A young teenage girl was about to finish her first year of college. She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat but her father was a rather staunch Republican.
One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to taxes and welfare programs. He stopped her and asked her how she was doing in school.
She answered that she had a 40 GPA but it was really tough. She had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party. She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying.
He asked, "How is your friend Mary." She replied that Mary was barely getting by. She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied, but was very popular on campus, went to all the parties all the time. Why she often didn't show up for classes because she was hung over.
Dad then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's office and ask why she couldn't take 1.0 off her 4.0 and give it to her friend who only had a 2.0. That way they would both have a 3.0 GPA.
The daughter angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair, I worked really hard for mine and Mary has done nothing".
The father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party".

As a registered Republican that's a nice story, it's also a simplistic way of looking at both parties, to bad it does not hold true for today's Republican party that has taxed and spent with the best the Democrats have ever offered up. Today's Republican party has joined hand and hand with their buddies on the left . Toady's Republicans in the House and the Senate, take from the working class and share it with their brothers on the left. Together, they have become one of the biggest welfare programs this Country has ever seen. Like I said, nice story, to bad it no longer applies. My Republican Congressman Jim Walsh ,said the other day, " We have the best health care system in the world." He is right about the members of the House and the Senate, but he was wrong about most of the American people that they take hard earned money away from to pay their way.

No need to raise the GPA of that drunken 2.0 student. As long as she's got the right connections, she'll be president someday anyway.

"Welcome to the Republican party".

Nice Bracelet Big Boy :)

Bryanz "the republican party has taxed?????
Then why have you all been bitching for 5 years about tax cuts????

Hmm Is it the working class you all figure will have probs with ID's for voting--who wants to let felons vote?

Is there really anyone that is sane that would argue the Dem party is not for transer of wealth-seriously!

Heres an oldie Ctown but one of my favs--

Suppose that every day, ten people go out for dinner and the bill for all ten comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes [based on US tax rates 2005], it would go something like this:

The first four people (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1 i.e. 1%
The sixth would pay $3 i.e. 3%
The seventh would pay $7 i.e. 7%
The eighth would pay $12 i.e. 12%
The ninth would pay $18 i.e. 18%
The tenth person (the richest) would pay $59 i.e. 59%

So, that?s what they decided to do.

The ten people ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.

?Since you are all such good customers,? he said, ?I?m going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20.? Dinner for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four people were unaffected. They would still eat for free.
But what about the other six people - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ?fair share??

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody?s share, then the fifth person and the sixth person would each end up being paid to eat their meal.

So, the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each person?s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth person, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings)
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings)
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28% savings)
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings)
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings)
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings)

Each of the six was BETTER OFF than before. And the FIRST FOUR CONTINUED TO EAT FOR FREE. But once outside the restaurant, they began to compare their savings.

?I only got a dollar out of the $20,? declared the sixth person. He pointed to the tenth person,? but he got $10!?
?Yeah, that?s right,? exclaimed the fifth person. ?I only saved a dollar, too. It?s unfair that he got ten times more than me!?

?That?s true!!? shouted the seventh person. ?Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!?

?Wait a minute,? yelled the first four people in unison. ?We didn?t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!?
The nine surrounded the tenth person and beat him up.

The next night the tenth guy (the one who was beaten up) didn?t show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him.

But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn?t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction.

Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start eating overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Dogs that Bark,

great write up, but i think that u forgot the part that the first four people that eat for free,

well they work for the tenth person, the richest,
he expolits them to do all the real work in society, while he sits back and takes in the rewards.

So for them to get a free meal, and him to pay half of it. i think that he is still getiing over on the entire deal.

let him pick up the entire tab, or simply pay better wages, because how much is enough?

i think you forgot that the first four people who get it for free LIVE IN AMERICA and HAVE FREEDOM to do ANYTHING THEY WANT

if they wish, they can WORK HARD and become wealthy

anyone can apply themselves and work hard to make something of themselves if they are SELF RELIANT

however, once one becomes wealthy, or is in the process of obtaining wealth, you leftists want the government to keep a guy down so that he has to continuously FEED OFF THE GOVERNMENT BEGGING FOR ANOTHER HANDOUT

you leftists want everyone to be a victim and not a victor

you leftists would rather have everyone hooked up to a government feeding tube feeding their sloth, alcoholism, and tobacco habits instead of applying themselves so that they can become healthy, productive indviduals

it is CRIMINAL what welfare has done to the poor in this country

Conservatives believe EVERYONE should have the right to work hard, be self reliant, and earn a profit and that mental health will ensue once one starts working and being productive taking a little pride in their life/work

Doc you forgot the part about it being criminal some of the rewards folks get for working for certain companies. Even some with 4 and 6 year degrees. I see Wall Mart just got nail again for second time this year. Seems they don't believe in fair wages and overtime pay. Looks like around 124000 workers got lots of back pay coming. God it must feel like food being taken right out Sam's kids mouth. Maybe they will now only be worth 40 billion. Down 1 or 2 million, what a killer.

I think anyone can finger any corp and have complaints--
-
--Lets take Walmart for example since it is one of liberals fav whipping boys.

Probably one one the biggest success stories ever---Parking lot always full of shoppers--every store has abundance of applications for work--and 1.4 million employees.

So what do you think the ratio of complaints to satisfied customers/workers are.

If wages are not high enough for employees then why are there so many applications/employees??

Nice to always have someone to determine whats good for everyone else.

I never saw a hard working republican in my whole life. I saw many who steal (like Cheney)and a lot who come from their parents (like Bush)money (old Money) but a hard working one give me a break. The only ones i can even consider that work hard are the ones who make thirty to fifty thousand a year and are completely duped that they are Republicans. Their hard work gets nullified by their stupidity.

Let me guess you are one of those thirty thousand dollar a year Republican?
Okay im sorry some Republicans work hard but for them to think they are the party of hard-workers it is as comical as calling themselves conservative. Maybe your right a lot of lobbyist are Republicans but do they work hard with the other republicans to constantly screw American workers? Most Republicans in politics are dirtbags who are thieves and anti American. You don't give oil companies tax breaks while they are shafting us in the process. You don't set up a medicare farce of a bill to help billion dollar pharmaceuticals and once again screw the American people. Have the Republicans ever come up with a bill that actually helped the American worker. That shame of a trade deal called Cafta was another sample of how Republicans screw the American worker. These are scummy shady people you have aligned yourself with. Read up you will find out much more than the few incidents i have given you.

It's interesting how people end up with different life experiences. 'The Sponge', in all of his 15 years on earth, has not seen 1 hard working Republican, ever!

All the while, I have 'seen' 4 very hard-working Republicans just in my own immediate family.

Weird.
