My favorite churchy word back then was "anoint(ing)", and for some reason we always sang about "Emanuel", but never talked about him. I guess Emanuel was another (Jewsish I think) word for Jesus. Sounded great in song, but not so effective in a sermon. ...Great frickin movies though! There was always a great Euro girl-girl scene in those flicks.

I never knew that Emmanuel was another word for 'Jesus.'

I guess if popes can call themselves whatever random name they come up with, then so can Jesus.

I don't really like the word 'annoint.' Reminds me too much of the word 'ointment', which conjurs up images of rashes and blisters and genital warts.

What movies are you talking about, with the lesbo scenes?

I had the same issues with "annoint". Never really trusted words that weren't found out in the real world.

Never saw the Emmanuelle movies??!! Oh man, you have some catching up to do...

"A quick search of IMDB lists about 50 movies with "Emmanuelle" in the title, with another 30 movies having "Emanuelle". Most of these films are retitled movies that are trying to take advantage of the popular title characters. Viewers are hoping to see Sylvia Kristel or Laura Gemser in a some situation where the angle is different or the screen partner is different. The Cinemax pay cable channel and small video labels of the 1980's seemed to feed this product that customers demanded."

Nice site, looks promising. I will look into this further.

Yeah, it really *is* sheer pompousity when somebody 'annoints' something or somebody else. I mean, who the f*ck are YOU to be annointing anything. Annoint THIS, pal!

I think it's none of my business. I'm sure that Haggard believes that homosexual acts are wrong, but he seems to have a vice of doing meth with gay prostitutes.

Though I would like to think my vices (gambling, etc.) are less "wrong" than doing meth before having sex with gay male prostitutes, the fact is that we all have vices. I don't think anyone would want their own personal vices to be laid bare before the general public in this manner.

To your last statement about personal beliefs and public policy not diverting if the policy is strong, that's ridiculous. If that were true then the cinema, literary, theater and any other storytelling industry would have not existed through all of human history. It is basic human nature that people's principled beliefs will run contrary to their animal cravings at some point. It's foolhardy to think otherwise.

Nick, I agree 1000000% , it's none of my business that he or any leader is gay or who they have sex with. I'm not saying his acts are right or wrong. All I'm saying is , I rather have a politician or someone in the position of influencing policy, be straight with the public. My point is : you can't be of sound mind when you are pretending to be someone your not. It's that simple, no judgments, there is a place in public policy for all races, religions, sexes, and sexual orientations. Just be honest about who you are. What's wrong about be honest about who you are ? I'm not talking about cinema and theater, I'm taking about real life, education, war, jobs and family. Some peoples animal cravings may run contrary to their believes but were talking about a religious leader having sex with someone other than his wife, with a man while doing drugs. I don't want this kind of person making policy . I give most human beings more credit than you do. We are not dogs and cats. If this was a married religious leader having sex and doing drugs with a women escort, I would feel the same way.

Be prepared for horrible piano music, grainy filming, and stunning women with perhaps a lil' too much bush. ...But I cannot hold the styles of the day against them.

No problem. Going hunting in the bush is not an issue and is not visually unappealing to me. Don't forget I was in Korea for 18 months.

You are an American hero who does not get enough accolades. ...That's another cool word - "accolade".

You know what? That IS a cool word! Well done.

They really need to name a car after that word. It would sound better than Annoint, anyway.

Ford Accolade
Nissan Annoint
Acura Emmannuelle
...no, Fiat Emmanuelle works much better

With the Escalade, Cadillac uses the Latin/Greek word for Accolade. They think they're cute, but they're just frontin'.

I had no idea. Yes, frontin' big time.

What's Latin/Greek for 'Hummer'?

No response to my testimonials? I sensed some doubt from you in my sincerety before. Are you still skeptical? Any faith in the honesty of my experiences? Or is my witnessing as disingenious as my outrage over Haggard's meth dealing?

oh, heck no skepticism! I could tell you had some good stories to tell, good experiences to relate. Wanted to hear them.

I grew up in a rather non-religious surrounding and ain't familiar with lotta this. Mainly academically.

Immanuel is Hebrew name meaning "God (is) with us".

"anointed" comes from Greek word "Christos", which is their version of the Hebrew "Messias"--who were fellows anointed with important positions. In the Greek bible you see (mainly early on) "Christ" referred to as "the Christ"

Anointing with oil part of important rituals with these fellows.

it is a cognate of Greek term Chrism, which, if you read Euripides or Plato and such, it can really mean covering with perfumed oil. So that always reminded me of not treating warts but lesbo sex scenes!

Do they make a hybrid version of that?

I'm waiting for the plug-in hybrid version!

lotta good Greek/Biblical words for cars or bands.

"Therion"--the wild beast of Apocalypse

"Skotia"--darkness

"Theos"--God

"fainei"---shines

"gegonen"---created

"pornea"----fornication

"sozo"---save

"axios"---worthy

"eschatos"---last

edit--opps! can't forget "charagma"---the mark of the beast.

very clever the way you put last last. you ready to get into the car-making industry with me? they will all be made in china - but the friggin names alone will make up for quality.

since it's china, i think we only need about 10 grand or so to get this business going.

tha'd git it started, but big money would be bringing it to US and sell for $5K, avoid Yugo name but then gotta deal wit dang gummit crazy eviron regs, esp crazy in CA nut state, would make it all very expensive. Dang gummit!

real meaning of names don't mean much, fortunately. I remeber the Toyota Cressida and how humanities majors wondered why smart Japanese Co. would name car after an inconstant and arguably treacherous broad. Like that makes any difference. Co was smart.
