Let me think about this for a minute.

UAB always and I mean always plays Georgia tough games.

UAB plays #5 Oklahoma and loses in a close game.

We got Herschel Stafford the rookie QB starting his first game at home at Sanford Stadium with all the fans expecting big things from him in front of the home crowd. Talk about pressure to perform.

Herschel may surprise me and cover this spread but I think at this stage of his career it is asking way too much.

Go you Herschel ! Go you Herschel !

I mean , don't go you Herschel ...

Awwww you know what I mean

NORMAN, Okla. ---- Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson ran for 139 yards and scored twice in the second half, helping No. 5 Oklahoma hold off visiting UAB's upset bid Saturday night in Norman, Okla. The Blazers, opening their season for the second straight year against a top 10 team, got 149 yards through the air and 65 more on the ground from QB Sam Hunt in his UAB debut.

"I wouldn't say we escaped," Peterson said. "We came out and we fought."

The 2004 Heisman runner-up later atoned for a fumble on his eighth consecutive rush by taking a screen pass from Thompson 69 yards down the right sideline for a score that gave Oklahoma the lead for good at 21-17.

Thompson finished with 227 yards on 14-for-24 passing with two interceptions and two touchdowns.

UAB pulled starting quarterback Chris Williams - who nearly led the Blazers to an upset at No. 4 Georgia in a 16-13 loss in 2003 - after two series without a first down, and junior Sam Hunt proved to be an effective replacement.

He led a 15-play, 80-yard scoring drive that Corey White capped with a 5-yard TD run. White later added a touchdown on a 24-yard screen pass from Hunt, and the Blazers led 17-14 after Peterson's fumble set up a 32-yard field goal by Waters.

Hunt completed 9 of 15 passes for 149 yards and also had 65 yards rushing.
...........................................................

UAB is not going to lay down.

+17.5 points

That means the Bulldogs have to win by two touchdowns, a field goal, and the +.5

Athens ? First things first: Don't expect a national title from Matthew Stafford.

Not this year, anyway. Not as a true freshman playing at college football's highest level, where youth surfaces and inexperience is exploited.

"I coached against Danny Wuerffel when he was a true freshman," former Auburn coach Terry Bowden said of Florida's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback. "He had about two or three interceptions and we won. Even when the best of the best are freshmen, they are just that ? freshmen.

"They are good for one or two losses a year just because they are freshmen."
________________________________

That was a lesson Texas' Mack Brown and his first-time starter, redshirt freshman Colt McCoy, learned in Saturday's loss to Ohio State.

"It's a lot more complicated because you see more disguises on defense," Brown said Monday.

Things are made to look one way, then turn out to be another. Take, for instance, a play in the second half Saturday.

"Colt McCoy drops back and there is a perfect square end coming across the middle," Bowden said. "The QB leads him perfectly but doesn't see the middle linebacker drop directly back in front of the wide receiver."

Have you ever gone back in that huddle and said, give me the ball, I want it?

No, I never really ask, because I hope that the quarterback knows that I want the ball. I think he can look in my eyes and see that I want the ball. I'm not being selfish, but I want to play. If the clock is winding out and we are behind, then I want the ball. I think he can look in my eyes and say, "Hey, Herschel wants the ball. Let me see if I can get it to him." And you know, all of them want the ball. If you are a professional, you want the ball. That's the type of team I want to be with. I want to be with guys that're not afraid to take that last shot. You have a lot of guys that are afraid to lose. But if you are afraid to lose, you never going to win. / Herschel Walker
...........................................................

Can Stafford have the same impact on Georgia football as Walker did ? Only time will answer that one.

Being a Georgia Alum, this is hilarious. He is getting so much hype in Athens it is not even funny.

And I saw the likes of Hines Ward and Champ Bailey not getting this kind of hype........

Stafford may have an easier time covering the spread than you think after he eats UAB's entire football team.
...............................................

I wonder if LSU is thinking about eating some lunch meat this Saturday. Somebodys NC hopes
will go down the drain.

thanks , thats good information. It has a nice ring to it.

Total Points Average Scored

UAB 17.0 / 92nd

UGA 32.0 / 35th

..............................................

Lets see..... I add +17.5 to 17 UAB average =34.5

Then Georgia scores their average = 32.

Its the famous law of averages.

BINGO !

UAB senior quarterback Chris Williams knows it?s possible.

He had his first college start in place of injured Darrell Hackney against Georgia in 2003, a game in which the 29-point underdogs hung with the Bulldogs. Georgia needed a 31-yard Billy Bennett field goal with 12:47 to play to pull out a 16-13 victory.
UAB (1-1) pushed another bigwig in its season opener Sept. 2, losing at Oklahoma 21-14, and lost 17-10 last season at Tennessee.

?It gives us a lot confidence knowing that we can play with them, but we want a chance to try and beat one of them,? said Williams, who came off the bench to complete 12 of 16 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns in a 17-15 victory over East Carolina on Saturday. ?We play close with every big team we?ve played, but we haven?t beaten them. That?s our goal.?
................................................

Beat one of the big dogs, what a goal !

Its in the bag.

When this game is over, I will meet you on
444 Glory Rd, It runs off 777 Victory Lane,
and that is where I live.

Line is now UAB +17 , moving with me
as usual

NORMAN, Okla. -- UAB Defensive end Larry McSwain, the Conference USA preseason defensive player of the year, was suspended for Saturday's game at No. 10 Oklahoma for a violation of team rules.

UAB said in a statement that McSwain, the team's sack leader last season, did not make the trip from Alabama to Norman.

McSwain had 13 sacks in 2004 and four last season.
........................................................

This guy is back now to play the Bulldogs.

McSwain is pissed about missing the
Oklahoma game , and says he will
take it out on anyone named Herschel he sees across the line.

Uh oh !

"It was fourth-and-11 on our first drive and we decided to go for it," said Wuerffel, who won the Heisman Trophy that year. "There was such an intensity of the moment. At the time, it was the biggest crowd ever and it was being called the 'game of the century,' and there on fourth-and-11, I get this overwhelming sense of peace, a spiritual calm in the midst of the craziness. We get a long touchdown and go on to win the game
[35-29]."
.........................................................

I believe Wuerffel , who was a great college QB, was a senior when he got that overwhelming
sense of peace in a game.

I do not think that Herschel Stafford is
going to feel any peace come Saturday
at 1 pm against UAB.

Line drops to 16.5 as the sharp money pours
in on UAB.

hey Juu - gl this weekend.

Spurrier: Dogs should've been flagged more

Published on: 09/14/06

Columbia, S.C. ? An 18-0 loss to Georgia apparently wasn't enough to convince South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier that the Bulldogs are that much better than his Gamecocks.

Thursday night, Spurrier said officials told him Georgia got away with several penalties in the Bulldogs' victory last Saturday.

"I heard our fans booing a lot the other night and later in the week I learned that Georgia should've been called for about 12, 13 clips or holds during that game that wasn't called," Spurrier said on his weekly radio call-in show.

"I'm not berating the officials, but we learned later the head of officials said, 'Hey, those should've been called," Spurrier continued.

Spurrier said as long as teams can get away with penalties, "you might as well do it."

"If it's OK to hold, we need to start teaching it or we're at a disadvantage," Spurrier said. "We got to find out how the refs are going to call games. If they don't call holding, then we've got to hold, too."
...................................................

The old ball coach has spoken. I guarantee you that the Bulldogs will be flagged more for holding than they would have been in the UAB game.

Thanks Steve.:mj05:
