Spent yesterday afternoon rockin' and rollin' with the Twins winning the division - a truly special event, the way it unfolded. I bought playoff tickets a couple weeks ago, looking forward to whatever could happen, hoping for a really fun night or two of playoff action, homer hankies, expensive beers, etc. And then, they grab the division, getting at least the first two games at home...and I can't wait for what the Dome will be like with Santana on the hill, happy hour before, going crazy.

Then we find out that BOTH the first two playoff games are AT FRICKING NOON on Tuesday and Wednesday. BOTH games!!! Not surprising, both Yankee fricking games are at night, all three other games are afternoon games, but the other two are later in the day.

I know why it is done, but it just sucks. I think I will be able to make both games, but many people can't. It sure will make the rest of my work week awful, and the noon start sure takes the wind out of any real kind of fun. And for Oakland? That's a 10:00 am game, essentially for them, twice? How fair is that?

Why can't they at least have one of the two games - especially tomorrow's game with Santana pitching against Zito - go off later in the day and move up the Cards and Padres, at least?!? Just one of them?

Sorry, just had to vent. The Twins will have the Cy Young award winner going, the batting champion going, possibly the MVP in Morneau going (Jeter probably will get it, and that is cool, too) and they rate the Padres/Cards game as being more important? The Twins have become a good national story this year, I think. Not a better story than the collapsing Cardinals (who I am also a fan of, by the way) and the Padres with little national name recognition? I dunno, I'm just frustrated. Such is life in "Fly-Over" country.

How can Gardy not be considered for manager of the year. Everyone has already conceded it to Leyland, but I think they should reconsider after the collapse of the Tigers!!

Absolutely agree with you.

I'm from Brainerd and go to school here in Kansas... and I definately wont be able to watch the Tuesday game because of classes... and the Wednesday one I'll get to see only by cutting one of my classes...

Stupid shit. Oh well... I'll be wearing my Hunter jersey around campus tomorrow... :scared

P.S.:

HAVE FUN AT THE GAMES! I know the start time sucks... but I would give an arm and a leg to be at the Dome tomorrow...

We had playoff tickets the year they went to the ALCS.. I think it was 2002... Some of the funnest times of my life.

That place gets rockin' when the games mean something...

Wave your Homer Hanky proudly.

They don't rate the Padres game higher. They just can't start a game in San Diego at 10 am local time. That would make zero sense.

Not sure there is a solution. It does suck to Twins people. Also agree Yanks shouldn't get both primetime games, but did you really think it would be any other way?

good point, but still sucks when Minny ain't playing those kind of games in the afternoon like the CUBS do...and then all of a suddent the fans r asked to make it out to afternoon games for the playoffs...??

not fair at all.

that's not consistent....but then again, when you're going up against the YANKS on prime time, you're gonna lose and be downgraded.

The Cubs are a Tourist attraction..not a baseball team...big difference between drawing powers

Travelers schedule their vacations and holidays to go to Wrigley Field..
Conversely very few of the above veer left to visit the home of "The Twins."

If attendance was based on performance Wrigley Field would be a figment of somebodys imagination.

Did you guys forget we have a 3 hour time difference to the east coast? We are in the same situation as Minnesota, playing an afternoon playoff game when we play all our games at night and nobody in SD is complaining. I guess we are just happy to be in it.

yep

its television....they think everybody is drawn to the yankees.....ironic that the lowest rated ws in a while was the yankees-mets

:mj07:

as for the cubs......tourist attraction or not, the season ticket sales for the cubs blows away other teams that play night games all year long

So right u are.

I actually love afternoon games more than night games, now with new ballpark, it is great to hit the gaslamp at around 5 or 6. instead of 10 or 11at night and then have to go to work next day. i love it.

even the royals/cardinals, two small market teams in '85, consistently pulled great numbers.

obviously, there are a lot of reaons for the decline in viewership and it would actually make for a great case study.

but, yeah -- it definitely is a sad state of affairs
