Two early totals...

Army/Arkansas St. under 47.5: Army and Arkansas St. both will have a very inexprerienced backfields but veteran offensive lines. Both coaches will look to bring the QBs along slowly and rely on their defense. Last year's game was 38-10 but I don't see Army scoring 38 on the road. With both teams looking to run the ball early on and the new clock rules, I don't think this game gets close to 47.5. I would grab this total now since it will probably close around 45 or 46.

Michigan/Vandy under 47.5: Wolverines are capable of putting up a lot of points but always seem to shut down the offense in the second half. The defense has to be better than last year's underachieving unit and will play more aggressively against Vandy's inexperienced QB. Michigan is a 25 point favorite and rarely covers as a home favorite. Wolverines will jump out to big first half lead and coast in the second half. Call it 31-10.

BG, 5dimes has'nt posted any totals yet, where
do you get your totals? I may have to change
books since they were always late in posting
lines last year.

So. Cal
what are units? sorry, I am new....

A can be a fixed amount like a few guys in here have 1 unit = 10 bucks or something like that

But more often than not, a unit is 1% of your bankroll

It is an effective way of not losing your whole stack on a game, a good money management system

Northwestern -3.5 over Miami(OH): Going with experience here. NW has a great offensive line returning along with the tailback Sutton. Defensive line and linebackers are a huge concern for the Hawks. Road chalk is not usually a recipe for success, but Wildkittens are 6-3 ATS in their last 9 games as road favorites. (Of course that probably covers a span of about 50 years.) I'll take NW by a TD.

good luck BG. i love the Northwestern play. I am on them also. I think Sutton runs all over Miami OH I dont like laying the road chalk but i think Northwestern comes out firing on offense. Defense a little questionable but along with you i can see them winning by a TD

Division I-AA

Division I-AA

It's a little early to be capping these type of games because of all the transfers but two lines jumped out at me right away:

Dayton -20 over Robert Morris: Dayton returns its entire defensive unit that was ranked 9th in the nation last year. Five starters return on offense. They were picked to finish second in their conference behind San Diego. Robert Morris is very young and not very good. They were picked last in their conference. This is a clear mismatch between two programs on opposite ends of the spectrum. Laying two units in what should be a big opening day win for the Flyers.

Furman -16.5 over Jacksonville St.: The loss of QB Ingle (sp?) is probably what is keeping this line so low. But Furman has a great fullback and tailback along with a solid QB. This year, the defense will be much stronger and that will be the difference in this game. Jacksonville St. is going to very young and inexperienced. Here is a quote from their coach: ?It?s apparent to me that there is going to be 12 to 15 guys that have never played in a college football game before and a handful that wasn?t even with us in spring training," added Crowe. ?For some of these guys, it?s just been a whirlwind.? That doesn't sound promising for a team that will be facing a Top 10 Division I-AA team. Lay the chalk.

Write ups:

Write ups:

As expected the Indiana line is up to -6. I like what Hoeppner is trying to build at IU but they will always struggle against the big boys. Fortunately, WMU is not a big boy. The are not very good defensively and not a lot better on offense. Indiana knows there are only so many wins on their schedule and this is one of them. I don't see the Broncos keeping this one within the 4 point spread.

Penn St. is not going to be a strong as last year and I think the Zips will be pretty good. With the Nittany Lions trying to find their offensively early on and Akron's experience returning, I'll take Spang's boys and 17 points.

With all due respect to Box, I can't resist taking North Texas +41 over the Horns. Texas has the big game next week and will spend this week preparing for the Buckeyes. Replacing Vince Young will not be an easy task and NT will try to slow the game down. Expect the Texas AYO's to play alot in the second half giving North Texas a great opportunity for the backdoor cover.

Haven't looked at either game very closely but would hesitate laying chalk with any Wannestadt coached team. There seems to be a lot of different opinions on Cal/Tenn. I just think there are better games on the board to play.

MTSU -9 over FIU: Fading the steam as the line has dropped from 11.5. MTSU has been a disappointment in the Sun Belt over the past couple of years with their underachievement. But, they are still very talented (by Sun Belt standards). FIU is still trying to establish a program and Don Strock may not be the answer. I think MTSU gets a leg up on the Sun Belt with an early win in conference play.
