Keep in mind it was just an hour long scrimmage but there had to be 300+ people there..
I have 22 kids but only about 8 can play, (dont mind hitting , not pussys, understand the game) Also keep in mind they are 7, 8, 9, 10 (if under 88 pounds)
At least 40 parents screaming for little Johnny to play QB or running back or why not use a 6-3 instaed of a 5-4 all at the same time
We have NO 10 yr olds only 2 guys who have played before and played a team with 12 10 yr olds 14 returning....
I tried my best to placate the parents and play all the kids but man .. you cant hide a kid in right field in football... kids were literally running away from the play .. and the tough kids who stood there ground got jail breaked..One kid actually quit in the middle of the defensive huddle!!! We have had 7 practices and the other team was running stunts at us... All season we have been practicing against a 5-4 .. they are stunting there NG and DT and our guys were running into each other chasing them.. Funny moment when my son 8 and 59 pounds looks up from center, breathes a sigh that there was no NT (they went to a 6-3) snaps the ball comes out of his crouch and doesnt see the ILB with 10 yards of steam just bury him...
(I asked him if he got hit as he stumbled to the side lines not to embarrass him that I saw..
"Dad, I got fukcing crushed.... " exact words.. he returned 3 plays later.. bless his heart.)
He (my son) had a black eye, bruised arm , bite marks from the NT by games end..
Needless to say we got hammered , Every parent came over with a "suggestion" on how to improve usually with there untalented son at the helm of a west coast offense...
I hope Shamrock reads this since we live in the same town....
Welcome to North Attleboro Football....

What the fawk is the other team running stunts on defense? I would of went over to the other head coach and told him you run one more stunt and i will knock the fawk out of you in front of all these people..

That's great! Not often(if ever) a 10 year can get off a f-bomb but I believe he was entitled after getting flattened.

You're a patient man. I don't believe I could take on the task of head coach.

Good luck to you and tell your son, "get 'em next time".

Some of these Dads/coaches make me sick! Anything to win! I agree with you AGC. He's probably some hack who couldn't make the JC team. So he's living through his 8 year olds.

What a tough guy he is.

8 year olds drop F bombs now-a-days?

Hit or no hit, if I had said that within my parent's earshot I would have gotten my ass beat.

I agree, that would have happened to me too. I said he was 10 but he's 8. I'm sure I would have pointed out that I better not hear that again and cut him a break.

Jesus, I honestly don't want to think about what my Dad would have done to my ass if I blurted out a F-bomb. Really, I don't want to think about it.

Hey the kid to a vicous shot and got up..
Normally he never swears and if his mother heard HE would of been in big trouble.
Didnt mean to let anyone think I am a bad father (I am not)
It was just a m oment between a dad and a son when I wanted to go in and hit the kid myself.. but you cant.. He has listened to my football tales for years and seen the pictures and as most sons are, dont want to let your parents down..
For swearing it that instance, looking into his eyes, knowing how much pain he was in, holding back the tears. It was perfect.
Trust me he is a good catholic school boy who has perfect manners, thats why him saying that was so perfect.
As for the other coach.. complete too.
He knows the guys I coach with from high school
They said he was at best a back up JV guy..
In retrospect I should of popped that coach
Karma baby .. his will come.. as will mine..

Hey no worries it wasn't a personal attack at all.

Those must be the fun father-son moments when something like that happens and it's just a man and his boy, no mom around and the son does something he's not supposed to. Then the dad realizes he's that much closer to being a little man.

Good stuff.

I'm an Asst. coach on my son's team (same age group, he will be 9 in a couple of weeks) and it is a ball working with the kids. It does get frustrating at times with some of the kids being afraid to hit or get hit, try teaching a kid to takle who doesn't want contact. We had 2 kids quit the first week of practice and one quit the second week after the first night of hitting...

great story, dont have any kids but every time my friends talk about their kids football game its amusing. sounds like the coach of the other team is a dick. bless your son for his courage, i know you have to be diplomatic, its only a game, but i would tell the parents of the children who are scared or suck, that they need to talk to their kids, not you, about doing better. sounds like a tough spot to be in, but you sound like a good coach.
good luck.

Blitz,
I am from CT but I love Mass,
Are you familiar with North Attleboro?
Shamrock actually lives right down the street from me
And beantown Jim is far enough away also!!

These people take their football pretty serious The whole entire Applebees was Chris Sullivan memorabilia up until his Herion arrest (He is a local boy)

I dont remember Midget football being so big as a kid in CT We had some great players (One started at Tailback for Arkansas state another played a t Wisconsin and another played hoops at Uconn, plus Bill Romanowski played one high school over)

Am I just getting old ????
