , well i will just kick them a 20 spot and they will move on. :142smilie

Online sports betting: You might be putting yourself at risk if you bet with a company that is physically located in Canada. There are only a couple of those, and I know of at least one that won't even take Canadian customers. As far as betting with a company outside of Canada, I have not heard of anyone ever having a problem with it. So far online gambling is pretty much off the radar here.

Poker rooms: Different story. Definitely not legal. Have heard of a few busts at games. You can possibly get around it if it's a private game, with the doors to the establishment physically locked, but even then I believe it's a bit murky and there are ways you can go wrong. Alcohol being served (or not served) also ties into just how legal it is viewed.

There are plenty of live poker games around town, but you're taking your chances.

Further to the above...I should point out that there ARE some legal poker rooms here in the government-run casinos. But it's not like there are abundant seats, or that the games are particularly convenient to get to for a lot of people. Casino Rama (an hour north of Toronto) has maybe a hundred seats max, and there can be a long wait to get into a low-limit game. Casino Niagara also has poker rooms I think.

They also have poker for the last couple of weeks in August at the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) in Toronto. A friend of mine hits this every year and says it's easy pickings. It's legal and it's big, and for a lot of the guys/fish this may be the only live poker game they play in all year. My buddy will try to get down there for almost every day of it for the 16 or so days that it's on.

Thanks Jack! Now I understand why some of my wagers never went through, they were blocked by those Damm casino chips.
