Hi Guys,

I am planning a trip to Vegas. Never been there before.

Anyone have any recommendations as to where to stay?

I would like to be near the Sportsbook if possible.

I was thinking about staying at the Mirage.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

Thanks Jack and AR.

I appreciate the help.

Don't worry AR, I know you are only joking.

I am more worried about Pinny closing then I am the terrorist threats, so I think as far as this goes, I should be okay. LOL.

Bill, it depends on what you like to do, the kind of crowd and "feel" you like, etc. If you like the strip and glitz of new stuff, or the old-time tradition feel of downtown, away from the touristy stuff. There is a lot to do there besides gamble, of course, if that suits you. Maybe a quick idea of what you want to accomplish and I would toss a couple of ideas to you. The Mirage is definitely nice, though, no doubt, regardless.

Thanks Chadman, I appreciate the help.

I am going with my wife so she will want to go to some shows, see the Dolphins at the Mirage, etc.

We probably don't want something to glitzy and crazy. Also, don't want a bunch of drunk young kids running around either.

We just want to relax a little bit. Actually, gambling will probably NOT be one of our top activities.

We are going on a Thursday, and leaving on a Monday. The only day that will be for me will be Sunday for football.

The other days will be for her......... so we will be doing a lot of activities.

I thought The Mirage looked good as far as activities. Plus, it looks to be in the center of the strip.

If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Thanks again.

Check out this site, some good info and ideas - and specials here: http://www.cheapovegas.com/index.php (hope that's ok, Jack)

Box is right, the Cirque de Soleil shows are awesome. I have seen three different ones and all three were amazing. A little pricy, but nothing else compares. The other must see in my book is the fountain/water show on the strip in front of The Bellagio. They have 5 different shows or something like that, going every half hour or so. Really cool, day or especially night.

The wife and I did a ton of things there off the beaten track. The knights on horses jousting dinner show (forget the name) at The Excaliber was kind of unique. The Ceasars Palace dinner/magic show was kind of fun - about $35 I think. Pretty good food and fun. There is a Star Trek museum at the Hilton I think (off the strip a little) that was kind of fun - if either of you are fans. Catch the pirate battle in front of Treasure Island, that's free and well-done. The Volcano in front of the Mirage is pretty neat, I hear. They couldn't do it when we were there, do to weather. That's free, too.

Probably worth a cab ride down the Fremont Street downtown. There is a lights show above the street every so often that is pretty amazing - also free.

Of course, other destinations around Vegas like helicopter rides and Hoover Dam - well worth it, I hear - never done either myself.

If you don't like drunken kids, probably avoid Bally's and Hard Rock.

That should be enough for now. Have a great time - a lot to do in Vegas other than gamble.

Thanks a lot Chadman.

My wife will enjoy a lot of that stuff that you mentioned............I probably will too.

You are definitely right about there being a lot more to do then gambling.

I promised my wife that we would not spend too much time gambling.

As long as she let's me have my Sunday at the Sportsbook, I will be fine.

I will let you know how everything turns out.

Thanks again for the info, I really appreciate it.

if it's your first time to vegas you might as well pimp yourself out right? You can even hire cheerleaders for the basketball suite:SIB

not a big fan of the mirage, too much tacky old school vegas decorating for my young blood. Steve Wynn loves the old school vegas vibe with the mirage, treasure island and he used to run the golden nugget. I heard his new place THE WYNN is pretty nice.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I will take it all into consideration and ask the wife what she wants to do.

As I said before, as long as I can have my Sunday at the sportsbook, I will leave the rest up to her.

I will pass all of this info along to her.....thanks again guys.
