while in vegas, The Judge posted on the forum while we were having drinks at a bar.

I have never looked into the instruments needed to access internet.

here's what i'd like to have for when i'm away.

1st, nothing fancy. i don't like carrying things around with me so want as small as possible.

what are these features. this is a phone (i guess) that verizon offers.

Bluetooth is this the thing you see people walking around with sticking out of their ear? if it is, i don't want or need that ridiculous thing
BroadbandAccess is this the internet feature i can use to post on the forum and access my web based email accounts?
Email why is this needed if i can access the internet
MP3 Player don't need this at all
Picture Messaging don't need this at all
QWERTY Keyboard wtf is this
Removable Memory
Speakerphone
Video Messaging don't need this at all

any suggestions on the phone i'm looking for with minimal features?

all i want is to post on the forum, access my email and use the phone.

thanks

I just bought one and I love it, but Jack, you will probably want the Treo 700w...not the 700p. The 700w is windows based and closer to what you are used to unless you've had a blackberry. They retail for about $500, but I was careful and found one on eBay for $300 with the accessories.

how do they calculate your online time? do they just charge you for the minutes like they do when making phone calls? is it free nights and weekends?

isn't a QWERTY keyboard what you're typing on now? That opposed to just having the alphabet on there in order or having the 1 key stand for a, b, c, etc.

I recently traded in my Treo for the Sprint PPC-6700 Pocket PC

The Treo was great but I like the slide-out keyboard on the new one much better. I only pay $15.00 per month for unlimited internet access.

I have had the Treo 700w for about 7 months now. I honestly don't know how I got by without it.

Nothing beats it, in my mind. I'd be happy to discuss it's features with you and answer all your questions - if you'd like, send me an email and I'll give you my cell phone number and talk to you about it.

I don't know how a business man like you could survive without it - you'd never have to be home - you could be playing poker tourney's every day and still get all your business done.... :D

Mags

FYI - I'm not a paid shill in any way - I just love my Treo...

Gotta disagree on the 700W but its all personal preference between the two OSs. I swear by the 700P only because the Palm OS is typically more reliable and I've used Palm Pilots for the last 8 years or so. You can also find a ton of free software since its a favorite of developers. I have mine through Verizon and dont know how I get by without it. I just dont care for the Windows Mobile software, its full of a bunch of stuff I dont need or want to run like Media Player or MP3 players or that nonsense, the Palm is much more streamlined in my opinion.

A qwerty is the one you are using now named after the keys on the top row. Believe it or not there are keyboards that are alphatbetical I forget what they are called but I doubt you can find them anymore.

I use SnapperMail which is a free email program to retrieve my work email and my Yahoo/Hotmail emails. Its easier than logging onto a website because its just a standalone program. You push retrieve and it goes out and gets everything with one push, no logging on each time that sort of thing. The newer browser version is excellent.

Also have a removable SD card and a program called BackupBuddy. It backs everything on my phone up (email, texts, pictures, contacts everything) onto the card along with the progarm. If the phone every completely fries, pop the card in a new phone, run restore and you are back in business.

I love it, great product.

edit to add that if you are going to be posting and doing stuff like that, you are absolutely going to want a phone with a full keyboard.

So with either of these "phones" I can sit in a bar having a beer watching football and get on the web and make a bet with my offshore account?

With the Treo, you are limited to the sites that are compatible with WAP but the Pocket PC is Windows based and actually uses Internet Explorer. I have been able to use this with all six of my books with no problems. In fact, the only site that I have had any trouble with is my online bank which is actually makes me feel better about their security.
